Emma, thanks for the picture links. Love the one I've kept in the quote here - I linked to it on twitter. The dishevelled look with the undone shirt and scruffy tie is very nice. Also he has stubble which is really unusual for a picture this age. The overall impression is that Matt here looks more like himself now, than how he normally looked as a clean-cut Blue Peter presenter.

Moving on to The One Show on the 8th of July - the day after Andy Murray won Wimbledon. We start the show with Matt & Alex conducting an interview with Andy and attempting a few tennis shots. Alex's outfit wasn't entirely appropriate for the occasion…

Afternoon. Rehashing again I know, but it still rankles with me when I remember how people were accusing Matt of being petulant after their last dance (slammed by the judges) and the swingathon. They had something like 3 minutes between the two didn't he? He looked rushed and anxious, that's all.

Had a thudalicious late evening Mattfest and then proceeded to have very vivid dreams....don't know whether the two were connected

Agree with you SkyBlue that Matt does look as if the St Trop*z was slathered on maybe rather too generously but on the other hand, he does display a good tan in the summer so it might have been his 'summer' skin? Who knows?

Strange how the Beeb didn't bother about product placement (logo on Matt's polo) on that particular OS but were keen to cover it up when Matt was wearing the same garment on the Weston Super Mare Summer Festival Show

There are obviously special rules and regulations.....!!

Loved the CF ones, all completely wonderful, I'll need to have another look to decide which are my 'favourites'

This outfit looks much better if you don't catch site of the elbow patches I think. When you do see them you want to brush them away thinking "you've got something odd on your elbow there.

Gosh, don't his shoulders and arms look huge! I love this jacket on him. It's such a glorious blue and looks well cut. I like the stitching around the collar too. I know some people admire him wearing ordinary high street stuff, but I'm not averse to a little style myself. Someone will probably tell me that this IS ordinary high street. Well, maybe, but it looks good.

Difficult to say if the tan is natural or not. It seems to be what I think of as "Coronation St." tan - as the actors there often seem to be this sort of coffee colour. At any rate I like it

I was wondering if the sleeve buttons were deliberately 3 beige and 1 green, or if one fell off and the green was all he could get hold of, but in this pic the buttonhole seems to be green as well. Would love to see the left sleeve to see if it's the same. Odd detail if deliberate.

Ratings do seem to be downwards lately - even for summer. Not so much the number but the percentage. I wonder if people are getting fed up with the format, in spite of their efforts to try and change things, get away from the office a bit more. I must say I'm not sure I'd be watching it any more if it wasn't for Matt. Seems to often be rather silly to me, which wasn't the case in the past. Whether because it's changed or because it's become too familiar I don't know. At any rate I'm beginning to hope Matt moves on from there and does something different before too long.

CountryFile, on the other hand, just goes from strength to strength. He really is at his most at-home and comfortable there, where he really knows his stuff.

It is odd that the studio lighting made the shirt colour look different from being in natural light, looks better outside

First things first - Matt is not going to be wearing fake tan at this time of year. In a recent interview he commented on how he's always working outside shirtless if the weather is good. That tan looks entirely natural as you can see the slightly red bit on the back of his neck and the natural light/darker parts on his arms...

The jacket is High Street - it's from Zara. And the single button / buttonhole in an accent colour is a fairly common design detail nowadays. I think the country brand Joules popularised it - you can eat cardigans from them where every single button is completely different

I don't think The One Show ratings show any real downward trend - and I'm the one checking them every day

. You have to consider what else is on at the same time and Monday was lower than expected because we were just winning the Ashes (the match finished live at 7:40...). Every other day this week also featured live athletics. Against that I'd expect the rating share to be marginally lower and it still managed 19-20%. When Matt started on the show it was only managing 15-16% share...

I also don't think there's anything more silly about the show now than before. If anything, I think they've been covering some more serious subjects (disability rights, crimes, local issues) and a number of topics that then also turn up on Countryfile... I also think we have to understand that the jokey sketches and quizzes will often be Matt's ideas - they've only ever been used by the show since he joined!

And as Julia's attempt to find something to do shows - moving on to new shows is tricky. She has only Countryfile as a permanent role so seems to bee looking for added stability now she has a child. Matt has 2 young children's and is guaranteed 5 days work a week presenting shows with a cumulative audience reach of over 20 million. Most presenters would kill for that audience and the stable income it provides

I just watch back the original show with earphone on. I heard someone shouting ‘gooooooooooooooo Maaattttttttt’, unfortunately swing-a-thong music was very loud and the crowd’s going wild so you can hardly hear it. The accurate time Matt and Aliona had to change their dresses was 3 minutes and 39 seconds (from 48.12 to 51.51). No wonder the zip of Aliona’s dress became undone halfway and nobody mentioned it as no one saw it but I have the evidance!!

