So what gifts did everyone get for the kitchen then?

My OH bought me a fabulous Le Creuset dish, it was really unexpected and a brilliant surprise. It's a really good sized one in blue and I love it! Also, not strictly a foodie pressie, but he also bought me a digital radio which will definitely be used while I'm in the kitchen.

I have yet to open gifts from family but I imagine there might be something else for me to use in the kitchen amongst them.

Your turn.

I've got a blue cook pot too. Not Le Creuset because it's from my daughter and her fiance and they apologised for not being able to afford Le Creuset. There was no need, obviously. And anyway, it's what I needed and it's exactly the right size.

Also got Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries II. That should keep my quiet for a while.

Big stew pot for making our dog food in, been using the bottom of the steamer but that isn't really big enough.

Bar of caramac ! Love that stuff.

Gordon Ramsay's latest book and a bottle of Jim Beam Honey. Plus a decent couple of bottles of red wine.

Why do people assume that a present which has anything to do with the kitchen or cooking, cleaning and the like, is not a 'proper' present? Several years ago, my fiance bought me a Dualit 4 slice stainless steel toaster, and a Siemens Porsche kettle which I had, in the past, admitted to coveting. I was absolutely over the moon and now both are working as well as ever, so the money he paid was well worth it. Back to my point, though; when a girl at work asked him what he had got me for christmas, and he replied 'a kettle and a toaster' - granted, he didn't say 'designer', she was flabbergasted, telling him that wasn't a real present, to which he replied 'well she liked them'. I think they thought he was being mean!

I have never had a sweet tooth and don't eat sweets/cake and the like or drink alcohol. All of my family are aware of this, but still usually buy me both. Although I was spared the wine this year, I was given truffles, which will go to the girls at work, I think. Mum got several boxes of thorntons, etc., and is trying to offload them onto me (for work) cos she'll just eat them! That's the point!

Obviously as a child I ate sweets, and I loved caramac and milky bar! Isn't it expensive now? I think a single bar of caramac is over 40p?

Perhaps it goes back to being 'practical' gift? I think for those of us that love our kitchens/cooking, they're ideal, whereas other people may just think of them as 'practical' or a bit dull.

Personally, I can never get enough kitchen stuff!

I had nothing this year. But I bought my father miniture jars of old fashioned sweets, Hugh's Three Good Things and things to brew his own beer. He's been brewing wine for a while so I decided to set him a new challenge

I'm glad he didn't say 'designer toaster' as he would have sounded like a right Pillock!

Me and the mrs love cooking so foodie presents are great for us. Each to their own and all that.

There's a new shop that just specialises in different flavoured oils and vinegars. (You can choose the type of container and quantity too).

I treated my brother to a pomegranate balsamic vinegar. I am not keen on balsamic vinegar but even I found this divine! (They do tastings).

I bought my mam an Oxo jar opener because her hands are getting all arthritic and also a pair of Le Crueset oven gloves. She loved both. Usually mam gets us something for the kitchen but she didnt this year!
