Wensleydale v Stilton : the difference?

Is anyone else like me? My favourite cheeses are flavoured wensleydale and flavoured stilton. Problem is, I always forget which is which, and how to differentiate between the two. Currently, I am having one with date and orange but I couldn't, for the life of me, tell you which variety it is!

Isn't Stilton creamier and less crumbly?

I've only ever seen white Stilton with date and orange, never Wensleydale.

Wensleydale is a lovely white mild cheese and Stilton is sweaty socks stuff..............

Maybe i exagerate but I've never been able to eat stilton which is a shame as i love cheese and I think Stilton is probably the champagne of British cheese, but I just can't eat it.............

Yes, but then they are labelled as such.

Stilton is usually blue.... and honks.

Wensleydale is usually white and creamy.

This is also what I thought when I read the title. They are nothing alike. It's like saying whats the difference between cheddar and philly

The Stilton that comes with fruit is white though, and not too dissimilar to Wensleydale. It has not been matured or had the bacteria introduced which gives the strong taste to traditional blue Stilton.

One difference is Wensleydale cheese can be made in Wensleydale, but Stilton cheese can't be made in Stilton.

Wensleydale is a delightfully mild crumbly cheese with a subtle nutty flavour. Stilton is a strong tasting blue cheese with no pretentions of sublety. Why would you want to eat either polluted with fruit or other flavours? Cotherstone, a variant on Wensleydale, is one of the best cheeses around and exists thanks to Thatcher the milk snatcher.

But in this case the stilton is white and both have fruit.
If these cheeses didn't have labels could you tell the difference?

The OP may have bought the cheese from the counter and discarded the wrapping, or from a deli which didn't indicate which was which.

I think that would be a good way to judge it

^ or even better. Google it and see what flavours are offered in each cheese.
