I was reading the discussion when I was at work this afternoon about Seamus and Silas, and whether there are similarities. I think the general feeling was that Seamus is worse somehow, even though he isn't a serial killer, and I'd agree with that. I think the main thing for me that makes Seamus more frightening is his cruelty. Silas taunted Lynsey horribly, and it was sinister but there was a kind of camp, larger than life game-playing to it. With the murders we saw, he deliberately terrified his victims when they were helpless, especially Bex, but he was clearly mentally ill and his behaviour was beyond his control to some extent.
Seamus is playing games too, he's toying with Brendan, but there's nothing theatrical about it. He knows that he's under Brendan's skin, he's created the fear and shame in Brendan since he was a little boy, and he knows exactly how to trigger the responses that he wants. It looks like total contempt and a sadistic enjoyment of torturing him. It's sickening to watch.
This post is OT, but I wasn't here when it was on topic.
