Evening all

Lots of picspams to catch up on and lots of posts to read. Havent been around too much recently as OH is havingl tests. He hasnt been too well of late.
Am still trying to come down to earthe after the wonderful exhibition by Lord of the Dance on Friday - sheer class and so many positive comments. Hope we dont have to wait too long for the next one

Well Ellie and Sheila were charming ladies tonight. A lovely esygoing feel to the show.

CF was interesting if a little on the damp side.Really thought they were going to get lost in the mist.

Emma = those Cha Cha piccies - what memories. I can still hear the gasp from the crowd as started. IMO the best opening dance of anyone - ever

Evening

A good tos tonight, sheila is just a little bit bonkers, but good fun, ellie was nice, she could have asked matt to join her at the pool on the big swim and show off his swimming skills

Matt was looking very smart tonight, we haven't seen a tie for some time, a nice snug red jumper and stubble. Sounds like everything is ok at the farm and the sheep are safe and sound

Lotus hope your OH is ok

Thank you so much for linking to this Brilliant to see behind the scenes and it just shows Matt doing a great job as they were completing a lot of that routine in one go - great coordination.

It's the 27th of February and Matt's co-presenter is Zoe Ball. The guests are Kirstie Allsopp and David Essex. And we discover that Matt played Oberon in a Midsummer Night's Dream when he was 16 in (as Zoe says) "a pair of leaf pants and no top" (She then goes on to say that they did try really hard to find photographs and that he'd been performing the role all afternoon)

Matt is wearing a very nicely unbuttoned blue shirt and burgundy chinos.

Probably not the best colour combination, but I like it somehow, and anyway what could you put with those trousers. Love the shirt.

Hi Rita,

I don't often watch the one show so missed the dance. I saw a photo of Matt on a walkway with the white suit looking like he was doing a Michael Buble impersonation and found the video when I was finding out what he was up to.

Seems Matt was maybe working with Arlene, (who he never met as a judge) but I noticed she put in a step sequence that Matt danced twice in the Quickstep and once in the Charleston, so a little bit of a connection to Strictly there. Clever of Aliona to use it 3 times when they were short of training time.

Hi fatskia - if you haven't seen it, the dance and rehearsal footage was on Friday's show. If you want to see the whole thing I can PM you a link .

It's a recreation of a world record tap dance from 1977 which was performed by Roy Castle. Matt did a great job that could have only been bettered if he'd started it by singing 42nd Street (as Roy did)

The step sequence is actually in the original 42nd Street tap routine so Aliona was reusing a classic element of the quickstep/charleston on Strictly which did make sense given their timing issues .

Thank you so much for posting this little video link, fatskia. It’s like you have found a missing piece of a huge jigsaw puzzle – the whole tap-dancing. They danced to the 42nd Street so the music does remind me of Matt and Aliona dancing the Charleston. I really like Aliona let Matt to do little solo tap-dancing in their Quickstep only in week 3.

I like your description Lotus – Lord of the Dance. Yeah, hopefully he let this momentum goes so we don’t have to wait for too long.

They were the unstoppable team right from the start. They seemed they couldn’t believe the reaction of the studio audiences.

Thanks all,

I had a look at the tap dance before it disappeared from iPlayer. A good show and you could see that it had to be sync'd in 4 hours when 600 people all arrived for the only time.

Steve Backshall is one of the celebs I would like to see on Strictly with Aliona. He broke his back after falling from a cliff in 2008 and may still be having ops on it but he seems to have recovered quite well.

Many thanks for link Fatskia - just gives it another dimension. I really think he did a superb job recreating the atmosphere of the tap dance. Roy Castle was a wonderful entertainer - a true homage to him

Evening all – I don’t know why there is no local new this evening. I almost switched of telly when I saw Fake Britain before the OS. Matt’s side-parting his hair tonight. Phil and Sister Wendy’s art VT is always interesting to watch.

Is Matt free from CF filming tomorrow cos’ it’s Good Friday? He probably gets a day off.

We would then probably see the Deadly Mission tribute Cha Cha Cha opening sequences or the Backshall box of beasties inspired movie themed or Halloween Special on strictly. Aliona is very good at that, as you know. Only joking.

I know very little about Steve so didn’t know about his injury. He looks fit and well though old injury can flair up again, you’d never know.

And I know quite a lot about Matt but I didn’t know he broke 2 ribs and dislocated his shoulder when he did show jumping on the Sport Relief Challenge Only Fools on Horses. He reached the final. He would have beaten Jenny and won it if he got no injuries. We knew it years later. And all the Countryfile viewers witnessed to a scene when his horse suddenly got spook and throw him from its back. He got a fractured back as he landed on it but he just said to the camera that the body protector he wore was worth wearing and pointed out where the horse was and thought it was fine. We only found it out just before his rickshaw challenge in 2011 cos Alex mentioned his fractured back in a VT.

Thats quite an achievement for Matt to be able to perform with those injuries and no-one notices. I hadn't heard of that but it fits.

A Halloween tune for Steve?

Hello. Quiet on here at the moment.

I see we have a One Show on Easter Monday, which is nice for us but a bit of a shame for Matt - and Alex of course. I suppose they get time off to compensate but it's not the same as being to spend a long Easter weekend with the family, is it.

I like your music for Steve, Fatskia. I didn't used to like him very much - don't really like the idea of these sensationalist type programmes on animals. I'm warming to him more and more each time I see him though. I think he's someone who really does like animals and would probably prefer to do programmes with a more traditional approach if given the chance. He has a lovely smile And yes, I think he'd be a great candidate for SCD.

I'm still hoping to see Roger Federer do it one day but I doubt that will happen. He already dances when he plays tennis

Many of us may be still in the state of thud, the effect of the fabulous tap-dancing man in white suits + a pair of nice white shoes but who would have ever thought that Matt has so many hidden talents when we first saw him on the strictly, dancing the Cha Cha Cha with Aliona on week one. He really took me by surprise. The couples had to perform either a Waltz or a Cha Cha Cha and Matt's initial idea (according to his tweet) was waltzing 'the Unchanged Melody'.

To my knowledge, the launch show was on 11 Sept 2010 and the first live show aired on 1 Oct 2010. He got 3 weeks of CF full time filming. According to the Tatton Park blog, Matt visited Tatton Park orchard and the farm at the Cheshire countryside and Aliona was following him. That Cheshire CF episode was aired on 26 September 2010 and has already been repeated on a Countryfile clips show.

He already dances when he plays tennis”

Roger would be the first tennis player who could dance - maybe? I was very hopeful for Martina Hingis for the same reasons.

I'd class Steve with David Attenborough and Ray Mears and not one of the 'exaggerators' like Bear Grylls or Dominic Allen.
