Three launch new Sim Only 'One Plan' (kind of)

I just noticed Three have a 12 month version of their One Plan now on the website.

2000 Mins
5000 Texts
2GB Data (inc Tethering)
£20pm for 12 months

This is compared to the Original One Plan which gives you 5000 3-3 mins extra as well as actual unlimited data for £25pm on a one month rolling basis. (this £25pm plan is still available)

This brings it inline with O2 and Vodafone who offer Unl Calls/Texts & 1GB data for £20pm but T-Mobile still do a much better deal with Unl Calls/Texts/Data for £21pm.

Nothing revolutionary. Just bringing it inline with everyone else. What i find dissapointing is that you only get 2GB. Sure it's double what O2/Voda give you but T-Mobile do unlimited. (without tethering though). I don't see why Three couldn't price match T-Mobile with the original One plan on a 12 month sim only.

You still get the 5000 3-3 minutes. its just a cheaper version for people who do not want a lot of data by the looks of it.

I can't see the 3-3 mins anywhere on the site? Or am I just being stupid and its in the most obvious place?

I guess its a good deal but t-mobile are doing a better one. Plus the fact that they can do unl data for £12pm really does make me question why there is only 2gb data on the 12month one plan

Isn't the T-Mobile one you mention 'officially' a "special offer" discounted from £31 a month?

Anyway, considering the One Plan is still around I'd be surprised if this new one was taken up to any great degree, by data users anyway, as the 2GB is not generous. As for the 12 month element - hmmm.

Was told recently by someone that 3 are going to begin removing AYCE data from their tariffs but I discounted it as rumour.

Maybe I was wrong to as this does look like it might be the beginning of the end for AYCE

3 usually always have a limited data deal at a couple of pounds less than their unlimited offering. They have specific price points that they seem to want to achieve.

They have been stating recently that they might not continue unlimited data when they launch their 4G service but I suspect market forces might force them to continue with it unless there are technical reasons for not doing so. Perhaps they may attract too many who might use their service as a substitute for wired broadband which it is not designed to compete with.

I expect 3 to continue to offer unlimited mobile broadband to fuel customer acquisition for as long as it's technically possible.

I agree, its touch and go as to whether three do a unlimited 4g plan. But they would be committing suicide by stoppid unl data on 3g. Its the reason they're growing and the main reason a lot of people use them. So I think they will keep it there to fuel customer acquisition and retain customers.

If Three did remove unl data I'd sign up with t-mobile before you can say Everything Everywhere.

I'd be worried if they did do away with their unlimited packages as i make use of the service during the summer months when at my static caravan which doesn't have a Landline service available due to the location. I'm not too fussed about 4g yet as i get 10-12meg with Three on my Nexus 4 anyway.

It's not a very attractive offer either as it's a 12 month lock in versus the proper One Plan with AYCE data which is a 30-day rolling contract.

They are almost certainly not going to do unlimited 4G as it would cost them far too much.

Hmmm, i wouldn't see them doing it on every plan like they do at the moment for 3G phones but i could see them bring in a "One Plan" type plan with unlimited data at the highest end price range.

Si is O2 and vodafone, discounted from £26pm. The thing is that it's been going on as a "special Offer" for ages now. Usually a special offer is for a short period but i don't see them increasing prices back up to the standard price until one company does it. And with Three introducing this "standard Price" £20pm deal i don't see any company raising the price back to £26/£31pm.
