Evening!

Nice to see we're all geared up for a bit of SCD watching - I'm sure you'll get to hear the latest news from the contest Emma, even if you're not so keen on it nowadays! It'll be very difficult to miss over the next couple of months as people start to back favourites and some of the C-list celebs will become more popular as the weeks go by Matt was never, ever a C-list celeb - he was relatively well-known but not excessively so. But that all changed the moment he and Aliona stepped on the dancefloor Of course Matt should have won that year but....we won't go there

I don't think Ben will be very dainty on his feet (but I think he's sweet) and I think my sweepstake man, Patrick, will go some way. Think Ashley will be the only man to get to the finals, the women generally seem to be stronger (and younger ) and I think poor Tony will be the first casualty from what I've seen from the SCD promo vts

But back to the present....gorgeous pics as usual KK, thank you. A classic pose....

Bit slouchy but beautiful...

http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...12649.png.html

Lovely smiley Matt .....

http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...11145.png.html

And I just liked this one...Matt looking so natural and interested in everything and everyone (well, there have been a few exceptions )

http://m1098.photobucket.com/albumvi...11837.png.html

Didn't expect to be here early evening but OH has taken our grandson to London instead. I'm very happy about that...Friday in London in the rush hour....no thank you!

Best get my little jobs done to get myself sitting comfortably in front of the box for 9pm. SCD won't be a blast (it'll never be that again ) but it'll do quite nicely as light entertainment and we will suffer no traumas regarding low marking and snide comments

Adieu my friends and I wish you pleasant dreams tonight. CCM  xx

Evening all

Sarah was a nice guest, I'll be turning into atlanis looks like in could be good.

Looking forward to scd, it will be good to see them on the dance floor after weeks of trailers about it, don't know most of the contestants,
so will see what they are all like, of the couple that I do know I wouldn't be upset if julien or vanessa went out 1st
Don't think my sweep stake of tony will do that well, do hope he makes it through a couple of weeks

It’s Friday! I am behind 6 episodes of the OS so still have to catch up.

I won’t be watching live SCD though judging from the group dance I got the impression that some of this year contestants have potential to be trained as good dancers. And I have a couple of questions came across my mind. Who will get the supports from the majority of viewers? Who will be seen as r*gh? Which couple(s) is going to get judges’ favour? Who can keep consistency throughout the series in talent-wise or comedy-value? More importantly which new pros’ have the abilities to coach and choreograph dance routines that could draw my attention ? In the past, series winners were always in top three on the leader-board of first show. That included Tom and Chris.

I guess Ben and Ashley will get a lot of support from female viewers. Ben would be popular like Gav though he danced better than Gav in the group dance. I do think the one those have the natural rhythm would be Ashley, Natalie, Sophie, Julianne, Susanne, and Rachel. We may see some surprises from other celebs I forgot to mention but I look forward to see how Aliona would coach Tony. It doesn’t necessarily mean how he could pick up from her master class and how long they would survive. He and John Sergeant are the same age but John did 5/6 years earlier than Tony. I’d be purely interested in her teaching techniques. Surviving week in week out is not simple and straightforward so if even they won’t last very long it is understandable.

On the other (very important) note, I see Mitch would be in the commentary box this time and Beth and Louis would join Matt. I really, really hope that Matt will be joining Mitch and Chris too like he did from World Championships 2005 to London 2012. Without Matt, it would be a bit dry to me cos Mitch and Chris have to share Matt’s parts. In result, we won’t hear their expert commentaries at their best. They need the lively Matt and I did notice that they always invited him to join them after he finished interviwing someone else.”

Emma - just because Mitch is commentating and Matt is in a studio doesn't mean Matt won't be commentating as well. The last Europeans featured Matt doing commentary for all but one discipline - even though there were 2 commentators on the ground and Matt was in the studio.

They need 2 expert commentators to cover the events and Matt's role is always to provide colour commentary and be the presenter. The fact that he can combine both roles is fantastic as there are very few people who can do both. Quite a few people commenting on the YouTube videos (mostly American) of the gymnastics have picked up on Matt's ability - nice to see it's recognised.

(Side note - "colour commentary": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_commentator - it's the person who doesn't necessarily cover exactly what's happening but provides the background information and the atmosphere)

Strictly opinions so far:

Natalie - best dancer by far but given her background that's not unexpected. She did lack hip movement which they covered up with the frock. Good arms and leg straightening. 31 may have been a point too much. (Artem's tan was overboard though )
Ashley - bit disappointed as he lacked hip movement and didn't finish off his arm lines. But I've never rated Ola as a pro dancer and I don't think she's a great teacher - she has a contender and still felt the need to dance round him and use stupid non-dance moves
Susanna - I actually found her a bit irritating, it was a little too much "we're having fun!". On top of that she used the same music as Alesha for her jive and frankly was always going to suffer by comparison
Tony - better than the judges gave him credit for. It was an OK sedate waltz with some nice movement. Aliona did a good job with the choreography
Sophie - OK, but looked stiff. I think she was dragged a bit by Brendan in places but he covered nicely (good choreographer). I'm concerned she may find fast latin tricky
Mark - the mask was overboard and he doesn't look great in hold due to the weight but it was a good dance. He can move, he had decent technique and Iveta didn't need to cover him up too much (and Iveta won best frock for me - love the colour and style)
Afternoon

