At risk of encouraging spoilers, bookmaker William Hill offers 8/11 against a man winning The Apprentice and Evens against a woman.

I added the note "possible spoiler" as I think it more likely Hills does not know The Apprentice is generally filmed in advance, than it has found out the sex of the finalists. Since bets will be limited to very small stakes, they will not care.

Hills offers similar bets on the other reality series.

I predict that the eventual loser of the series will be.... drum roll.... Mr Alan Sugar.

No major surprise.... Mr Alan Sugar left school with, sadly, a few mediocre grades at O level to his name before becoming a mere Barrow Boy, and failed to make the grade for A levels, let alone College and University Study.

A few years ago, Mr Sugar introduced a combined public phone with email devise, which bombed.... but, at the same time, Mr Sugar predicted that Apples iPod would bomb without a trace.

Which looks like 3 out of the 4 will be males or 2/4 will be but the females have scraped through by luck?

Fifty years ago, the school leaving age was 15, and just 20,000 people applied for university places, compared with three quarters of a million today.

Even for professions like solicitor or accountant, it was common to train on the job and at evening classes, rather than go to university.

Like most of us, Sugar is not always right (although the ipod prediction seems odd since mp3 players were already commonplace: are you sure about that?), and sometimes you can be right too soon, before the technology is ready. Nowadays most of us do have in our pockets phones that can send email (and take photos, surf the web and watch The Apprentice).
