Does anyone happen to know if M&S sell nice boxes of diabetic chocolates (or low sugar as I believe it's referred to these days)?

I'm in need of a pressie for OH's mother and I have neither a Thorntons or Hotel Chocolat in Croydon.

Thanks, she'll only eat the diabetic stuff though!

Maybe I'll have to think of an alternative pressie.

I've not seen diabetic chocs in marks and spencer. I think you may be better off getting her something totally different. M&s have some nice foodie gifts. We've made some nice gift sets for people. I did one with truffle oil, some black salt flakes and small bottle of prosecco.

I agree about getting something completely different. She's not really a foodie though so I'm now thinking a book or some smellies.

Just get 74/85% Plain/Dark Chocolate which normally has a lot less sugar in it than Milk or standard Plain Chocolate. Not to everyone's taste mind but if trying to keep sugar intake down probably best option. Got to read the packaging for sugar content I'm afraid.

Also eat in moderation.

My dietician told me to avoid specific Diabetic products as they are usually way overpriced and don't offer that much health benefit.

Diabetic chocolate contains Sorbitol, to much of which can give you the trots. A small amount of milk chocolate wouldn't do her any harm.

my mum is type 2 diet controlled diabetic and her diabetic nurse said it was fine for her to have a small amount of chocolate as long as she'd eaten proper food first ie her dinner, as its evening when she really fancies it

she's very careful as a rule but at 80 years of age i haven't the heart to deny it to her if she wants it!!

diabetic control is not just about controlling your intake of sugar it is about learning to maintain a healthy diet, so if you insist on buying one of them chocolate just make it good quality, high cocoa stuff and in reasonable quantities - ie not a king size mars bar!!!
