Matt and Alex didn't get a lot out of Debbie and Chris - a bit like drawing hen's teeth

They did look bemused, wondering what parallel universe they had strolled into but it is The One Show after all

Matt was slightly overdressed in a dark jacket with peculiar patches on, covering up a rather wow-ful shirt. Just ditch the jackets and woollies MrB !!

Off to the wilds of North Norfolk, rainy tomorrow I understand but sunnyish on Sunday. Will miss the pole-climbing but of course will record it. Thank heavens for tecchie stuff!

Have to agree that the guests last night were a tad hard work (more than a tad actually) which was unfortunate as the rest of the week was really rather good. Maybe add them to the list of "please dont ask again"

Love the jackets meself but not the patches! A t shirt would be better mind

At this rate it'll be November before one appears

Onto the 9th of May on The One Show which came from the flight deck of HMS Illustrious - moored on the Thames at Greenwich - on the anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Eddie Izzard was the guest who did a great job of coping with not great weather conditions (wind & rain) and an even more random show than usual. Interestingly, on a rewatch, I think Matt's earpiece may have stopped working early on. In which case I think he coped really well with the show as that could have caused Jubilee flashbacks

Matt was wrapped up in a Countryfile style - navy quilted coat, flat cap, burgundy chinos, blue jumper, white shirt, and a tie (he'd skip the tie for Countryfile

Evening all

The weather been causing havoc with the tennis at queens, a lot of will they wont they get andy on today and when they did it was a chase the match around the channels

Great result for andy should be a good game if they can get on between the showers

The 12th of May saw the Countryfile team exploring the maritime history of Hampshire. This featured Matt exploring the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth and Butser Ancient Farm (to build a log boat - and yes, burning the middle with fire is the recognised building method as I saw that discussed the day this show aired at the Maritime Museum in Cornwall

Evening all

Didn't see all of cf as it ended up clashing with the tennis so was watching cf on silence on the laptop while watching the tennis, saw the last 5 mins properly with matt climbing the pole

he did really well, he looked great, looked like we had a good amount of mattage.

Will have to watch the rest in sound tomorrow

and the pole climbing again

Well done to Andy winning Queens he did it the hard way in 3 sets,

He had fun after with the charity match with tim and the celebs, they raised a great amount for Ross and the Royal marsden

Looked a tad apprehensive at first and then surprise surprise, didnt he do well!

AM Must be in a good mental frame of mind for Wimbledon now. Not big on sports myself but I love to see our people shine and what a good cause and everyone seems to have fun

Not bad rating for last night: Countryfile 4.93m (25% share). This made it the 3rd most watched show of the day (beaten by The White Queen and the evening news). And as is normal it comfortably beat The Antiques Roadshow which still gets the better viewing slot (that had 4.53m - 21% share)

Afternoon

Loved last night CF from the North Wales Woodfest… Definitely one of my favourites… Liked the check size of Ellie shirt but not a huge fan of big check…something similar to a picnic rug or a table cloth in my eyes…Nice combination of the colours though; matched really well with the jeans. And he looked lovely regardless but I’d prefer see him in white (one button undone) t-shirt instead. Little pot belly was forced to be pushed out when he was in the tight harness. Bless! Climbing up 80fts pole in 25 seconds was remarkable. Impressive! Such a quick learner! £ 110 for a bear, was it a bargain? Think he got a green light already from Nicola to buy it.

He looks cute in his hard hat, his eyes resemble those of his son; I mean the shape of the eyes, not the colour as it can be changed when people get a bit older.

Thanks KK. It was an interesting CF episode. When I heard Matt covering the story of Lord Nelson and the HMS Warriors, it made me believe that the song ‘Nelson Blood’ the Fishermen’s Friends sung on the One Show related to the fall of Lord Nelson.

Rating for last night's show The One Show 3.93m (21% share). And the "Long Lost Family" show they promoted last night did really well - getting 5.4m - which shows the benefit of The One Show in promoting other people's shows...

Tonight's guest could be tricky - Nick Ross has made some insensitive and rather stupid comments recently (I.e. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/h...Nick-Ross.html and http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...Nick-Ross.html). I wonder if they'll avoid discussion on the subjects?

Good ratings KK. Weather is a bit warm today, don't know in London though esp in the OS studio. He used to say he's cold-hand-warm-heart. I think cardi suits him and I like some of his but we won't really know why he needs one, would we? Would it because belly needs a cover

or he just loves it and feels cold?

Having conversations with tonight guest maybe tricky but they have done tricky ones already so I believe they would handle the show well. Anyway viewers might not like the guest so some might not like to tune in. So you see, Matt would need to dig out his polo shirt tonight.

Mostly grey and overcast here and thunder forecast or tomorrow, wonderful

Hadn't seen the comments nick had made very stupid of him.
They handled getting round the comment very well by saying they werent suitable for early evening viewing

Not a great show, nick was ok but on the other hand matt was looking great tonight. Bonus standing up at the start of the show, lovely blue jacket and white shirt with great wow's, some nice cross leg views and the razor is staying in the cupboard

Morning all. Seems like ages since I've been here, don't really know why.