Actually it is tricky to judge the dance performed by Matt and Kara. You see, M & A were the last couple dancing salsa involving 3 lifts just before swing-a-thong. And then Matt as a leading man, he did the full lifts while Artem did half lifts but it was Artem running out breathe, not Matt. No bias opinion, M & A did proper swing dance whilst K & A’s swing also included leap frog, K kicking A’s bum, bumping each other’s bum. So hard to compare boy’s performance and girl’s performance in this respect but the whole show was fix and manipulated anyway as everyone knew. Never mind! Just love their dances, and always refreshing whenever I watch back.

A Mattless cf, they dragged jules in to do the end of programme challenge with Julia and she couldn't bet him, but him couldn't hit the dolly either. Wonder if someone else could have done better

A good cf ,liked the Austin bus and we had adam wheeling and dealing

seemed pretty happy at making some money

Moving swiftly on to the 10th of July on The One Show and the guest was Nick Hewer to promote The Apprentice. Zoe Ball joined Matt as a guest host and the sofa was outside in the plaza. There was an Apprentice sketch with Matt and Zoe being interviewed

Matt was wearing a pale blue shirt with navy spots and grey trousers (think he was economising on wardrobe before his holidays - his jeans had probably been packed already

)

I know Matt wasn't on the show last night but it irritates me that the BBC schedulers keep thinking Antiques Roadshow deserves the 8pm slot on Sunday's when there are new episodes. They're just wrong - Countryfile consistently outrates it nowadays and really merits the larger, later, audience...

Countryfile 5.61m (30.1%)
Antiques Roadshow 5.55m (25.9%)

Really thought they'd got their act together on this but I guess they still have it in their head that Antiques Roadshow is the flagship Sunday programme no matter how many times Countryfile proves them wrong.

KK, What a perfect word! If he got drunk a bit would he be a bit like that I do wonder. I like him very much when he looks so natural or no or less grooming. I thought I saw he shaved clean but no pink make-up or fake-tans applied to make him looks soothie and well-groomed. Maybe it’s an optical illusion of my eyesight as I have scars on left retina due to illness from childhood.

This was the look that we used to see him on the strictly most. And I think that he was no longer a rather skinny lad anymore from 2005/06 during his BP days. Has a married life made him looking more macho and matured even though he still got gorgeous boyish face. I don’t know the answer though I do notice that he was young and carefree during his BP era and the early years of CF and SB, say pre-strictly. Now he has become more controlled and cautious about things he does or speaks or acts due to his profile’s getting higher and highert which has drawn the media's attentions nowadays. We could no longer see his carefree style anymore cos he has learnt more about people and the publicity stunts of the press. Poor innocent soul! He would think twice beforehand.

An interesting result, wasn’t it? Normally we got either somebody showing his competitive side and won effortlessly or him being cheated by his fellows or a fixed result we could get regardless, didn’t we.

You are right about this KK. And AR got that higher viewing figure due to the 8pm timeslot. If they reschedule it back to 7pm, it would have been lesser so the flagship status would have been slipping away, would it. CF on the other hand is doing great whatever the timeslot it has been scheduled anyway.

Matt was in another cardie which was nice and snug showing of those board shoulders very well and some straining buttons, covering up his nice yellow shirt , lovely stubble coming on. gawgus.

Next up it's Countryfile from Essex which aired on the 21st of July. Matt was gardening with schoolchildren in Essex but before that he was investigating sheep's stomachs (pretty grim!). And great news - it's was t-shirt weather

Julia's ITV quiz show has plummeted to below a million viewers - dropping to 800K (7.6%) on Friday! And it would also appear Jake Humphrey has managed to annoy the BBC with his move to BT Sport (comments online from Gary Lineker indicate he won't be welcomed back...). It's easy to consider the short term gain of extra money but it can easily cost you a longer term career in showbiz... Matt may get less "opportunities" because of his current workload but I do think he may be making the right choices (as is Alex actually)...

Just seen the mattbakerfans. And you are doing great KK. Really appreciate your hard work and time you put in and contribute quite frequently to this thread up and running while keeping fans twitter and rebelmouse updated at the same time, honestly. I cannot do regularly like you have been doing for all these years but try to post any interesting info I found to give some supports. If none of us was unable to come here and contribute, this thread would have been abandoned and be sitting somewhere long ago, would it?
