The short era with Ten has flopped, but which was the cause?

You call a number 2 single, a Gold Album (after 1 month of sales) and 3 dates at the O2 a flop???

A dire lead single and an album that no fan actually needs or wants.

#2 then the next week it was #14 big drop.
Gold album means what 400,000 sold, hardly big suprise when the album was selling for 3 in certain places after just 2 weeks.
Album got to #9 just about, hardly a success

the amount of PR they have had in the past 5 weeks and a TV show and 3 album is what has saved girls aloud from been dropped.

We all know the single did drop quite dramatically but it still got to #2 - how many artists achieved that??

Whatever about the price of the album and the TV exposure, for anyone to be able to sell out the O2 for 3 nights is a good feat, not to mention they're a girl band.

I believe it is mainly down to the fact their last Greatest Hits album sold over 1 million copies. Why should people bother buying twice?

Albums just don't sell as well as they once did.

The lowest the album has been priced has been 4.97 on Amazon, nothing less than that. That was a weekend deal the retailers did obviously with the authorisation of the label.

It's average price has remained quite high 10.99, 6.99 and 8.99. The album on iTunes considering its songs that 1 million people have already purchased many times is quite pricey still. GA fans have even bought these songs so many times - the singles when the came out, when the first GH came out, when the studio albums came out, when the singles boxset came out again and now we're at that point again.

21 dates of a tour almost sold out - what other girl band can sell out 21 arena tour dates right now?
A single that went to No.2, and sold 70k in the first week. Yes it dropped down the chart but there was alot of releases and in line with their previous releases its in the upper half of their singles in terms of sales figures.
Album has now gone gold and should easily surpass 200,000 by the end of the year, and go platinum quite possibly too - not too bad that this is their second GH with 60% reoccuring material from the first GH.

I mean look at Kylie, she's quite universally liked....her recent GH has flopped celebrating 25 yrs in the biz, why? because people are not going to buy another greatest hits when they've already bought your first greatest hits with the same versions of the songs, they bought Ultimate Kylie. But Abbey Road Sessions has done better because they are new versions of songs. I think this applies to GA too.
I don't think anyone can deny they're not as popular as they once where, but for a pop group that went away for 3 years its kind of amazing that they've not mega flopped in record sales right now. Other pop groups such as Blue, S Club 7 and Steps have struggled in terms of record sales. They are still liked by the media, helped by the fame of Cheryl but they are a huge success story and come on they've not flopped at all. The last few Children In Need singles dropped the charts even worse. It's a lot easier for boybands, for a girlband to have maintained momentum and have not flopped hugely in ten years is kind of amazing.

If it's under-performed (and I don't know if it has) it probably because they had a greatest hits collection out just a few years ago and have recorded nothing new (apart from their two new singles) since.

Their CIN single has done better than the Spice Girls CIN single which didn't even make the top ten.

Girls Aloud didn't flop. Maybe the comeback wasn't as successful as they had hoped but they've still done well since they came back.

I think most people might be confused with Cheryl which part of her career is in hiatus.

I can't see the group recording and touring again as a working unit as she seems to be a solo act now. It would be like Diana Ross going back to the Supremes in 1973.

yes, because otherwise the label would've have definitely dropped them ahead of their arena tour next year

It's a GH album after three years that doesn't have anything really new on it other than some of Nicola's solo album cast offs, it was never going to set the charts alight.

It's all about the tour this era as that's really where the money is for most artists nowadays

hahahahahahaha

The Saturdays must have been dropped about 12 times if that was the case!

A second greatest hits collection is lucky to go top 30 let alone top 10.

I'm sick of people having a go at Girls Aloud, they've been around for 10 years, surely that is enough to silence their critics?? They have been the most successful girl group in the UK since the Spice Girls, and it will take acts like Little Mix at least another 5 years (if they last that long) to top that. I seriously doubt they run the risk of being dropped, they are on the same label as The Saturdays, who can't even get a number 1 and couldn't fill Girls Aloud's boots when they went on a hiatus for what some say was an opportunity for The Saturdays to prove themselves.

Completely disagree with the 'flop' statement. It didn't do as well as previous albums simply because it was a Greatest Hits. There are only four brand new tracks (three, not including 'Something New'). Had they have release a new studio album, you'd be looking at a certain top 3 at least. Promotion wasn't as strong as it could've been but considering a Greatest Hits was released a few years ago by them, I believe top ten is great. Sales are also strong considering the time it's had to sell.

It is fair enough to say - "not done amazingly"..but I think flop is a bit much
I am actually more worried what is happening next..e.g. next single??
