About time I left Apple for Samsung!
So after owning 3 iPhones, the last being the 4, I've decided I need something new. I'm thinking the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - though it looks huge, I had a play and its really cool for a gadget freak like me
I've been on Tesco mobile for the past two years, does anyone have any knowledge of the Three network? It appears to have the best offer £36/month. Also, if anyone has anything to say about the Note, let me know. Cheers. I hope the switch from iOS to Android won't be too bad. |

Hello!
I left Orange for Three in November 2011 and i've never looked back. I'm on their One Plan with Unlimited Data (fully unlimited, including tethering), 5000 texts, 2000 any net minutes and 5000 3 to 3 minutes along with free voicemail. The internet is much quicker than Orange or Tesco in my area, i average about 10meg with Three compared to 1.5-3.0meg with Orange. It's great. |

Thanks for that. I think that is the tariff I am looking at getting. I'm attracted to the unlimited Internet!
I've just got to play with the Note 2 another time tomorrow to double check its not too big. I still want to look 'cool' when I'm in a bar and take a photo ha |

To OP,
I was exactly same in your position (except I had all gens of iPhone). Samsung has stepped up their game in last 2 years and found very interesting devices like S2 & Note. I waited until the launch of iPhone 5, but it failed to impress me comparing to Galaxy S3. For a short period I owned S3 and sold later thinking to move on to Note II, but got Nexus 4 for £279 from Google. It was very hard to find suitable replacement apps, after using highly refined and fine tuned iOS apps but finally got into android. Still a lot of music apps, navigation apps are missing (spent around £800 or iOS apps, so far) on Android but I'm sure I took the right direction. Check on One stop phone shop / buymobilephones.net or similar shop for the best deals (alternatively check for cheapest offer via money supermarket.com). You don't need Three One plan unless you want to tether your internet connection. I think unlimited data plan can be attached to any Three tariff by paying extra £3. HTH |

Three only has a 3g network and if outside of their network the phone will revert to Orange for a 2g signal but this only caters for calls and texts, not data. This hasn't been an issue for me as the only place i visit that doesn't have a decent 3g coverage just happens to have Wifi Anyway. I have a 3g signal and pull down speeds of about 4-5meg when in the most unlikely location to get a signal (Static Caravan by the sea, in a nice place called Cockerham). |

Cheers for the help guys. I didn't know that about Three and their lack of 3G! I'll have to rethink this now. I'm really after the Note 2 now. It looks great.

If you need tethering and unlimited net you have to go with Three. And its not a lack of 3g they have. Its a lack of 2g. Their 3g network is the best out there. But as mentioned they don't have 2g. Im on three and personally I am rarely without a signal. Good to test first before you commit. |

Three has usually been the fastest for internet.
I'd have no qualms about switching to them. Why not buy a 1GB Sim for £6 just to test? |

I ditched O2 for Three a couple of months ago.
No regrets. Better 3G coverage, better speeds, unlimited data. |

The OP should also take a look at the Nokia Lumia 800 which my brother was brought for his birthday and he let me have a look at it and it is a very good phone.
He has the black version but there is also a blue version. |

No regrets. Better 3G coverage, better speeds, unlimited data. i'm on O2 and get 300 minutes (never use any minutes), unlimited txts, and unlimited data (and yes it is unlimited as i'm on an old grandfathered sim only iphone plan) - for £15pm reduced to around £11 after 30% friends and family discount. minutes are really of no interest to me as i never call out. |

I did the same as Matt. On Three I get 200 mins 5000 texts and completely unlimited data for £12.90 a month (SIM only plan). It's 30 day contract, so I'm not tied in either. I get 3G more than twice the speed I used to get on O2, and I get 3G in places where only GPRS was available with O2.
i'd rather have slower 3G and have data when no 3G is available, than faster 3G but no data when there is no coverage. guess it depends what you use the phone for. but having a connection is more important to me than the potential 3G speeds. |

what about the places with no three 3g coverage though, you end up with no data connection.

Although it should not be a problem if you are usually in built up areas. |

When I was with Three for mainly Data, i found them to be exceptional. Using a Mifi and then a phone with tethering for my laptop etc while working or away in hotels. Good HSDPA signal in most places I went.
So, I decided to swap my out of contract Voda number to Three onto the One Plan. Bad mistake. If I was driving and on handsfree in rural areas, the 3g signal would drop and would not handover to Orange straight away (even though there was an Orange signal there, if I stopped and forced the phone to handover it would straight away). I would have to redial. Its not a good impression. Then if I was to drive back towards an area of 3g coverage, it would take an absolute age to hand back into 3g. I paid up the remainder of the contract so I could port my number back out it was that bad for me. Im now with EE (TMobile). Knowing that Tmobile share most (if not all) of Three's masts and vice versa, Tmobile should have the same 3G coverage as Three. Add on to that they have their own 2g network with seamless handovers (99% of the time) as well as Oranges 2g/3g network to use, I find them a better proposition on the whole. Slightly slower 3g speeds on Tmobile than on Three (and dire on Orange) but the better signal is worth it IMO. |

Been with three since June 2011. Live in kt4 postcode but travel all round the south east of England. The 3g area for signal blows All others away for coverage and I have had a Vodafone and o2 work smart phones in the past. Trust me three is one of the best for data.

If you want to change networks, buy a pay as you go sim for your chosen network, and try it out for a while in the places where you go.
It may mean lugging two phones round with you for a while ( at least one of which should/must be unlocked) but you will soon get an idea of the networks coverage in the places where you go. For me Three's signal is vastly superior to that of 02 but for other places in the UK that may be different. |
