I don't see that using golden syrup is somehow more virtuous than sugar or honey!

I've been using maple syrup recently, though traditionalists would insist that putting any sort of sweetener on your porridge is pretty degenerate.

That's what I do but about 3 min in microwave, and I stick either a chopped apple or a handful of raisins in before I cook it. Yum

I buy the cheapest own brand (75p for 1kg) I add water to about half a mug of oats. I microwave it and add cinnamon and sultanas . I have this most days for breakfast.

Some of the varieties of rolled oats are (to my taste) far too fine, and I much prefer the coarser ones that are a bit more chewy, like Sainsbury's "Taste the Difference" Scottish Whole Rolled Porridge Oats. Runny, dribbly porridge is very boring stuff, though. You should be able to stand your spoon up in your porridge!

I used to like porridge made with pinhead oatmeal, but I don't seem to have made that for a while.

I lived off porridge for about a month. Now I can't stand it. Too much of a good thing.

Is the reason because you left school at 13?

Quaker Oats. Sugar sprinkle and sometimes (actually always, always) dash of natural yogurt.

Porridge every day before morning exercise -

Half dozen almonds, half dozen Walnut halves, a Brazil Nut, and a teaspoonful each of Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds and Pumpkin seeds - all mashed up with a mortar & pestle.

This, along with a banana and two spoonfuls of Goji Berries chucked into a blender with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of skimmed milk (both warm but not hot first, helps soften up the blending).
Resulting gloop poured into saucepan with 1 cup of Porridge oats, half teaspoon of Cinnamon and a teaspoon or less of Blackstrap Molasses.

Keep it stirred.

Yeah porridge most mornings in winter. I just usually get the oats that are on offer. Mix oats with milk then microwave. In the summer I have oats and yoghurt for breakfast.

I have the traditional Scotts Porridge Oats. I put some porridge oats in a dish with milk and microwaive it for a minute at a time, stir it and carry on microwaiving until cooked. I always put sugar on mine.

Bought a box of Scotts Porridge Oats today £1.75p - 1kg. I have mostly had that brand but am interested in trying some of the cheaper brands.”

Mad Hatter ive not ate porridge in years but i'll tell you what you wont regret it.
