The Show has too much negativity to it
The promos are so negative. Like for example the audition commercials. and the publicity!

Everything about the X Factor seems very negative and has been for a while - artists flopping, ratings slipping, disastrous performances (Tulisa, LeAnn Rimes), poor finalists ...
If there isn't a turnaround by next year - and I suspect things will get worse - then next year will be the last. If only ITV could find a show to replace it. |

Or perhaps they could rival SCD with a show which randomly selects unkown members of the public who want to be in a dance competition...

They need to lighten it so that it becomes likeable.
Watching the Strictly Final tonight was almost life enhancing. There was so much hatred (esp. on DS) towards one finalist, who was admittedly a JOKE. But Strictly was all about journeys and abilities. It's a positive and joyful experience. X Factor is the opposite and when it's all over I think, "never again". |

I do feel a lot of this true. Tried to watch a bit of strictly tonight something I don't usually watch but couldn't. That is too much the other way is too postive and far too cheesy. The ideal for x factor is somewhere in the middle

I agree, it's the reason I don't enjoy it as much nowadays. The studio audience being allowed to boo contestants is an absolute low.
I'll stick with The Voice until the current tone of TXF changes. |

But the very first show I ever watched was the one in which Sharon publicly humiliated Steve Brookstein. That made me extremely uncomfortable too. |

I'll stick with The Voice until the current tone of TXF changes. The US version is better (except for Xtina, who lost her acts faster than Demi on XFUSA lol), but the format itself doesn't wow me. It's like a festival of indie artists whose song covers you enjoy but whose albums you won't buy (this year's winner might prove to be a breakthrough, but the previous two fared worse than the Idol and X-Factor counterparts... I think). |

I agree with the OP. I watched a bit of Strictly tonight and it was a world away from the X-Factor in terms of putting out a positive atmosphere rather than a negative one. I'm not surprised Strictly beat it in the ratings this year.
What I really, really hate about the XF is the way people are encouraged by the producers to slag off their "regular" lives and to treat what is reality for most people as something to look down on. It's in such bad taste and I despair at the message it is sending to the younger and the easily influenced people out there. The overall tone is also as fake and mean-spirited as they come - proven by things like Matt vs James and the show changing or removing rules as it suits them. The overall message put out by the XF is utterly poisonous to society and I barely watched the XF this year because I get too wound up by it all. I'm really hoping these reality shows will one day become unpopular and start to fall by the wayside. Far from being inspiring, I'd suggest they actually damage a fair portion of their audience by manipulating them into believing all the crap they peddle. I've really got sick of it all. |
