I too thought the climbing/abseiling seemed a bit samey, and having watched it last night - it was. I'd quite like Matt to move away from the activities a bit and do more investigative reports of a longer duration. But, 7.1 million viewers last night - can't argue with that!

Petula Clark is on The One Show tonight. I haven't heard anything about her for years and years and years. In fact, younger readers probably won't have heard of her at all

She used to live just down the road from me in Geneva. Don't know if she still has a flat here or not. Same with Sophia Loren who lives (or lived) on the corner of my street. Never saw either of them though.

Whilst ultimately I'd like Matt to get to do longer and more investigative reports I don't think he can commit enough hours to filming for that to be possible. I suspect it's much easier to fit in this type of report and I think he still enjoys the active stuff so I'm not surprised he wants to continue doing that whilst he's physically capable.

The longer reportage for Matt works best when he's on a journey of some kind as then the travelling required fits nicely into the filming plan and isn't just wasted time.

The percentage share for that Countryfile rating was 7.11m (28.5%). So as well as being a good rating it was also a really good audience share

One Show this evening - wonder if Alex will manage to stay awake for the show given she was on Radio 2 from 2am-5am this morning!

We've had this conversation before, haven't we? And you are right, of course. I'm saying what I would like to see without taking into account the possible.

By the way, kk, I liked your posts in the main thread about CountryFile presenters. An intelligent, considered response to people making (let's face it) often daft comments.

Fabulous viewing figures for CF last night, thanks for the info KK! We put it down to the 'Matt' effect - or it could be that the GBP are becoming disenchanted with DOI. I like to think it's the former

Petula C was in the paper recently - can't remember whether it was because she's making a comeback? She is even older than me so it'll be interesting to see how the years have treated her....... She'll have lots of anecdotes as she's lived an exciting and action-packed life.......

Twas kind of Alex to volunteer (?) to do the graveyard shift on the wireless Brings to mind the one and only Alan Partridge (aka Steve Coogan) and his stint on Radio Norfolk! I'm positive AJ probably made a better job of it but poor girl will need to keep going until 7.28 tonight, do some prep for her 2am start and then have a wee kip If she's just doing Monday's and Friday's One Shows, I wonder who they'll bring in for the other three? I like to know these things.....

Great rating for cf, they did beat DOI by quite a few viewers. The beeb should be happy with that.

A good tos tonight, a lovely chat with petula, she's doing great at 81 and her singing voice isn't to bad, i have to say that i don't know her at all for any her films/ singing, have heard of downtown tho. Don't think i'll be getting her album

Matt looked good, think he may have been at the razor over the weekend not much stubble, a happy bouncy matt tonight, Alex did love the coco jackets looked as she would of happily run of with one

Have to catch up from last night si have had time to watch the dangly bits - was otherwise engaged for OHs birthday celebrations with the family.

DOI doesnt seem to catch the public imagination in the same way as SCDwhich surprises me as its is a tad more dangerous and needs a lot of courage to whizzz around with razorblades on your feet, Still some prople like to live dangerously as we know CF seems to have become an intergral part of Sun night viewing and the audience share seems to be growing

PC tonight was a very lively and entertaining guest - wish she had been on the hour long T1S. Seemed to engage well and has had a wonderful, eventful life with lots on anecdotes. Both MB and AJ seemed quite "starstruck" in her prescence. Pity she had to be cut of at the end when your time is up .......

It's The One Show on the 30th of January with guests Martin Clunes and Brenda Blethyn. We also had Alistair McGowan on to talk about the north-east accent including an attempt to imitate Matt And we also had a genuinely funny game called "Dramatic Paws" where Martin & Brenda had to out-act a dog

We have a bonus clip at the start of the show featuring the previous day's outfit (as there was a competition that might have been closed when you watched it on iPlayer). On the show itself Matt was wearing a grey marl shirt (that isn't one of my favourites - it's the one he wore before the first Rickshaw Challenge when people thought he looked ill), with an unbuttoned cardigan and beige chinos.

A fleeting visit just to say it was a lovely One Show to kick off the week, Petula was indeed a good guest and there was a relaxed vibe to the programme. Sue Perkins is on tomorrow but there's some doubt as to whether she will be co-hosting or will be the guest All will be revealed at 6.58!

Alex didn't look too worn out but as the week goes on she'll be thinking, what on earth am I doing, starting work at 2 o'clock in the morning Matt of course looked wonderful in his dark blue cardi with the stripes on the back which he has worn before....it's quite distinctive. He does love a good cardi.

Thanks for the latest pics KK.....will peruse them tomorrow. As you say it's not the best shirt, very uninteresting....the cardi jazzes it up a little (but not much!) Still Matt's face is always worthy of our focus and I shall concentrate on that

Hi . Popping by to give a ratings update for The One Show 4.55m (no percentage yet).

Gabby Logan is guest hosting alongside Matt tonight with Sue Perkins as their guest. Given Gabby's last appearance on the show when she talked over the top of Matt and interrupted the flow of conversation I'd have preferred it if she wasn't there... I think Sue would have made a great guest host actually as she's funny and warm.

I like Sue Perkins too. I'd add intelligent to funny and warm. Gabby is too intense for my liking. Remember how annoyed she was at being voted off SCD? We weren't allowed to forget it for a long time. I saw her not too long ago on Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire. One of the questions was which famous author shared their name with a royal naval officer on board HMS Victory when Nelson died - Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and two others that I can't remember. She didn't know the answer so did "ask the audience". When 99% of the audience chose Thomas Hardy her attitude was that they must have a very intelligent audience that night. It never occurred to her that there was a well known piece of knowledge that she herself just didn't happen to know.

Evening all

A dull grey grotty day, that only brightened up to a lighter shade of dark grey for a hour mid morning before returning to dark grey.

So it was very nice to see a bright cheery matt on tos, looking fab in his pink jumper and jeans a very bouncy matt tonight, thimk he enjoy having sue on.

Sue was a great guest chatty and funny, joining in with it all and getting tea cakes with strange flavours in them bet that one thing matt didn't try and eat

Again we were fortunate enough to have another great OS yesterday, Gabby let everyone speak this time and Sue P was a delightful guest and joined in the randomness that is The One Show Those teacakes looked fine on the outside but Sue's face when she bit into one and found it disgusting was an absolute picture! And how lovely to hear Mike D's news....becoming the proud father of a bouncing baby boy! He looked 'over the moon' and it brought a lot happiness to the programme Think we've all become very fond of Mr D over the last couple of years and he's now part of the furniture of the show, in fact it would be better if he replaced the evil sofa
