Well Hellaw there! It's a long time since I've been on this thread, so apologies for prolonged absence. The way life is at present, this may only be a one- off visit. Familiar situation though, my mid-night wakefulness is back with a vengeance, having disappeared for a while when OH was at his most ill, oddly.
So first things first, big thanks to KK and to Emma for lovely pics and videos, as always, much appreciated. Being able to pop in to a picspam, as well as to get an almost daily dose of the Man himself via CF or TT, not to forget the repeats on Yesterday, when I have remembered to watch or record them, have been a real tonic. I notice that there is a debate about how long Matt will continue with TOS. So sticking my neck out to share something that has been on my mind for a while. I noticed the conversation on Tw. about M possibly having a new border collie pup? I think someone saw a tweet that suggested it, but I couldn't locate the tweet in question on M's timeline, so I am not sure whether we came to a conclusion about the veracity of that one. The thing is, when I saw that, I immediately thought 'that means he'll be going home to D within two years'. I just thought, if he goes home to be hands on with the farm, he'd want his own sheep dog, and would need to have her ( I think it would be a 'her' somehow) trained and ready to go. So you see, I got myself mentally prepared for that. Well, I may just be embracing my inner pessimist, but I do feel he'll head north sometime, and Ma B can't go on for ever, even though she seems to be possessed of eternal youth. Anyway, let's just enjoy every moment of his time on the telly that we can. Whatever happens, M usually surprises us with something we had not expected or predicted. Anyway, good to catch up with you lovely people in 'another place' and just to say again how important your friendship has been over the last few weeks of rather disorienting stuff happening. Now, any ideas for getting an insomniac off to sleep? One I haven't tried already? No, I thought not. 'See' you tomorrow at 6.57, |

Morning
![]() Very upset to see my late evening post on here didn't register Could be that I pressed the wrong button - silly me ![]() So in a nutshell (and from what I can remember I said...... Thrilling news that Riktoria is being dusted off and being prepared for her third outing. Whether or not the news about this new challenge was revealed a bit early is neither here nor there......and what ripples of excitement it has caused!Terry was a lovely and informative guest yesterday, and in a great gesture thanked Matt and Alex for all they had done in raising funds for CiN - what a kind and thoughtful thing to say, bless And of course MrB looked very dapper in his black cardi and light shirt.....have a feeling that cardis are now de rigeur - he's taken to wearing them constantly ![]() Lovely to see you on here Maid Marion in the middle of the night.....! And thanks to Emma for all the Olympic vts - bring back so many happy memories of last year, there were a couple of personal highlights that I remember in particular Millions of us were glued to the telly - they were certainly good times. And thanks KK for superb picspams as ever. The man looking good.... http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...40805.png.html and this ain't bad either.... http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...13227.png.html Hectic days at the moment looking after my poorly granddaughter so must fly......have a great Friday everyone, and we have Matt at the Steam Fair to look forward to on Sunday

Now, any ideas for getting an insomniac off to sleep? One I haven't tried already? No, I thought not. 'See' you tomorrow at 6.57, And sorry that you're suffering with insomnia again. I hope it improves and you you realise before 6:57 this evening that Matt isn't on The One Show because it's Friday (don't watch!) ![]() The tweet in question was from a girl who works in Pets at Home - she commented about meeting Matt. And then in a follow up tweet not mentioning his name she said she loved his 10 week old collie . So yes, I do think he has a new dog - and I suspect it will be female (and we know it'll have a one syllable name too!).And I have a bit of a different opinion re. Matt and TV. I see him more as wanting a Wogan/Attenborough like career. not on the TV all the time, but doing good work over many years. I know he loves the farm and Durham but at the same time he has spent more of his life working in show business (literally now - 20 years he's been working at this...) and I just don't see him giving that up in any permanent way. I see him doing this for as long as someone is prepared to give him work. I agree he won't be on The One Show forever but I still think he's guaranteed ratings for the BBC and they'd be crazy if they aren't already thinking about what's next... (I'm biased - I still want him to make a real Open Country type programme for TV - suggested name "Baker's Britain" - and I think he'd like Michael Portillo's train journeys job too) For me I saw the collie as confirmation that he had got those sheep for his house that he mentioned in Countryfile magazine . After the Royal Appointment show he said he'd asked about getting some sheep from the Highgrove Estate because he didn't want to bring them down from Durham (and also conned one of the gardeners into helping him with pruning the orchard ). I just figured that the children are old enough now not to be rounded up by a sheepdog so if they had sheep at home he can train a new dog - perhaps even letting Luke help... Also with the higher profile for One Man and His Dog (with it being incorporated into Countryfile) having another dog may fit nicely if they want to build up to that

Last night's rating - 3.77m (20% share). Again, still looking pretty stable and was the 7th most watched show of the day

I have to confess that I was having a 'low moment' last night which has stayed with me today. Seems a number of our friends are having a 'Friday the 13 th day. Mine hung over till this morning, when I stupidly came over tearful in our local pet shop ( not PAH) whilst buying bird food, just because between us OH and I had forgotten to bring any money. Just a little 'last straw' I think. Anyway, I'm at home with a cup of coffee and watching CF - I can't remember whether M is going to feature in this one! POC's to anyone working hard or feeling low today. And yes, KK I have just worked out that it's Friday so 'Its a miss from me'. |

Ooh, thank you KK, I had forgotten both the sheep blagging from Highgrove, and the forthcoming melding of OMAHD and CF, so you may well be right

