People who are the best at what they do, because they've worked hard and/or because they have a special gift or talent, but can recognize that other people are special too, whatever they do in life. Yeah, I'll buy that. It's the ones that know they are the best but pretend they don't know it that get me - false humility. But then again I suppose they only go along with what they know people expect of them.

And there's a cultural thing too. People are different the world over but get them on the One Show sofa and we expect them to behave as though they were British. This mostly applies to Americans as they don't have a lot of guests from other countries.

I agree with Rita - it's false humility that's really annoying. The "oh I'm not that good really, you could be as good if you just tried harder". In certain fields that's just so much rubbish and it doesn't make me think more of a competitor when they take that approach.

Equally annoying is when somebody is genuinely great and at the top of their game then if they don't go in for the false modesty nonsense they tend to be called arrogant by press and comments online. And that's just really irritating - it's as if a chunk of the public would prefer it if they were worse at their job (I had to stop reading F1 comments online when I saw people's attitude towards Lewis Hamilton, though half the time I think the colour of his skin is a lot of commentators issues there...)

Quiet self confidence is awesome - knowing you're good at what you do and not having to pretend to be worse at it to please the public. And that's what I think people like Usain Bolt have.

And to bring it back on topic that self-assuredness is what I see in Matt. Someone who is comfortable and confident in his ability to do his job and doesn't really care much about other people's opinions of that.

Hello

Just dropping by to say a huge thankyou to Emma for all the clips... especially for the Bucks Fizz tribute (stripper Matt) as iv'e been putting all sorts into youtube search for that and never been successful! Made my evening to come home to that.

Also the quickstep pics. Can't believe the height he gets in some of the jumps. A glorious dance. A tail coat is the the one time where I dont mind him in an unstubbly state. Especially when combined by cutest side parting ever. ( a look he's kept!)

I think in the 100 metre race he lost all his time with the dodgy start in second race. He's speedy! Am pretty sure he'll be in lycra come mid nov Bee. I can't imagine him sitting on the sofa anchoring it when he could be out there pedalling/mentoring etc.

The 5th of September on The One Show with the Masterchef finalists as guests (from my perspective this sadly included Janet Street Porter as I find her very annoying and arrogant)

Matt was wearing a pink shirt (with white collar and cuffs) and grey trousers

Good evening all

Great pics KK - he certainly upped the ante that night in his pink shirt and neat trews! I was out that night so was very sorry to have missed that vision but nevertheless pleased not to have to hear the grating tones of JSP!

Thanks to Emma again for unearthing those super BP and other vts! I watched BP at 50 last night. A fantastic programme and there were several very funny moments with Matt. I especially loved Matt awarding Jonny W (my 2nd favourite man!) the gold BP badge. I had never seen that before so the thudding was of gigantic proportions

Am half-watching Stepping Out....there was one good couple doing some hiphop dancing but the other couples have not strutted their stuff Roll on SCD next week!

That blue linen jacket is such a lovely colour and great style. It really works for Matt...

I'll apologise for lack of picspam these past 2 days but I've been movie watching and updating software on phones & ipads so I've been lacking time. I am just creating a video of the running from Wednesday's show though

Don't apologize kk. I really appreciate the work you do on those picspams (and Emma's contributions too) and don't mind at all if you are behind (or even skip a few). Gives me a chance to catch up

What do you think of ios7? I haven't explored all of its features yet, but so far I love the new Safari which is so easy to use. I never did get the hang of the old one where pages just seemed to disappear irretrievably and I was forever having to repeat my search request. This one more closely resembles the MAC version I think. I also love the keyboard which is much more finger friendly. Although I generally love Apple, the one thing I miss from Windows is the greater freedom to customise. I wish I could change the colours on my iPhone for example. I hate the beige strip at the bottom of the home screen where Music, Phone and Safari lie. Horrible colour. And some things are invisible on my wallpaper, like the instruction to slide bar to open when the phone goes into sleep mode. Would be nice to be able to change things like that to a colour I can see.

I'm now using tweetbot on my MAC, and although I love the versions for iphone and iPad, I'm having trouble getting used to the MAC version. I really don't like the black (funereal) band at the top and left side of the main column and, again, wish I could change the colour. I also hate the counter of things I haven't read yet. I go through tweets chronologically, which is why I just cannot bear the dreaded blue lines on twitter (which from what I read are just the beginning of major changes anyway), and I hate this counter appearing next to mentions to tell me I haven't opened them. I've got rid of it in the dock but it still appears next to mentions when I open twitter. A small but irritating feature. It's always annoying not to be able to get things just exactly the way you want them. I actually prefer the appearance of twitterific, but you have to purchase the full version of that to get rid of the ads and to have more than one account, and that rankles when twitter and tweetbot are free.

