Were you expecting a massive departure from the usual Doctor Who theme? Also, when I listened to it, I noticed several differences, namely, when the names pop up on screen, the theme sounds more haunting than it has done since the relaunch in 2005.

And really? The title sequence hasnt been revamped? It looks totally different to anything we've seen since 2005, since they arent based around the TARDIS flying through the vortex this time.

The title sequence is different, but the theme tune can hardly be heard of as differing from the previous. Just little nuances, in the same way that the original version was replaced with a new, but same style back in 1967.

As a graphic designer I like to think I notice small details, especially graphic / visual elements. You're right they are practically identical. How hoodwinked do I feel now?

Well, I'm not a musician, and to me it has been altered, slightly rearranged (aka a new arrangement of the basic theme), so to me it fits the generally accepted definition of a revamp. And even the BBC say that it is revamped.

So that's good enough for me.

If you're a musician, then surely you heard that the differences in instruments outnumbered the similarities? As a singer, I heard it immediately.

If you can't hear it yet, I think you should seek out good quality recordings of the two and listen - otherwise I'd be worried about your hearing (not a dig - they really are two very different themes on the same thing).

The theme tune is more or less the same, but there are a few subtle differences such as the complete removal of the sequence dubbed "the chase" and the addition of some more retro sounding bits.
