picture centering/position
when i have RGB inputs through the TV (sky/ps2 etc) the picture is too far left and some of the picture is cut off leaving a black line at the right hand side, will there be an easy way to adjust the position ? (my old tv had an adjustment knob at the back for that)
most games on the ps2 have an option to adjust the screen position in the game, but there is no option like that i can see on sky any ideas ? thanks |

What you are seeing is RGB shift and is extremely common. You can make adjustments to the picture settings using the remote control via the service menu. Exactly how you access the service menu varies from TV to TV and whether you can adjust RGB shift explicitly (or just generally nmove the picture to the right) also depends upon the model of TV.

I think this is the same model as the Thorn ICC5 IMC. You can buy a service manual here http://www.donberg.ie/descript/t/th59m5x.htm that will probably tell you how to adjust this. I did a quick search on Google and couldn't find a free online manual.

if it's an ICC5 chassis then it has a row of little adjustments on the rear (all in row along the bottom of the back case) - lots of little holes and behind these are small 'pots' to adjust.
Be warned that the pots alter various things and you have to look at the little picture printed into the plastic to see what each control does. Also be warned that these TV's are very old now and often when you adjust the controls, they start to misbehave and then jump about a bit (usually when you alter the height control, the darned thing gets all unstable and the image jumps up and down) - this is because the control pots haven't been touched for 15 years and are full of dust, when you alter them they don't like it. Another thing about RGB centreing.. is that many TV's (a great deal in fact) only have one width adjustment, so if you alter the RGB image to be nice and central you then find non RGB images are no longer central. |

Yeah better safe than sorry..
I didn't mean to be alarming, but it's sods law that if you tinkered now, the screwdriver would slip and touch something inside that it shouldn't and the tv would explode and the cat would be sick on the carpet, no doubt the christmas tree would catch alight ... it's just not worth the bother at this time if year.... OK, so maybe that lot wouldn't all happen, but it did to me one Christmas eve while I fiddled with the TV. |
