Is there any reason you're not liking Countryfile as much? I don't think it's changed in any way and I'm preferring it now it doesn't have a barely-engaged Julia (since maternity leave she didn't seem that into the show so I'm preferring Ellie).

On the 6th of May the guests on The One Show were the fabulous Penn & Teller (who obviously didn’t say much ). Penn made up for that being engaging and fun in his usual way (they’re both smart guys)

Hi KK, it’s nothing to do with Julia or Ellie. As for co-presenting CF with Matt, I don’t have a particular choice/preference at all. They don’t have any influences on me. I’ve seen Matt and Julia, Matt and Ellie, Matt and John, Matt and Jules, Matt and James, Matt and Clare, Matt and Helen so far. I saw them worked well as a team so anyone of them would do. I understand that it’s not about individual thing so I appreciate the contributions of everyone including of those work behind the camera.

The problem is I am not a core fan of CF you see. I didn’t know the existence of Countryfile until Matt joined in 2009. The fact is that it was Matt and Matt alone introduced Countryfile and Secret Britain to me. Without him there is no way I’d have become a regular viewer of CF. I do like watching Matt plus the quality of the stories he covers on CF but lacking either I can be easily get bored, distracted and impatient. Supposed that I have to wait to see 5-6 mins of his first clip after 15 mins the program started and then again to wait for 5-6 mins of 2nd clip before the weather forecast, I’d have lost my interest in it. And I noted that the recent CF episodes appeared sticking to this format. Changes for the need of change or the changes for sake of change itself, I don’t really care. I know he can only dedicate to CF filming right after Thursdays OS heading to the CF locations with his backpack and work until Friday evenings but to watch him making 10-12 mins appearances in the middle of the program doesn’t appeal me to watch it live if this format doesn’t go anywhere. And I cannot be that patient. I prefer to do something else you see so I’d be happily catching up his clips on iplayer instead.

By the way, talking of Secret Bratian, there won’t be any SB2 that soon if we didn’t generate and share our ideas on here since 2012, dare I say.

On the other notes, I think Julia was brave and decisive making the right decision at the right time. Her move left open door, giving an opportunity to others like Ellie to take over so I admired her for that.

Pictures from today’s MAG European Championships highlights… seemed Matt’s shirt colour was to co-ordinate with that of Beth. Good to see Craig Heap joined them at the end. Fantastic results yet again for both senior and junior.

Matt’s calling Epke ‘the flying doctor’ now. Felt sorry for Fabian for the fall and but good to see Sam and Kristain got the chance to have won silver and bronze respectively. And I see GB men team is going to be spilt in Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Think Louis will be representing England. 2014 is a busy year for the British gymnasts and also for Matt as there will be World Championships in China in October.

Off all the evening you would have laid a bet the he would have been in a jumper or a jacket, he goes without.
He did look good, lovely shirt with plenty of wow's and a very stubbly matt. The domino thing was good, nearly all off them went over.

How scary for chris to have a stroke on a plane flying back to the uk. Good to see that he is well now.

Surprisingly, top 2nd button was undone as well. I am not a Bruce fan but he is a warm-hearted chatterbox... With more than 300 hours of network coverage over 11 days of world-class sporting action, the BBC brings unrivalled access of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and integrated Para-sports programme to television audiences.

Beginning with the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 23 July, Huw Edwards and Hazel Irvine will bring live commentary from Celtic Park on BBC One and BBC One HD as the Games festivities get underway.

Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, Hazel Irvine will lead the daily coverage across BBC One and BBC One HD. They are joined by a team of expert commentators and former Olympic champions including, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Michael Johnson, Rebecca Adlington, Denise Lewis, Beth Tweddle, Sir Chris Hoy, Paula Radcliffe and Jonathan Davies.

From Thursday 24 July and for the duration of the competition, early morning viewers will wake up to BBC Breakfast live from studio on the banks of the River Clyde on BBC One and BBC One HD. Mishal Husain then presents the morning action from 09:00-12:00, guiding viewers across the city to the many iconic venues being used for the numerous sporting events.

As the live action continues, Jason Mohammad presents the early afternoon coverage from 12:00–15:00 followed by Hazel Irvine, 15:00–19:00. They will be joined by fellow presenters, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, Matt Baker, John Inverdale and Jonathan Edwards, live from various locations and bringing all the latest news and action across Swimming, Athletics, Gymnastics, Boxing and Cycling.

Gary Lineker welcomes viewers to the evening show where he will discuss the day’s activity and leading news stories between 19:00 and 22:30 before Mark Chapman and Clare Balding bring together all the daily sport and late night events with ‘Today at the Games’ from 22:40–23:40. The Highlights programme will also be available to watch again on BBC iPlayer for up to a week after broadcast.

Over on BBC Three and BBC Three HD a combination of Dougie Vipond, Lee McKenzie and Manish Bhasin will welcome morning viewers from 09:00 and take them through the afternoon up to 19:00. Dan Walker will anchor the channel in the evening between 19:00-22:00 bringing all the days reaction and discussion as the drama unfolds.

On the 11th of May Countryfile came from Lee (or Leigh - it’s spelled both ways) Valley. This is an area referred to as London’s Green Lung. Matt got to hang out with an Italian family who moved to the area post-war and now have a large consortium growing fruit and veg. In what I’m sure was a terrible hardship for him this involved him tasting some of the food

He also got to mess around with the white water settings as Ellie was attempting the canoe slalom on the Olympic course…

Pics from tonight CF in Buckinghamshire, I almost switched off my telly as I have started losing interest in watching CF live since last 2 weeks but Matt’s soft tone of voice drew my full attention on the program. That's what I'd see him contributing as a key presenter not the hybrid one - not a presenter nor a participant. That's worth my time to watch it live.

I know Eric the highlands bull has a lovely son and daughters. Is his son not fit or that useful? And in a couple of occasions I noticed Matt’s sort of sharing the same or the similar shirts and jumpers with Adam. How comes that happen? I guess these might be promotional outfits for CF presenters or are those buy-one-get-one-free offers?

By the way has anyone had a chance to listen to this radio interview with Matt a week ago? I missed that. I don't know where to look at anyway.

Evening all

Lovely start to cf , matt looked fab in his checked shirt, it was warm enough for rolled up sleeves and unbuttonage, the house at waddesdon manor looks great.
Adam's got a new ginger animal for his farm, nice to know that eric at his sisters farm.

Emma I really have to disagree with you on Countryfile. You seem to being rather dramatic about Matt's presence and participation in the show. Yes, for the previous couple of weeks Ellie did the introductory voiceover but that's hardly new or different. Ellie, Julia and Helen have all previously performed this role. In fact from 2010-2012 you could pretty much guarantee Matt and Julia would swap the role week by week - it's only fair as Matt is hardly the only presenter on the show and he's not the one who dedicates the most time to it. Depending on what else he's got on that week he may not have the time to do as much voiceover work and if he has to travel long distances during filming he won't be on screen as much.

Matt loves Countryfile - that much is obvious or he'd have moved on by now. It's his choice to only film one day on the show (he could quit The One Show or give up Saturdays to film more...) so he's never going to be the key presenter - he's at best one of the two lead presenters. And I think the show do a remarkable job of giving him as much time as they can - more on average than his filming availability should allow for.

I think if you don't like watching Countryfile for the programme itself then you probably shouldn't watch live. You're inevitably going to be disappointed because Matt is never going to be on the screen most of the time - or even more than a quarter of the time.

Not sure Aliona gets much of a mention on here now, but she is returning for this years season of SCD
