Does EE (Orange/T-mobile) really have the best 3G coverage?
Just wanted to hear about anyone's personal experience with them compared to other networks

"Best" is hard to define.
EE might have the highest percentage coverage of the UK population, but another network might have 3G coverage in places where you want it. |

I find they have the best signal over here and speeds were vey good until recent months. There's massive work going on over here though over the next few months which should vastly improve it and make it faster than it ever was.
I find that speeds over here increase at night. That could be attributed to less users at night or no work ongoing at night. It's worth remembering that you won't find a perfect or best network. Some networks will be better in 1 area than others and vice versa so it's personal preference really in regards to where you live. |

I've found coverage to be excellent; network speed will always vary on local load. |

And here was me thinking that they'd now linked networks and shared all the infrastructure ...
I've found coverage to be excellent; network speed will always vary on local load. Nope, Far from it. both of them are still different but the operator name is changed to EE. there is stil 23430 and 23433 Plus data networks are different. tmobile is still AS29328 and orange is still AS12576 |

Orange and T-Mobile do share.. My phone switches between them quite happily depending on which has best signal. Please stop spreading crap. If Orange is so crap why does my Orange sim get the exact same speeds and coverage as my EE4G sim (with the 4G turned off.) Quite often seeing 20mbps..
There are areas that are better served by other operators or areas that could be improved by all but EE/TMUK/Orange currently have the best UK 3G coverage, Three close behind. |

I can tell you that T-Mobile/EE is significantly better thanVodafone throughout much of the North and East of Scotland but that's not much use to you if you live in Birmingham, for example. |

Don't forget Orange and T mobile had to get rid of some of their infrastructure AA part of the merger. For me, this meant they got rid of my local transmitter which left me with a lower signal and data speed than what I previously had previously merger. Orange speeds dropped as low as 1.5 Meg compared to my almost constant 10meg with Three. To be fair though, o2 didn't seem to offer much better speeds than Orange/EE in my area either.

Three & EE (T-Mo/Orange) technically speaking have the best 3G coverage.
However, on Three you don't get 2G backup so if you go to an area with no 3G you'd fall back onto nothing (or Orange 2G which is very limited). Where as on EE you'd fall back onto a large 2G network. 3G coverage is quite good now but you'll still find a few/number of places where there is no 3G coverage at all. This is a great plus for EE. However, Three are a bit better when it comes to the internet side, so tethering, unlimited data plans and cheap costs. Their 3G network is just as good as mentioned earlier. Both networks use DC-HSPA+ and will have 50% of the UK covered by January. Compared to O2 and Vodafone, EE & Three are much better at the moment. However, just because EE && Three are good overall does not mean that in your area you will have good signal with them. I recommend asking friends, looking at the instore intranet coverage checker (which is in depth) or using a PAYG sim to determine which network is best in your area. If you travel a lot then there is no point comparing EE/Three to Voda and O2 as EE would win hands down. But if you stay in one area most of the time then it's good to compare just in case. Hope i explained this well. |

In Devon and Cornwall, for 3G coverage 3 and EE are unbeatable. O2 and Vodafone barely manage to cover the urban areas, whereas 3/EE can be surprising in terms of where they really do have coverage (I've been in the woods and got a small 3G signal)

But irrelevant to what OP wants to know, since you'll always use whichever is best at the time.
In my experience the phone will go with the one that is providing the better 2G. This has been a real problem on occasion in the past when Orange 3G has been really poor, but just recently it has been better than ever in many areas I venture into, so hasn't been an issue. |
