why do Play.com let traders fleece their customers???
Im looking for Far Cry 3: The Lost Expeditions Edition cheap for PS3
I come across Play.com trader selling it for £30 - first thing i read in the small print is "This is not the Lost Expedition Edition - It's just the standard edition I could've just as easily advertised my listing with the other standard editions, but you can buy std edition anywhere for £20 - just thought I'd advertise standard edition in this special edition to brass you totally off for Xmas and maybe waste some of your life - and with a bit of luck you wouldn't notice this and buy it anyway so I can fleece you for another £10 Happy Christsmas - Suckers" I actually added the last bit on - but why do Play.com let traders fleece their customers??? - I dont buy from play so doesn't really affect me but surely they will get a worse reputation than Ebay |

It is the same as ebay. How many "you are biding on a PS3 box only, not the console" auctions do you see? It is not cost effective having someone check all the listings as they go up.
If you complain they might well look at it then. |

I dont expect them to check every listing - but they could help them selves by including a 'report' button just like on every forum ive ever seen - so potential buyers can report 'dodgy' listings so a moderator can check it out

Carboots , Amazon , Ebay , Fetes , 2nd hand shops , dodgy ppl in street etc you got a chance of being fleeced anywhere thesedays. In fairness to play.com if a playtrade sale goes wrong play.com do refund the buyer.
Also play.com do have a feedback section to where the buyer leaves feedback for the seller. I'm not defending play.com i'm just saying. |

This made me laugh when I seen it a while ago.

I miss the old Play.Com, they got taken over by Rakuten (a Japanese firm) just over a year ago, and they don't seem to be as good now. A few years ago i used them heavily, now i just buy a handful of things from there.

I read that ebay considered this but decided it makes it too easy for people to report things. So along with the real scams you get competitors reporting similar auctions to jam them up.

Well the VAT change - which is why the old owners had to sell up - changed the business model a lot. Not as much margin on prices probably necessitated a cut in customer services - not that play were ever great at CS.

I recently bought a game from play.com and the seller sent me an American version. It still played, but even so, if I wanted an import I'd have gone elsewhere and paid much cheaper.
The same thing happened a couple of weeks previously when I was sent a R1 version of Breaking Bad season 4. Learnt my lesson now, not buying via their marketplace again. |
