Kara won because of the romance story with Artem and the fact that Matt was getting low marks and slated by the judges. If he had been praised Matt would have won.
If Matt had done a decent showdance he would have won. Kara made such a complete mess of hers that the title was there for the taking. He, or rather Aliona because she choreographed it, completely blew it in the final.

Of course they are doomed, most people who vote are girls aged 12-25 and they are more likely to vote for who they fancy as well as voting many times, I'm convinced if one one vote was counted for each phone number then the result would be entirely different. Imagine voting in a General Election by phone - obviously all the rich people will have their phone on speed dial for the tory party and it would be a landslide, but it would not reflect the true public vote in the same way.
My 19 year old niece and her her uni friends equal numbers were males voted for Louis on basis of his skills, danciability, personality and hard work. When I told her about this post she laughed at such backward attitudes . What an insult to women and young women ?

You will be surprised at the number of young males who watch SCD. You only have to look at the number of judges, three males to one female. How many professional males dancers are there? My son and nephews voted for Louis and they are males. Gone are the days when only women voted on reality shows like SCD.

I agree Louis would have won whatever, Kimberley being flawlessly perfect and nailing every dance, which she sadly didnt was the only way he would have lost imo, however tonight he really stepped up his game, and if we take Denise entirely out of the equation, of the 2 contenders he was better on the night. Accross the whole series it should have been a Denise or Kimberley win by rights, however you can't really argue with that showdance or that samba, he stepped his game up quite a lot tonight with crowd pleasing, flashy dances danced very well and Kimberley couldn't compete with that. He's a very talented man and seems a nice enough person, and although I was Team Kimberley, I'm happy for Louis that he won.

Louis's show dance was magical, Flavia and him really worked hard and the hard work paid off on the night.

From the judges (3 men and 1 woman)
Len Goodman said: "If this show goes on for another 20 years I don't think we'll ever see a showdance that was as magical as that."

Smith received praise from all four judges, with Bruno Tonioli saying he had the "strength of a superhuman" while Craig Revel Horwood described it as "fabulous and amazing".

Mmmm. So that's where the student loans go ....

Votes should be one per Licence Fee.

They have to pay them back. Most students subside their loans by working part time. Its much harder for them than it was for me and my other half.

Nope. One does not have to be a parent to fund the BBC via The Licence Fee.

'These shows'? Might I just point out one teensy-weensy thing that makes Strictly a bit different from X Factor and other shows of that ilk? You and the OP don't appear to have noticed that it is a show for couples (or cooples, as Tess would have it). If, as you claim, straight women vote with their ovaries, they are as likely to vote for Artem's chesticles as Louis's.
I'm well aware of that, and while this is no doubt a contributory factor to the ratio being more even, the focus is generally not on the pro partners, but the celebrities themselves.

I love those pedantics. It's why meetings used to last all day especially with government employees. OK only one per household/licence fee domain etc etc etc.

As a watcher of "Worlds Strongest Man" I look forward to seeing Louis in the finals

I think Bruno let his hyperbole run away with him

Louis was a good dancer and deserved his place in the final, but overall dances that moved me this series were Kimba's VW. Her salsa, tango, charleston and american smooth were awesome.

Another reason is because its always been about Cheryl and I wanted Kimba to have the limelight for once but she was the best dancer I think. It would have been great for her album but Louis was an olympian and after watching his showdance again, it was stunning.

i.e. young people voted for one of the youngest contestants who performed "young" vital dances; the dirty dancing Salsa, the goofy Charleston and the thrusting showmypecsdance.

Not that surprizing,I suppose.

This has got to be a joke?

Ricky Whittle (hot nice body, teen soap star) losst to Chris Hollins and had more dance ability in his little finger!

We've had two male winners in a row yes, but before Harry, Kara made it equal male - female winners.

could argue the same that all the men just vote for Ola!

And that wouldn't be true either.

There are swarms of women who fancy Pasha and Artem as well so it's hardly like we're blind to a hot pro partner, so the argument is completely nonsensical.

Currently 60% of winners are men. If we get a female winner next year the percentage of male finalists would be 54% so it's hardly like the men are running away with it!
To be fair Ricky and Natalie that year were pretty much unvoteable as Nat came across far too strong.

Personally I thought Kara only managed to win because of people voting for Artem.

Female celebs are destined to lose unless the show is packed with dads and queens (of course dads can be queens too and vice versa). Young male ass on the show and they are going to struggle. Sad really when you think that the majority of people watching the show and voting are female but I guess too many women vote with their hormones (no way was Louis the best dancer) and lack solidarity with other women. As a woman I keep on wishing that this were not true but time and time again I'm disappointed.

Every year we get he/she shouldn't have won because.....(insert reason here). Kara won because she was the best dancer in the final, if it was just about the romance between her and Artem how come Ali Bastian didn't win or even come second with her romance with Brian Fortuna, she was in the final with Ricky Whittle (hot sexy guy) but no they both lost to Chris Hollins who wasn't in a romance and is by no means hot. Alesha won over Matt diAngelo again a relatively fit young man. I tend to pick one or two 'favourites' at the beginning of the series based on likeability as well as dancing ability and most of the people I know do the same. So Kara was my favourite before the romance, Matt and Alesha were both my favourites so I didn't vote in the final and chucked them an equal number of votes to get them through each week. Louis and Dani were my favourites from the start this year ,does that mean I fancied Dani too! I also warmed to Kimberley throughout the show and voted for all three to go through to the finals. Louis is a worthy winner this year despite being an Olympian!

The thing is there were threads on DS yesterday morning along the lines of "Who are you voting for tonight ?" a lot of people had already made their minds up for whatever reason.

It would have been very interesting if Louis had gone out and put in a performance so riddled with errors and mistakes and still gone onto win. The whole thing would have been undermined.

It would be the equivalent of a team reaching the Cup Final getting totally outplayed and hammered and then get given the cup because we loved you in the previous rounds and we think, despite losing 4-0 today, you deserve it. The cup is yours.....Crazy!

So what has being spun around on someones shoulders got to do with dancing?

Don't some gymnasts move rhythmically to music rather like dancers?

The year with Lisa Snowdon and Rachel losing over Tom has got to be the biggest disgrace though. Louis was a capable dance but his is no where in Kim or Denise's league.
Have to disagree, although that comes a close second, the year Darren Gough beat Colin Jackson and Zoe Ball, that was a downright disgrace.

Not sure, why not ask the English National Ballet why they decided to go down that route when they performed Men Y Men in 2011?

Yes, it's not traditional ballroom or Latin, but we're always told that anything goes in the showdance, and hats off to Flavia for being brave enough to try something different & go down the contemporary dance route whilst still mixing in bits of rumba and Argentine Tango.

If females were allowed to go topless and males were not on a family show, you can bet feminists would have the Director General hauled over the PC Coals.

However this outdated bit of Victorian standards is tolerated, because it is the other way around.

This is the 21st century, women can now serve on submarines and a younger male child will no longer become king over his older sister of Wills and Kate.

A flash of leg and knickers is not the same as nipples.

I don't get this argument. Because if it's true then why on earth did Matt Di Angelo not win? He was young, very good looking and a good dancer. He was the kind of guy who looked like he could've been in a boyband. Plus he was an actor in a show watched by millions. And he had Flavia!

And yet Alesha - who was relatively unknown at the time - beat him.

there seem to be some frustrated male posters who really do need to get into that big wide world out there - wonder if they are the same blokes who look at page 3 of the Sun - or would there be some difference in that? A lot of these comments about Louis are just patronising and ill-informed, as well as just being on a wind up
Sexist and nasty post. Showing yourself up with that.
