The smell of it can make me balk....the sight of it guarantees a retching.

It's a food phobia I doubt I'll ever be able to rectify.

a slice would just be like unsweetened flapjack, would it not?

no worse than tripes, or bread and dripping. we are just a bit fussier now than formerly.

I started eating it earlier this year. 2 tablespoons of oat bran with milk and a teaspoon of sugar, nicely warmed up on the hob whilst I'm getting ready for work.

I prefer to eat oat bran. It is creamier than porridge and seems to fill you up more quickly. I buy a 1 kilo bag for £1.99 at a health shop but you can buy it in the cereal aisle at most supermarkets.

Nutritionally it is slightly better than porridge oats. Lowers cholesterol, loads of fibre so good for toilet habits, great for diabetics etc

For 2 of us I use 5 tablespoons and approx 3/4 pint of liquid. I generally use half skimmed milk and half water. I put it in a big bowl and microwave for 3 mins, stir and then do another minute. I sprinkle some sweetener on mine but hubby likes it as it is. We usually put some fresh fruit on top too - sliced banana, blueberries or fresh mango. Yum!

I like 1/2 milk 1/2 water in mine too, it tastes better.

I have porridge every single morning. I usually buy Oat So Simple but now I'm tempted to buy the bigger bags/packs.

I vary my toppings but my favourites are apple with sultanas and cinnamon; blueberries; mixed berries; prunes.

My mother used to add salt. I think it probably does add to the flavour and is probably why mine doesn't taste as good as I remember my mother's tasting but I have to watch my salt intake.

Breakfast of the gods!!

I use a small local brand called Stoats that I get at the farmers market. A little sprinkle of sugar and then some cold milk poured on top. Fresh berries too occasionally.

They also do porridge bars with various flavours which are handy for work. The one with goji berries and flax seeds are amazing.

I now use Wiltshire Farm Foods for most, ifnot all, of my food;btu I did use Stoats via online/mail-order through Epicurium/Jolly Gourmand. Used to get cases of the instant Stoats porridge.

I now use the frozen pots that WFF supply...

Occasionally yes, but only at the weekends; I use Quaker oats. I like to soak the oats in milk first 30 minutes or so before cooking, the oats seem to be a lot creamier when I do that.

I just buy a large bag of value branded Tesco or Asda oats as I don't think there's much difference (if any) between those and the branded bags of oats.
1x small espresso type mug of oats, 1x water, 1x milk then microwave for 2 mins, take out and stir, then microwave for 30 seconds.
Take out and stir, add flavouring then enjoy.
