Simon on the Comedy Awards

Jonathan Ross asked him "that taxi driver who won, do you REALLY think he has the X Factor"

Simon pointed out that Steve's single is currenty the number 2 best seller

Jonathan replied that his youngest daughter said Steve was a number 2 from his first audition ...

Simon tried hard to look disapproving but didn't quite manage it! Also saw a little backstage interview where he didn't seem to how any animosity towards Sharon so who knows how much of it was real and how much staged!

I'm always looking for theories about things so here's my latest.Simon holds all the cards so the final decision will be his about Sharon. He doesn't need to share what he really feels with anyone.

Simon was supposed to be the only one presenting an award himself last night. That was until Ozzy 'decided to stay home and watch television' which also left Sharon as a singleton too......I wonder.

Did I imagine it or did anyone else notice that Carolyn Quentin completely ignored Mrs Osbourne?

Chris Tarrant was alone also.

After my sudden discovery that the Osbournes were in fact the monied version of the Battersby's I have taken to calling Sharon, Cilla now. She was very Cilla last night but Les had decided to stay home with a can to watch TV. Leanne and Chesney were there though.

I prefer to think of Jack Osbourne as Kirk - Chesney's too cute to be compared to that oaf

Reading way too much between the lines Sharon is a manager not an actress. She has rarely held back on what SHE believes is the truth.

Oh of course! I knew Chesney was wrong (far too good looking, talented etc) but I forgot all about Kirk!

Didn't think I'd commernted on Sharon actually, rather than in the context of other peoples' reactions to her, ah welll ...

But if you do want to read between the lines look at Simon - I'd say his barely concealed smirking would show an absolute faith in his artist rather than a lack of confidence as personally, if I was managing someone I thought was a bit rubbish I'd be completely on the defensive whereas Simon seemed amused and at ease.

I do reckon the final say re: Sharon's return will be down to Simon. He is the one who makes the show what it is - and I honestly can't see him being replaced, whereas you could quite easily substitute Pete Waterman for Louis and Paula Abdul for Sharon and not change the programme's basic identity.

Funnily enough I've always thought that Simon's smirking shows an absolute faith in himself - his ability to sell any half-decent artist to the public and make money out of it, rather than faith in the abilities of the artist concerned.

Well I suppose if you look at westlife, then that could be true What an even more amazing man Simon is then, than I first believed him to be

I wasn't trying to discredit Steve with that comment - I think Simon would feel the same whoever had won. Just to clarify!

Funny that. How can you tell the difference?

I think it's called pre-conceptions.

PS - not defending or supporting. Just observing.

I can't. It's just what I thought when I saw him talking. Probably far from true, what do I know?
