As for tonight....The One Show went with a swing I thought, Dermot O'L was a really good guest, happily going along with the madness. What a shame the programme seemed to finish too soon Matt looked very wonderful in his dark blue denim shirt and tan chinos, stubblicious indeed A marvellous start to the week.

Yes, I've been watching the Penguin prog Emma. A delightful study of these fascinating creatures but, as you say, would have been enhanced by the dulcet tones of El Presidente

By the way, I looked at my Olympic Games DVDs again and I see that there are 5 discs (not 7!) They comprise:
Disc 1: Opening Ceremony Part 1
Disc 2: Opening Ceremony Part 2/Sporting Highlights Part 1 (Days 1-6)
Disc 3: Sporting Highlights Part 2 (Days 7-10) + Extra Sporting Moments
Disc 4: Sporting Highlights Part 3 (Days 11-16) That's the one I've seen
Disc 5: Closing Ceremony

Apparently that's 7 hours' worth of Olympic coverage - I'm not sure when I'm going to have the time to watch it all

Surprisingly low rating for the show last night The One Show - 3,771,200 (17.4%). That's over 3% down on it's normal audience and I'm not sure why. The FA cup started at 7:30pm so the warm up could have stolen some viewers, or possibly the Top Gear repeat as the Sunday show had less viewers than normal...

Pity as it was a good show.

Well doe to you regular aides for keeping it going I aspect last nights lowish rating is down to exactly what happened to Stargazer who had switched over to another channel because local news wasn't on. It's what happened to my mum and dad as well!

You could be right. So my idea that they should have just started The One Show at 6:30pm instead of the regional news would have been a great one

No, it was a one day strike by the journalist's union about some redundancies.

You had some idiots online insisting that people like Matt & Alex should have refused to work too - even though they're not journalists and not members of the same union... Some people just have no realism as they couldn't strike in sympathy even if they wanted to and given their fixed-term contract roles it wouldn't be sensible for their careers...

I did think that Alex in particular looked a bit more uptight than usual last night. Maybe there was an atmosphere in their working environment that was uncomfortable. I don't mean because they didn't strike (reasons for which you explain perfectly) but just the general feeling of malaise you get in an office when things are not the way they normally should be.

A lovely sunny day here, shame it's going to turn colder later in the week, it has been so nice to see the sun

A very good tos tonight, danny was a brilliant guest very talkative and chatty, did they drop a vt as danny was happily chatting away.

Great start to tos with them in a taxi drinking and eating dounuts, taking the mick out of bruce a happy bouncy matt, looking fab in his pinky coloured shirt, think he has had a mop chop trim, it's looking very tidy.

Hello all – Matt’s pink shirt and grey jacket combo seemed matching Alex’s floral dress. And I forgot how Danny DeVito looked until the OS showed a clip of the Twin movie clip and then I could recall him in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I liked Matt and Alex in a taxi taking about the Hollywood movie stars appeared on the OS in the opening credit. The VT about triplets was interesting. We don’t have triplets in the family but the twin aunties and the un-identical twin niece and nephew.

I didn’t know the BBC journalists were on strike yesterday. I thought it was quite strange. I saw Escape to the Country was on and the BBC Breakfast was to be aired at 8.30am when I switched on telly in the morning. When I came back from work there was no News at Six but the local news was on air instead and Fake Britain was next. I was really confused. If I didn’t check out the TV guide from the BBC website, I would have assumed the OS won’t be on and could have missed it.


Thanks SG, the contents of the DVDs are interesting. I have recorded the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and some of Matt stints mainly aired over the weekends but I still couldn’t manage to watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies again. I fall sleeps from half way through when I watched them live.

The penguins are cute creatures and the program is fascinating to watch but what a life they have. The predators can attack them and grab their eggs and chicks. It was funny though as a big bird grabbed the eggcam and flew away, and dropped it later. John and Jeff (the director and cameraman) said to Matt and Alex that their new project is the dolphins and would be aired in December so I look forward to their new project too.

It's the 23rd of January on The One Show with guest Jon Bon Jovi, who seemed slightly confused on occasion but was at least talkative .

Matt sadly didn't dress up in leather trousers like a rock god, but was instead wearing a rather baggy (for Matt) dark spotted shirt, and jeans

My mouth is slowly defreezing after my first root canal work done today and it was slightly less expensive than I was led to believe......I won't mention it to the dentist

Birds of a Feather actors on tonight on the OS, think there's a new series planned or something. Probably not the best move!