Didn't Matt look amazing last night. Love the shabby jacket (linen I guess) and especially the wows! As you say Sky, Matt handled dealing with a potentially difficult guest absolutely perfectly. I was wondering how they would do it since you cannot invite someone on and then not talk about their show/book/album/whatever, but Matt managed to talk about it without talking about it. A truly masterful piece of presentation

As far as I can see criticism has been limited as well, which means people can't really find anything bad to say.

I'm out to dinner tonight so will miss the show and The Apprentice. I'll be catching up on iplayer tomorrow.

A good summer rating

I think The One Show does do well in advertising the guests wares. It's on at a time of day when many people may have it switched on but not really be watching unless something particularly catches their eye (I can't understand it myself, but apparently there are people who don't watch just for Matt

). I've often ended up watching and enjoying a programme myself that I would not have otherwise even noticed was on. I do think they need to rethink something on the show soon though instead of recycling the same old guests endlessly - often with the same old shows too. Or maybe it doesn't seem like that to people who don't watch all the time?

It depends how you’d define ‘a fan’, Rita. Only joking…. Tennis is one of the sports I enjoy watching most (I have so many interests but cricket is excluded even the bakercricket is emerging and seemed successful in the world of bakerettes.)

When I posted my message, I just read the headlines, not the contents of the news on the BBC website. I’d have known what was going on otherwise. I used to watch all grand slams with my family as we had sky. Now no sky available at my flat so no idea when and what sports are on telly. I managed to watch the third rounds on Sat & Sun a week before the finals on ITV 4. Saw Rafa beating Fabio 3 sets, Roger’s slip and fall after leading 1 set and a glimpse of Novak. I lost my concentration after seeing Roger’s fall. I was keen to watch the French Open cos I was hoping I’d see him in the final at least. But I was happy to see Rafa won making a history of winning 8 titles in a single slam.

Tennis has become like strictly to me cos it has reached its peaks. Strictly is no longer one of my great interests anymore though I still like watching tennis cos men are in great shapes wishing Matt in Roger and Rafa’s outfits hoping he’d keep his pot belly down. From my perspective, the greatest matches of all time were the Wimbledon finals between Roger and Rafa in 2007 & 2008 if I remember correctly. It has reached its highest peaks as strictly did in 2010 if you know what I mean. The games are still great to watch but not that epic and nail-biting as I saw in my life time. Bonus watching on BBC is the expert analysis from Boris and John or even Tim minus Andrew. His commentaries were bias and misleading as if Roger wasn’t good and fit enough at the Wimbledon last year which made me fad up with him. The women are not powerful players like the men so the games are not very exciting. I did like Amelie Mauresmo a lot though. She looked tough and strong like a man when she played; when she let her hair down and smiled she looked unbelievably lovely and girly.

Heehee… He actually did wear that grey suit at the YFC AGM awarding ceremony this year and here is the evidence the suit is still in one piece.

Yes, please please minus Andrew. Why the beeb employ him is beyond me. His commentaries are even worse than his tennis was, and that's hard to achieve! I tend to watch matches more on continental channels, just because of the beeb commentaries. Swiss and French I find are less biased, less partisan, and German I don't understand so I can just enjoy the match

The thing I dread most (as I'm sure do many non-British tennis players) is Sue Barker at Wimbledon. In her interviews with tennis greats she skips quickly through their achievements so she can ask the burning question - what do you think of Tim/Andy/whoever is current British favourite's chances? It's such an embarrassment. Anyway, Wimbledon is soon upon us again. I'm not expecting Roger to get to the finals, or maybe even the semi-finals, this year. Not the way he's been playing. I'm not really an Andy fan though I've been supporting him last week. I'm expecting, and would like to see, a Nadal/Djokovic final. I think tennis goes through phases. I'm older than you and remember watching Borg, McEnroe and Laver play. There were some truly classic matches there. It has its ups and downs. Anyway, enough about tennis (though in truth I could go on forever

). This is a Matt thread. If only we could look forward to watching him play at Wimbledon, eh? I can see the outfit in my mind already - thud!

22% is not bad at all

Saw the trailer for Man of Steel the other day. Looks good. I saw my first 3D film and wasn't impressed. The technology hasn't really changed since they first attempted it in the 1950s and I'd predict it won't last. Looks a bit like those pop-up cards where figures stand up when you open them. Still, it gives you something else to watch if the film is boring I suppose

For some reason Firefox has decided to start opening these pics in mobile photobucket! I don't know why. I was looking at another picspam earlier which worked fine and I've changed nothing since then. Means I can only see tiny pics again.

Never mind. I don't think there would be any I'd particularly like to mull over anyway. I really didn't like the way Matt was dressed for this event. Seemed inappropriate.
