Nearly 14 million watched the final, also beating x factor this season

Excellent ratings for Strictly this year and keep over taking x factor. This programme is getting better and better every year.

TBF I'm not sure it's SCD getting better...it's X Factor getting worse.

13 million women voting and 1 million men just watching- amazing

Well done SCD

Excellent
What I love about strictly is that it has a funny bit, a professional bit, and then a bright lights-fancey dress bit.
Where as X factor is all about knocking people down - and filling Simon Cowells pockets with un-needed money.

Gave up on X-Factor and watched SCD this year.

It was brilliant and I'm gutted its all over.

I think SCD is better this year and the viewing figures seem to confirm this.

12.35m (49.1%)
* peak: 13.97m (53.1%) at 19:45

12.11m (46.4%)
* peak: 13.43m (50.8%) at 21:55

Well, the final peak didn't exactly beat Britain's Got Talent's final peak of 14.5m (55%) but it was close, and it did at least beat X Factor.

There was a TV critic talking about it on the BBC News channel last night. He was saying something similar, that in the year of the Olympics and also the present economic situation people don't want the negativity of Ex Factor and similar programmes whereas Strictly Come Dancing is much more positive (even Craig seems to have mellowed).

Up on last year, still down on Series 8, which looks like it might be the show's peak.

Viewing habits have changed so much since then though.
Was catch up readily available then as well as the ability to record so easily?

I think the total of viewers is probably much larger than the released figures suggest.

It's just fabulous glittery sparkly happy tv and brightens up winter evening. Pure TV gold

and most of the men being forced to watch were bitching about Louis on here - really going for it as well! how on old women (incontinent ones too) and gays got the win for him. then others saying teenage girls voted for same reason .

BGT doesn't take itself too seriously.

XFactor and the people who still watch it take themselves so seriously it's laughable. All this adamance that it has to be a credible winner so much so that Katie Waisell, Rylan and Chris Maloney get Nasty abuse tweeted to them. Never see that happen with SCD or The Voice, which actually did produce credible talent.

It used to have the fun factor as well as great talent now it's just obsessed with being credible! For most people it's a big turn off.

BGT has gone the opposite way and is 100% about the fun and joy of taking part and less about the talent.
