He won't retire. He'll go on until he is physically unable to or, and I know this sounds awful, he dies. The BBC which is already under much scrutiny over Savilegate would get it in the neck big style if they were to let him go so their hands are defectively tied.

The BBC have said they will leave it to Bruce to decide and behind the scenes they have a plan of action when that day arrives. Like the Queen's funeral.

I'm scared what revelations will come about Bruce. Like, his jokes were really that bad in private too

I think the BBC thinks it doesn't need an ageism row on top of the other problems it has but the rags will hate the Beeb no matter what it does and the fans are turning against him. It wouldn't be as big a deal as they think.

I quite like Bruce, but hasn't he heard of quitting while you're on top?

Obsession you say. Some people seem to be obsessed with complaining about him, he plays a small part, I cant see the problem.

If only he played a small part...

It should be a small part, the problem is, he tries to turn it into a big one.

His role is insignificant apart from in the minds of those who choose to focus on it.

It has to be his way or no way. I think if he was asked to change or adapt his style he'd quit.

Someone ask him to change and adapt his style NOW! Please.

I would be happy to boycott SCD next year in protest. Thing is, they'd never notice just one viewer less

There is no need for Sir Bruce to change the vast majority of viewers love him the way he is

I completely disagree. I think only a small proportion of viewers enjoy Bruce. Everyone else just tolerates him as everything else about Strictly is fab. He may not want to quit but why can't his contract just not be renewed and do us all a favour?

Nobody should ask him, they should tell him.

Prove it using statistics.

You can hardly click on a site these days and not be asked to provide some kind of feedback. I wonder if head-in-the-sand BBC does audience research in relation to how Brucie is perceived on Strictly and what the findings are.

I would imagine they know.

They've had to wheel Tess and Craig out to defend him suggesting that they are on the defensive about him as they rather stupidly said it was his decision when he'll go.

I believe their only fear is a media ageism storm which, on top of the Savile mess, is a problem they feel they don't need. But the tabloids will hammer the BBC no matter what it does and its biggest loyalty has to be to the show's fans so they may well take action.

There's no doubt that over the years Brucie has been a good game show host. However, time catches up with us all and I'm afraid he's getting past it and it would be better for him to quit rather than carry on and look totally ridiculous.

The clowns that run the BBC have so many layers of management that a move to end Brucie's time on SCD would take many years to go through due process that he will be there for many more years until they are wheeling him on.
For me he is spoiling the show because of his ego, he thinks the show is about him.

The first time I remember Bruce on my radar was when I was 6 and was taken to see him in pantomime in the Crane Theatre, Liverpool.

I have just celebrated my 60th birthday. He is well past his sell by.

As others have said, it would be a great shame if he carried on and ruined his reputation, built up over years.

Sir Bruce has vowed to carry on but it has been announced that after nearly 50 years in showbiz working for greats such as Frank Sinatra and Paul Daniels his toupee has decided to retire . One would just like to congratulate that beauty on its retirement for being the best in the business and managing to stay on Bruce's head all those years .

Every time Bruce fluffs a line or misses a cue I sense this forum coming alive with 'Get Bruce Out' comments and threads.

However the BBC know the public are fickle. They probably get a ton of pleas to get rid of Bruce but the fear is if they do push him in the direction of retirement and it affects his health (or worse) and then blame is pionted at the Beeb, they will have no defence.

If he goes and it turns out badly (for whatever reason) the public are likely to say "But we never wanted Bruce to go! This is ageism! What a reward for 70 years in the business! Bad BBC!" The GBP are fickle. So the BBC have to act with caution.

Please don't tell me Thatcher is lined up to be the next host. Or that she's taking over the Tess-pit.

But he got off to a very bad start on Saturday - all over the place. I reckon he'd been on the Baileys a bit too early. He didn't seem to know what he was doing for much of the time on Saturday and that 'get back, get back' bit at the end, was woeful.
