Afternoon.....a quiet day on the Matt front

Disappointingly the article (in the DM today) about Pr*nce C guest editing the CF edition to be shown on 10 March failed to feature a picture of Mr B. The photo showed him with Julia and John all laughing, but not a glimpse of our man But of course we know he's there lurking

Would have brightened up my day no end if the piccie had shown El Presidente with El Prince - although, of course, our kind KK has provided the evidence of their meeting I'm sure the women of our nation would have preferred viewing luscious Matt on opening their Saturday paper.

I'm off partying (a la 80s style ) this evening, I shall be the oldest Kim 'kids in america' Wilde lookalike the world has ever seen.....hope no-one takes a photograph. This could turn out to be a bit of a strange night......none stranger than me

Will be in the vicinity of CF tomorrow night - meeting up with my friend, lunching, and putting the world to rights. No hope

Hello Fatskia. Nice to see you on this thread, and thanks for posting this link Wasn't it just fantastic! I think it was the ending of this dance that had me smitten permanently!

That dance is still just amazing. So funny to look back at that time now because Matt was so uncertain about the whole "sexier" image He didn't like the stubble and wanted to shave it off...

Times really change

Matt is someone I found a lot to admire in. I've never seen anyone with such a combination of work ethic, honesty, loyalty, modesty, humour, standards, adventurous, ambitious, caring etc. He was also someone who learned fast and was good at just about anything. Aliona tried to see if he would break in the week before the Quickstep and found that he was unbreakable, so she knew then that she could push him to levels very few men could take.

You can see in that Foxtrot, Matt winces once when he made some slight mistake that I couldn't see. I think though he was very good, he would have got to an even higher level (especially in his Latin) with no jobs and travelling to do and consequently more training time.

That Foxtrot was the dance where Alesha said she didn't think Matt could 'do' sexy but he had just proved her wrong. I remember Aliona saying she just needed to bring out the sexy beast in him and they would be good to go. I must admit I didn't expect Matt to be as popular as he became with the female audience.

I think only their fans really understood how difficult it was for Matt and Aliona to put together the training times in places all over the country and how ill they were the week before the final. I didn't see them on Tour but it looked like they were born to tour, with Matt's showmanship skills coming to the fore.

To me they are still the couple with the most 'magic' that I have seen on Strictly and I like that they both didn't hold back but went for a different way of doing the show.

I had the privilege of seeing Matt & Aliona on tour 3 times and you are spot on in saying he was born to tour and his showmanship did indeed come to the fore. He had that special way of connecting with an audience, even in a venue the size of the O2, and I have never heard an audience reaction (to their samba) as amazing as the one I witnessed at the LG arena. I thought the roof was going to come off and the floor give way. I don't think the judges had seen a reaction like it either ... they looked totally amazed!

He's a born performer and I hope one day he will take on another 'performance' role ... whatever that may look like...whether musical theatre, straight acting or another TV 'Talent' show....'Dancing on Ice' anyone?

Moving on to the 6th of February on The One Show and the first guest was Bruce Willis - and they really did have to "Try Hard" with that interview. Bruce has subsequently said he was jet-lagged which goes some way to explaining why it didn't work. Half way through the show he was replaced by Adam Hills and Zoe Tapper - Adam in particular was a much more engaging guest.

Matt was wearing a blue shirt and navy trousers - except when posing for a Die Hard poster in which case it was dirty vest & biceps (And Matt admitted he used to play Die Hard as a kid )

I too had the privilege of seeimg them at the 02 and they were truly amazing. The anticipation was palpable and the cheer that went up as soon as those hips went into action - say no more. Althought I loved the Samba (still the best ever for me) the stubble and the sheer arrogance of the choreography for dance numero uno still makes me timbers shiver. Big big sigh. Them were the days. A lovely cf tonight, good rowing action from matt to start of the show. and got stuck in with some tree chopping and gardening at cragside. A beautiful looking house
Matt looked fab in his blue jumper and furry jacket. The end of show met up with julia he calls her jules Don't think he has a strong accent at all.

Missed the last 15 mins Phone rang just as MB 2 arrived in the garden. Oh well at least I have i player so all is not lost and I missed first 10 mins of Midwife as well.

Just wish the camera action had been on the oarsman and not on the passenger in MB1

I think Matt is actually a bit under-used in the roles he is doing now, but doing a good job.
I'm not sure what would be the ideal role for him. Maybe something where he took on various roles, as he is a very quick learner and good at nearly everything. I dont think there is such a program at the moment. Maybe an action hero series for children that could be sold around the world that had animals involved quite often?

Evening all Yes, thoroughly agree with you Lotus about the cameraperson focussing on the wrong man in the boat. We all adore Matt's nape but a little shot of the front of his face wouldn't have gone amiss.....perhaps the usual camera(woman) was ill - she knows what we like Still it was a lovely CF, lots of interesting topics and Matt looked adorable in his blue cable sweater.