'See' you tomorrow at 6.57, Also I'm not sure the farm would bring in enough money on its own to support all of them without Matts TV work. I may be wrong but I suspect thats the case. But apart from all that I'm with KK in that TV in his career. Its what he's great at and he can achieve so much. From what he's said so far he still has alot of ideas and plans left in that direction and none would be achievable if he left the public eye. I suspect he likes sheepdogs, has some sheep (as you do) and a little boy to show the ropes to......hence shiny new sheepdoglet ![]() as for insommia cures - YES! I've got a totally failsafe one. Look after 2 hyperactive 14 month old sproglets. The very minute their asleep and you can relax ...... ZONK  you can borrow them any time you like.....really. I'm good like that ![]() Quote:

![]() Mostly rain here nearly all day hope it's been a bit drier where matt's been filming Thanks Emma for the vids , watched the Durham torch one, does make me smile, still peeved that the live link went down while he was doing it Hi MM lovely to see you here, OC's work so well if I wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep, don't get more then 5 minutes into kielder before I been soothed off by matt dulcet tones and I'm in the land of nod again, but I'm sure you've do that already

I slept for 8 hours last night for the first time in yonkers so am feeling full of energy for the time being. I woke up 5 times apparently, but managed 4 hours of deep sleep which is the most important. This sleep monitoring gadget is definitely helping me to manage my sleep better. Wouldn't think you'd have to do that really, would you. |

![]() first of all sorry I seem to have opened a can of worms here.....My feeling that Matt won't be on TT that much longer is based almost entirely on my gut feeling....nothing more really. However it does just show how we all read things differently and come to different conclusions. Basically none of us have a clue! When I read about his new sheepdoglet I wasn't suprised at all. I don't see it as indication of heading for the hills at all - quite the opposite. It seems to me they are putting very firm roots down where they are. The new house, kids are now at school and they're well on the way to their own zoo. That doesn't indicate to me that they're planning on moving again any time soon. I also tend to agree with KK that his career is TV. Farming may be where his real heart is but its not where he can earn his (or his families) living if we're honest. I think he will eventually go back to the farm - after all they have got their own house there - but I don't see this happenning for a while yet. Possibly til one of the kids is old enough to want to work in farming and/or Matt retires. Also I'm not sure the farm would bring in enough money on its own to support all of them without Matts TV work. I may be wrong but I suspect thats the case. But apart from all that I'm with KK in that TV in his career. Its what he's great at and he can achieve so much. I'm good like that ![]() I did it yesterday in the corner shop. Went to buy a tin of oxtail soup & realised I had my mums sewing kit in my hand not my purse. It would be embarrassing but I kissed goodbye to my dignity along time ago........... I'm probably getting a bit carried away there

Morning. How annoying that must have been. Did they at least let you put the stuff aside and come back for it? Would be so frustrating to spend time Xmas shopping and then have to start all over again!

I think he did mention it when he talked about leaving Young Farmers didn't he. I can't remember what he said exactly but the general feeling I got was that he had lots of things planned and wasn't sure what he would be doing next and that TT would be on the agenda for some months more. I hope he stays in TV too. For selfish reasons because I want to see him, but also I think it's a good career, and though farming is something he loves, I do get the impression he needs other things too, and TV suits him perfectly. I can easily see him being an established figure - well he already is really, but one of the Beeb's mainstays, with eventual knighthood etc.
I'm probably getting a bit carried away there ![]() The One Show will be moving studios soon so I wonder if it'll get a bit of a relaunch then as well - which could either make Matt want to stay or want to move on... (I also wonder if he'd want to carry on permanently if Alex leaves as they do have a good rapport now...) But I didn't mention Attenborough or Wogan randomly earlier. I agree with you Rita - I think Matt admires presenters like that with long and respected careers (I think he mentioned them in interview once). |

I'm probably getting a bit carried away there:) keeps things interesting don't you think?and yes it was at the last YF's do where I think they asked him what next....he said something along the lines of well theres CF and I'm going to stick with TT for a bit longer then sort of smirked (not that you could see but it sounded like a smirk if you know what I mean....or perhaps a wink ) He didn't say anything really but still left me wondering. The other thing is AJ. Theres always the possibility she might be thinking of moving on. She's talking about being broody and it must be quite hard for her with her OH from New Zealand. Having to squeeze trips down there into her schedule can't be easy so it wouldn't suprise me if she wants a break from the 5 days a week workload. She's popping up on everything lately, lots of magazines as well. imagine the producers face if they both decided to jump ship

Countryfile was the 2nd most watched show yesterday - only beaten by The X-Factor. Ratings were 6.11m (28% audience share). That's a great rating and share and a good indication that the weather has become more autumnal!

![]() A glorious CF yesterday - mixed opinions about Matt's shirt - and of course the fact that Adam had an identical one on Sack the wardrobe department! Matt so relished the driving of the steam engines, helping the driver doing the wheelies and then furrowing a straight line on the tractor. As the wise sages said of him: 'He's a man who looks as if can do everything' Never a truer word spoken. Matt looked very gorgeous at the end of the programme striding out in front of the audience at the steam fair. All eyes were on him - who could blame them! Great viewing figures as well for CF - the beeb must be congratulating themselves.Wonderful tuxedo pics KK, so many delights to choose from....the warning was timely ![]() http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...11719.png.html http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...12040.png.html http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...13523.png.html http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...13745.png.html http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...14051.png.html http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...14423.png.html I loved all of the pics - how truly handsome he looked that evening. They don't get flustered at all anymore, instead they just joke about it and carry on. It's very well handled now