Bit of a grey chilly day, the best thing to do the cheer the day up is some WMA-ing , so some Cornish wrestling and a few others . Lovely

A good start to strictly last night, a couple of good dances, not sure what Susanne was trying to do at the end of her dance, if it was meant to
be a cartwheel, it went wrong, she should really leave the gymnastic moves to the professionals
I thought tony did quite well, he made some mistakes but it wasn't as awful as craig made out, he made more of a effort than Ann ever did, the sympathy vote could keep them, depending on what the powers that be have decided the story going to be, they are still having a go at Aliona on the MF she can't cuddle up to tony like she did with matt or harry it wouldn't look right, she's being respectful as he old enough to be here granddad, she can't win what ever she does with them

Strictly opinions for 2nd night:

Ben - he did try but he was rather stiff and awkward. At least Kristina didn't try and cover up by dancing around him (hi Ola! ) but she needs to work on his rhythm. I suspect the partial deafness is an issue
Dave - entertaining car crash. He enjoyed himself and he moved but it only vaguely resembled a cha cha. Much preferred mad Karen this year though
Patrick - the only male celeb to come out of the week with any credit. Good jive, a little flat footed but really impressed for week 1
Julien - him and his pro are going to annoy me by being loud and screechy. They need to tone it down and try and focus on the dance not the posing. I actually think there's some potential in there
Vanessa - don't like her, don't like James. So this partnership makes me happy . Really not good - tried to be comedy act and missed
Fiona - Anton choreographed a real dance! And it wasn't a bad one - went wrong in the middle but covered OK
Deborah - Robin choreographed a real dance! He avoided excessive comedy and I really quite liked this tango
Rachel - preferred this to Sophie's waltz. She looks like she might be a bit floppy in the middle but Pasha did a great job working around that
Abby - wow! This was a surprise as I thought she might be one of those stiff and slightly awkward models. Instead she and Aljaz were really great. Beautiful and graceful waltz - definitely the best in week 1
(Interestingly I've heard people suggest that Natalie deliberately danced worse than she could last night so she wasn't too good. Bit of a conspiracy theory there )

Moving on to the 12th of September on The One Show with guest Terry Wogan. This was the show where "Rickshaw Challenge: The Revenge" was mentioned. Terry made reference to a 3rd rickshaw challenge starting in Northern Ireland - details are still to be announced.

Matt was wearing a navy cardigan, white spotted shirt, and dark jeans

Hellaw

Bit of a mixed bag with part 2 of scd, some bad dancing, some ok and some good

Julien and vanessa weren't very good, I did have to mute both of them while at the judges desk they both need to stop shrieking like 3 years old
Dave was terrible but I like that he gave it plenty of enthusim and had a gaw and enjoyed doing the dance hopefully he will get better
Fiona and deborah were ok,went wrong in a few places but made it through
Ben was alright, needs to get his hips moving, a nice bit of eye candy so should be in for a while
Patrick, rachel and abbey were good. It was funny that abbey was saying that she danced like a sack of spuds and Aljaz was all confused as he didn't understand what she meant

Gosh, there are lots here KK....thank you Will make them my evening treat. At the time of screening, the backroom boys weren't aware that Matt and Adam were wearing identical shirts - bit of a faux pas in the continuity team But we know who wore it best

Managed to view the OS picspam, the Terry W edition, where it all slipped out re RC3 Still it's given people advance warning.....

Beautiful neckage going on here.....

A lovely CF awaits tonight....Matt at the Ludlow Food Festival....and in a fine shirt by the looks of it. I wonder if he sampled any of the foody delights whilst there.....think it's a given We'll probably be salivating as spiller Baker does his usual scoffing Roll on CF o'clock!

Evening all

A lovely cf from the ludlow food festival, matt got to eat all day, the ladies with the goats cheese were really pleased to see him, nice bit of juggling from matt while trying apple juice and getting a alcoholic drink
Matt seemed impressed with the ram special agent, another bred of sheep to go home. special agent didn't waste much time once he was put into the field with the ladies a little preview of matt with a dog for one and his dog
More food for matt at the end with lamb chops, they did look nice, Matt saying he full up for all the food his been trying through out the day, but still went back to finish off the chop, MrsB using a camping stove at home, more work being done at the baker house.

Matt seemed impressed with the ram special agent, another bred of sheep to go home. special agent didn't waste much time once he was put into the field with the ladies a little preview of matt with a dog for one and his dog
More food for matt at the end with lamb chops, they did look nice, Matt saying he full up for all the food his been trying through out the day, but still went back to finish off the chop, MrsB using a camping stove at home, more work being done at the baker house.”

