There we are question in title.

I remember grant playing the tape and It being mega moment. In some ways the reveal in pub I feel is very similar to kat/Alfie/Derek.

For me I think Sharon/grant/Phil was better.... Would be cool if Sharon said to Phil next day it was like de ja vu a bit

Sharongate was better than the Alfie reveal, but the Christmas reveal of Max and Stacey is pretty high up there.

Yes Max and Stacey was one of my favourite reveals.
Just felt Alfie reveal similar in venue etc to Sharon tape... With whole pub watching on.

I can't believe you just asked this question No, I'm joking, but Sharongate is EE history, a lot of people who don't even watch EE know about it, and that famous line from Sharon 'One minute I was looking at him, and the next we were ripping each others clothes off'. The shagger reveal won't be remembered at all in a few years.

Sharongate was better. A lot better.

But I do think Alfie's "Which one of you has been shagging my wife?" may go down as one of those soap lines that people will remember. The reveal was good, just a shame the actual storyline was so poorly done.

So was the Pat/Frank reveal in Bonfire night, year 2000 i think it was?

I'm not putting down the Alfie reveal episodes at all, as I enjoyed them, I just think it won't go down in Eastenders history as Sharongate has.

I can't believe you are comparing the rubbish of today's efforts, to the brilliance of the 90's. Sharongate is an all time unbeatable classic.

Ross Kemp's performance was incredible when Grant played the tape and then turned round to Phil and Sharon.

Was Sharongate the first time some manner of recording technology was used in the big reveal of a secret in soapland?

I havent watched EE in years and just watched Alfie/Kat/Derek reveal episode. That doesn't even come close to Sharongate. Imho, Sharongate was the most memorable episode which sticks in my mind, yes, I still remember Grant's face to this day, he was about to go psycho.
Also, I think Den and Angie and when he find out she didn't have six months to live.

The Kat/Derek reveal was decent, however I doubt I'll even remember it in a few years. Imo the top three affair reveals in EE history are Sharongate (of course), Pat/Frank on bonfire night, and Bianca/Dan. Honourable mentions also to the Sharon/Dennis and Stacey/Max reveals, which both occurred on Christmas Day.

Doesn't come close. The audience were invested in the Sharongate reveal because they had watched and understood why the affair happened. We got none of that with the Kat/Derek affair; thus the reveal was nowhere near as poignant.

People watching the Sharongate reveal were, mostly, watching it because they had been thoroughly invested in the affair and knew exactly why and how the affair happened, and exactly what it entailed for all involved. The majority of the people watching the Kat/Derek reveal were likely just watching it to find out if their hunch on the mystery shagger was right, before proceeding to not really give a crap. Nowhere near as meaningful.

Sharongate was a legendary storyline. The Kat/ Derek affair does not even come close.

Sharongate is the reveal against which all reveals are measured. The Kat affair reveal? It just doesn't compare.

Completely agree with all of this! Even though Jessie was superb in this ep IMO, the fact that we knew Derek would be the shagger but still had to endure the tedium of all 3 Branning brothers ogling Kat like she was Angelina Jolie and their mobiles ringing at the same time, meant that most of us just weren't bothered by the time the reveal happened:yawn:. Added to that the fact that Kat's already had about 27 affairs since she returned also meant we couldn't invest in this story:sleep:!

Now the Sharongate story, well, the fact people still talk about this 18 YEARS on, shows just how classic this was!

The Mitchell brothers were far superior to the Branning brothers...one of the best things to happen to EE. Then it was the first big reveal so it had far more impact.

So true! The Branning brothers just make me cringe how they strut round as though they're the Kray's:yawn:!

All 3 of them wearing suits all the time! Derek doesn't even have a job and yet he's never worn anything apart from a suit, Jack runs a sweaty dive of a boxing club and Max sells about 3 cars per year from the dingy car lot! The next Alan Sugars they ain't!

Good question. The thing with the Sharon reveal was watching her stand there while the tape was played and feeling her humiliation whereas Kat appeared in the Vic near the end of the confrontation.