Bit tired tonight after very lovely weekend....my outfit at the 80s party last night was very much admired SkyBlue particularly my lacy fingerless gloves which were vintage 80s which I had found at the back of the wardrobe. Knew there was a reason why I had kept them for 30 years We chatted with friends, had free wine (lots!) and there was dancing and general joyfulness - it was great to be 30 again (who am I kidding )

So it's OS tomorrow - how the weeks rush by Looking forward to 2 hours (well 4 including the repeats) of Mattiness this week. When people say Matt's always on the telly it's not exactly true, I wish it was more

Yes the Tango had a special place like the Samba. Matt was at his most emotional and you can see that Aliona was always looking at him ready to support him. As always, Matt delivered when under the greatest pressure and strain and it was only when they were in the corridor afterward that he let it show just how much emotion he felt and Aliona stepped in front of him to shield him.

In this preamble the judges do recognise what a good actor Matt is, but although they are slightly right that Matt looked a bit serious in some dances, they more often just didn't understand the dance - like in the AS where Matt understood the dance completely and delivered the emotions required perfectly, but the judges misunderstood it.

That moment when Aliona stepped in front of Matt to shield him from the camera is one of my strongest memories from SCD. I will always love her for that. She was great. And wasn't Matt amazing to be able to be able to perform like that after the previous slating from the judges. Truly professional. I notice here Len says although he doesn't like the acrobatics he has to admit its clever - wish he'd said that when he was giving his comments and scores - just once at least, instead of deriding it as "backflips". But there we are. It's all in the past now and we've moved on - sort of.

I think Matt is now solidly established as a BBC presenter (and one of their most valuable) so it would be difficult for him to fill any other role with them, and he'd probably have to move away from the BBC to do anything else. From everything I've read and heard about him, his family comes first with him every time, so for the moment I would imagine he's quite happy with the routine he has, even if he's only using about 10% of his talent. Still, I'm sure he must dream of doing other things. Maybe one day

Matt is a firmly established "factual entertainment" presenter for the BBC. I don't believe going back to children's TV would be a sensible move because nowadays that's very much a niche audience (not on BBC1) and it's where people start their careers - not for established presenters.

Ultimately (and I've said this many times ) - I'd like to see Matt get his own show along the lines of the work he did on Open Country to make use of his interviewing skills and ability to lead a show. I believe he'd also like to do some Saturday evening style light entertainment presenting (Strictly? ) as that can lead towards stage work which I think he'd like to do as well.


See... I don't agree about the cameraperson. As much as we like Matt I think in that scenario it was entirely appropriate to focus on the person being interviewed and not Matt. Because of the size of the boat the camera could only focus on one person and it would be really wrong to focus on the interviewer rather than the interviewee. I'm sure Matt would have approved of the way it was filmed

Maggie Philbin on The One Show tonight. Don't know her I'm afraid. Presenter of Bang Goes the Theory which I've never watched - yet.

Maggie Philbin is a TV science presenter who started out on Tomorrow's World. With Dallas Campbell having left Bang Goes The Theory Maggie is joining the programme. I think she might be bit staid for the show as it tends to be targeted at a younger / trendier audience but I suppose that might be the point to try and broaden the appeal of the show.

Maggie has also appeared on The One Show a couple of times doing reports I think...

I always say I've never met a boring person, everyone has something to offer, but BW comes as close as anyone has to making me change my mind. He didn't have much time to spare and was gone early which was just as well. Perhaps he is better when he's not being himself - i.e. when he's acting. No one ever said actors had to be interesting people after all, they just have to be able to act.

I like this shirt on Matt. He was looking particularly handsome that night which went a long way to making up for guest's jet lag or whatever. I'm so glad he's mostly keeping the stubble these days. Now if only we could convince him not to have the short back and sides too often

Hellaw all. Maggie Philbin of Multi Coloured Swop Shop fame on tonight - my Saturday morning viewing when my kids were young She deserves all our sympathies as she was once married to Ch*ggars....well I suppose someone had to Never seen Bang Goes The Theory unfortunately but 'Tomorrow's World' was my era (with Raymond Baxter) a very popular programme....twas very upright and proper and peeps would probably take the mickey out of it now. But that was then and part of my television experience over the years

Haven't viewed CF again....will have to wait til tomorrow as I've lots of progs to catch up on from the weekend. So little time.......

Ooh, sorry Rita! Keith Chegwin (known as Cheggars) he was on children's telly all the time in the 80s. He was very popular then. As the years went by he rather faded from tv and then popped up, sans habille, on a dodgy Channel 4 quiz show. Still, we all make mistakes Have you heard of him?

He's been on DOI this year of course and although I didn't watch it much, apparently he was fairly good.....better than people expected!

Matt looked great tonight, a lovely dark red cardie and snug fitting trews, good close ups tonight showing a nice dusting of stubble.