It's very rarely a good idea to ressurect something from the past. I liked Birds of a Feather in its day, but - can't they think of anything new?

I've been to the hygienist and been told by dentist that I must call the dental surgeon and do something about tooth that needs removing. Wisdom tooth is underneath it so don't know if that needs to come out as well or not. All very complicated. I told the dentist it was a mistake to have told me it wasn't urgent!

Glad your dental work is progressing SG. I thought the NHS paid for all that in the UK. Does it not?

Hello all - Matt's in his old nice fitting blue shirt, looking slim, hot and lovely. And I am wondering whether his spacehopper training for SR cut down his little pie-belly. I always find Jamie's VT fascinating and that the world largest 360 degree panoramic image is incredible work of team of photographers. I’ve never seen anything like this. And what a lovely way to end the show…Great pictures of Matt and Alex…baby Matthew looks so cute, so cuddly, and so cheerful and cheeky smile on his face…Just adorable. They haven't changed at all but I do think the OS should have updated Matt and Alex profile pictures.

Lots of good chat with the BOAF ladies, thought they'd be an extrovert bunch and they didn't disappoint! Makes such a difference when the guests enter into the spirit of the wacky prog and Matt was suitably tiggery what with three feisty ladies on the sofa. His shirt was exactly the right fit to allow some superb wows which added to the general fun......

Your toothy problems do indeed sound rather complicated Rita - hope you didn't suffer too much today. It appears that your visits to the dentist may increase once they've decided what needs to be done As my dentist is a private one, that's why I have to pay rather more than if I had an NHS one, Rita. Even if you are fortunate enough to have an NHS dentist (and it's very difficult to get placed with one nowadays) there's still a cost involved for treatment. Private dentists are more flexible with appointments and the one I go to has all the state-of-the-art equipment - I like to think she'll hurt me less

Anyway back to the main man, we've concluded he's looking very slimline these days. Could it be he's been practising his hoppering or could he be training for something more arduous for Comic Relief.....time will tell

Grandsonminding duties are nearly over for the week Lotus - at the moment it's back to Mum as she's had a heart monitor fitted today and I've got to whizz it back to the surgery tomorrow after my Keep Fit....never let it be said that Senior Citizens have quiet and ordered lives

Rating for last night's programme The One Show - 4,199,518 (18.6%) - so that's about 4.2m which is pretty good going for a Wednesday show

Not a bad rating at all for Wednesday

Last night's show was great fun and Matt looked and was adorable. Would like to have heard a bit more from Pauline Quirke who I think is the most talented of the three, but boy Linda can talk can't she! And Lesley is not far behind.

I won't be able to watch live tonight - family coming round for dinner. Do we know who the guest is? Was it mentioned last night? Anyway, I'm hoping to catch up later tonight. Everyone except me has work tomorrow so they shouldn't stay too late with any luck.

The guest tonight is the chef James Martin talking about NHS food (again! Maybe he's done more work on it since his last visit )

The pictures of Matt and Alex growing up were interesting. Both of them have definitely grown into their looks as they've got older. Thought the picture of Matt at about 5 was interesting - Luke looks so much like him. And Matt was looking a bit red-headed in the picture too . And as was spotted on twitter by the time of the next picture (about 9/10) Matt had already broken his nose...

I've given up on Matt's shirts. This one is not as bad as some. I do like the longer hair though and lots of stubble

So maybe the nose was never broken! I had a slightly crooked nose once and got it straightened by breaking it (accidentally). Fell of the back of a routemaster bus that braked suddenly and crashed into a concrete lampost. Woke up in hospital where nose had already been fixed - they didn't know it was meant to be crooked I guess

Would it be possible to get those childhood pics when you get around to picspamming that show? I hadn't noticed the resemblance to Luke and would like to have a look. Last time I saw him on TV I was thinking he looked more like his mother.

They'd just been watching a link on the TV so he was looking that way as they came back to them


Emma has already posted those pictures a bit up the thread. Luke has his mother's darker eyes but the hair and face is very Matt. And the Bakerettes who've seen them in the flesh say that Luke looks like a successful experiment in human cloning It does help that Matt and Nicola do have similar facial features though

As for the nose - we know Matt has broken it at least once (Mongolian Wrestling) but it was already crooked before then. I meant there's a difference in his nose shape between 5 and 9 that indicates it was probably broken in childhood (I vaguely remember him talking about it once, not sure when though...)