To get back on subject, I'll be out again for the beginning of CountryFile tonight, but will set it to record. That way I'll have something interesting to watch while Antiques Roadshow is on

I see there will be a clip of Adam catching up with 2 sheepdog handlers representing Wales on next week CF Shropshire but what about the main guy of OMAHD Matt would be doing?? IMHO, the opener on CF should have been Matt telling us what we are going to see, etc. He and Ellie would still be in foods festival (good for him) in that episode. And now Matt has 12 weeks old border collie little Bob so I really want to be optimistic but if CF overtaking OMNHD do not make it better I’d be v upset. I know he is busy. He has world gymnastics championships 2013 from 30 Sept to 6 Oct to present and commentate on. And he would have been checking the routes that his new rickshaw team would take but he managed to squeeze all in last 3 years very well. So I like to think we will see v exciting programs Matt has to cover in next 2-3 months.

PS: BBC website has already announced the GB gymnasts who would compete at the end of this month.

Hi Rita, I think I know what you mean. When Matt joined BP he was a lovely skinny talented lad, not thuddable as you say but I did find him attractive on BP after he got married cos he became manlier and hunkier.
In these pics in particular I found him attractive and hottie:

Honestly I didn’t get thudded until I saw the sexy vamp in guyliner and red highlight hair. It was the first time ever I was in the state of thud but again no one can thud me like he did. I am really picky and hard to please. I blame it on him cos he set the standard incredibly high. I haven't found someone I can call his rival yet.

Matt the little tapper…His QS tailcoat fitted him well nicely though VW tailcoat was big for him but he was looking dashingly handsome in those tailcoats. Side-parting suits him well but I do love his curly hair without side-parting too.

For 100m live race, both Matt and Alex wasn’t ready yet when Brian said ‘go’. They started few seconds late and as it was 100m race, Matt could only speed up toward the end of the race. Usian’s recent personal best for 100m race is 9.58 second. Matt’s personal best without having yum was 13.08 seconds. So he is speedy Gonzales in my eyes.

it was a good one tonight Matt waving his big chopper about, long screw in the woods, beavers ...... blimey. Bet the team meeting for that episode had a few giggles

and I'm in a state of total and utter green T shirt related thud. Lordy.......... that man. Clambering about on logs and some fantastic over the left shoulder views.

Marvellous stuff. Loved it

I was just thinking about the gym world cup next week & wondering if he'll be doing it. I'd guess so but on the BG site it says it starts on 25th. Doesn't seem to be any coverage on
BBC over the weekend but hopefully there'll be something on red button. Maybe just highlights the second weekend? If he does go I guess thats at least 1 cf out plus maybe a few days TT.

anyone found out any more?

ok..........my info was wrong

seems it does start Monday 30th but the first 3 days are qualifiers with the finals on Thursday & Friday (all round) and Saturday & Sunday (apparatus).

my guess is that he'll go for the final 4 days which hopefully will at least be on red button. Hopefully some coverage on BBC at the weekend as well.

so maybe miss Thursday TT and one CF

Great rating for last night's Countryfile 6.24m (29.8% share). That share was fabulous and it was the BBC's highest rated show of the day by some way (Antiques Roadshow was 5.29m).

Hopefully when Strictly starts up on Sundays again and Countryfile has to move earlier it can maintain this sort of audience level

A serious and sombre start to the show, could give matt a big hug after getting a word wrong in the opening titles about the vt on the beach

Matt looked fab in his pink shirt and light grey trews, the razor had been out to play and he also had a mop-trim

Hugh was a good guest, loved the music playing at the end.

Hopefully when Strictly starts up on Sundays again and Countryfile has to move earlier it can maintain this sort of audience level ”

Great ratings for cf

There was a little iPlayer bonus before the show - to tell you not to phone in and vote in the competition as you may be too late

Countryfile on the 8th of September came from Staithes in North Yorkshire where Matt indulged his inner artist. Lovely looking fishing village and Matt clearly enjoyed being arty

Caution - some very big closeups in this batch!

Evening....just peeked at a couple of these and will save them for a full thud later this evening Thank you as ever KK!

Fabulous CF yesterday....wasn't able to see it in real time but I had recorded it. MrB looked oh so fabulous in his green T-shirt (it's caused some problems for bakerettes ) and blue jacket. The colours looked great against the backdrop of the woods - the trees and foliage looked beautiful in the summer sun as did Matt. He managed to negotiate the branches over the stream without falling in - shame about that, it would have made our day

Tonight Hugh L was a fantastic and funny guest full of self deprecating humour and joining in the randomness that is the OS Some great music on the show....The Wombles songs played in a classical manner and Hugh rounding off the show on the old Joanna.....by that time Matt had cheered up, he was visibly affected by the poignant vt that began the programme. And I'm sure many viewers were similarly moved by the spectacle of the representation of all those thousands of soldiers who died on the beach, very profound images........

Well, I'm still doing some prep work for tomorrow....a hectic day with no OS viewing in the evening Understand it's J Corden and R Stein as guests......should be a jolly prog!

Better get a wriggle on and finish me jobs....night night and CCM. Time to  xx