The foodie people from Ludlow are actively chatting away to the mattbakerfans account (I think I pointed out it was a fan account when the episode was filmed but don't want to jump in now ). Apparently their websites have been heavily visited as a result of tonight's Countryfile which I think is brilliant

Dave was terrible but I like that he gave it plenty of enthusim and had a gaw and enjoyed doing the dance hopefully he will get better

Ben was alright, needs to get his hips moving, a nice bit of eye candy so should be in for a while
Patrick, rachel and abbey were good. It was funny that abbey was saying that she danced like a sack of spuds and Aljaz was all confused as he didn't understand what she meant”

Morning. I don't really have an opinion yet on the candidates. Wish there was someone I could feel strongly about but I don't think there is. It's more interesting if you can get more involved - at least for me. I do like Dave. Not because he was funny but he just seems such a lovely person. Same with Sophie who seems to me the most natural of the girls.

And when I say I don't have a strong opinion I'm forgetting Vanessa. Out, please, now!

I watched Countryfile late last night and what a lovely one it was. Matt proving yet again he can do just about anything (juggling). I'm wondering if he can knit?

And of course we've yet to know about changing a double duvet cover without ending up inside!

Countryfile rated as well as ever last night - highest rated BBC show of the day by some way with 6.27m viewers (29% audience share).

Next week Countryfile moves to it's earlier slot as the Strictly results show is back. It'll be on from 6:20pm - 7:20pm, this will obviously have some impact on ratings (though it normally does pretty well because people tune in early for Strictly and this increases the audience).

Looks like it'll be a good episode too as Matt is in Blaenavon - seeing how the mine area is being used for wildlife habitats, bmx tracks, and making cheese. And Matt will be competing in a bmx time trial

It's Autumn so normal service is resumed in the BBC top 30 programmes . For anyone worried about falling ratings for The One Show I can confirm that all but the hour long Wednesday show made the top 30 and in fairly typically slots (the 20s). In the same week last year only 2 episodes made the top 30.

And even better Countryfile is up over 0.5m viewers since the same week last year

Hi KK, the reason I love to see Matt joining Mitch and Christine in the commentary box is because to my knowledge, Mitch has been the only one revealing what Matt was actually doing there. He’d say ‘Matt’s doing handstand now’. My a ll time favourite line Mitch ever said was ‘you must forgive us; we’re cuddling in the commentary box’. I really missed Mitch during the European Championships though Craig was doing fine. I just love Matt and Mitch combo.

And I agree re- Matt has done dual roles fantastically. And I’ve seen most of Matt’s gym commentary videos on youtube from 2007 to London 2012 and have noticed the positive comments. One user said the whole BBC coverage of London 2012 Women’s TF was blocked w0rldw1de by N3C when tried to upload. I have had the same experience too cos I put ‘commentary by Matt, Mitch and Christine’ in the description.
Thanks for linking the note to ‘colour commentary’. Good to know about it.

Was this the second or the third time Ian Hislop appeared on the show? At any rate I noticed a slight difference in his demeanour on this show. Previously he always seemed to have a superior air to him - intellectual snobbery perhaps - and seemed as though he was there under duress. This time though I thought he was looking at Matt as though he couldn't quite figure him out but had gained a certain respect for him. Maybe because of the CIN challenges or the fact Matt has gone from strength to strength where he thought he wouldn't last in the game. Then again maybe this is all entirely in my imagination. Certainly Ian participated with a bit more enthusiasm than on previous occasion(s).

Sweet smile here

I think you might be imagining it . Ian is an incredibly bright and opinionated person. I think previously he's been on promoting Have I Got News For You - which as good as it is, isn't Ian's show. I think he was more enthused this time as it was a topic that meant a lot to him.

I honestly noticed no difference in his attitude towards the presenters though...

colour commentary I like that. Very interesting because thats exactly what Matt does isn't it. I do like Mitch anyway - he has one of those kind Uncle type voices like John Motson but I agree that without Matt squeaking and hyperventilating next to them its all a bit dry. I've been watching some of M & C's commentary on the world Acro Gym and its all a bit 'well blow me down if she hasn't just executed the worlds first triple back summerflip with 3 pikes and a tummy tuck and hasn't even smudged her glitter eyeshadow' now isn't that a turn up for the books. Matt of course would have been trying to recreate the move right there in the media box whilst still wired up.

God I love him.

Morning all! Apologies for lack of picspam yesterday but I needed an early night

Last night's show was pretty good. I like Ben Miller anyway and he did make a good guest. And I haven't watched citizen Khan but thought Adil Ray was interesting too. The show did OK in the ratings - it was the 8th most watched show yesterday with 3.81m (19% share)

And a fun tweet for the gymnastics from BBC Sports Ollie Williams. There's a competitor whose name is Anton Fokin. This is what Ollie tweeted:

Quote:
“Ollie Williams ‏@OllieW 30 Sep
@OzoneVibe Nothing beats the prospect later this week of Matt Baker, watching all-around final, Anton last to compete... "FOKIN! AMAZING!"”
