Clothing Allowance
One thing I found very noticeable in the just finished series of Junior Apprentice was that they seemed to be wearing the same clothes week in, week out. Maria always wore a dark blue dress in the boardroom with a lighter blue patterned scarf, whilst Ashleigh wore the same dark blue and green checked dress. Most of the boys wore the same navy or grey suit apart from Patrick in his royal blue sequin collared jacket.
I wondered if the contestants were given a clothing allowance, and if so, that it should probably be increased. There are few things more embarrassing than having such a limited wardrobe. |

They have to wear the same clothes to the boardroom each week because the walks to the AMS Rolls Royce (or taxi in the adult series) are pre-filmed, and because for some reason they want to give the impression the boardrooms are all on the same day when often they run over two days.
Neither reason seems a spectacularly good one but rules are rules (and might even be included in the licencing agreement for the programme from its original, American producers). |

Anyone else know how the editing works ? In the segment when Lord Sugar was talking to them at the house, 3 of the contestants had shoes that appeared on, then off, then on again without them looking like they had moved, and it only lasted 60 seconds. Clearly the continuity person didn't do their job.

Since Young Apprentice Series 2, they have consistently done this. Its really noticable, e.g. Zara's white dress last year, Jade's black boardroom dress in Series 8, along with Jane's bright red dress and Gabrielle's white shirt and this series, as you say, Patrick always wears that blue sequined jacket, whilst Ashleigh always wears that black dress and Lucy always wore a white one. Its been a recent theme.

I don't know why they do this actually. I know the walks to the taxi/Rolls-Royce are filmed in advance, but most of the time, the candidates wear long coats so people don't notice the clothing difference.

I think it's most likely so they can edit in shots from different boardrooms

There actually is a funny goof in Series 1... in the episode when Adele walks out, she has her hair up in the boardroom. Then when she walks out of Brentwood her hair is down. Then, in the taxi interview, her hair is back up again! |

Since the BBC does owe a duty of care to the candidates, it would, on reflection, be as well to provide clothes for them. The boys in particular tend to turn up in new suits and shirts that are a couple of sizes too big, whereas girls choose for the boardroom clothes which are comfortable and familiar but which are perhaps a little tight and even grubby by the end of the process.

The guys always look smart... The girls... Well the state most of them turn up in to the boardroom, I wouldn't employ them.
