Just saw the rating for last night's Countryfile. 6.76m (28.7%). That's another good rating and share for the show. Think it makes it the 2nd most watched show of the night again.

And speaking of Countryfile I see Julia has confirmed what I've suspected for a while - she's leaving the show (for a 5 part countryside programme she's hosting on ITV). To be honest I don't think she's been that engaged with Countryfile since she was on maternity leave. I'm never sure ITV is the answer but for now it's probably more money, less hours and she headlines her own show.

In terms of Countryfile I think that's become more and more Matt's show (even when he isn't on! ) - he seems to get more clips on clip shows and seems more associated in the public's head with the show. Julia was the "big name" when it moved to the evening I think she kind of lost that presence during her leave and never got it back. I think she'll be happy with her own show, probably an easier filming schedule and more time with her son.

Probably makes it more important for the BBC to keep hold of Matt on the show though...

I've haven't posted on this thread before but do lurk on it occasionally. Matt is one of my favourite ever contestants on Strictly - I'm glad his career has gone from strength to strength since he appeared on the show a few years ago.

Just popping in to mention that it was lovely to see Matt give his support and advice to Beth Tweddle on Dancing on Ice yesterday. He appeared on her VT. I am not surprised Julia decided to leave CF to host a countryside program on ITV. I can understand her as she has little Zac to look after so best of luck to her. Matt would understand her too. I’d miss their brotherly sisterly genuine chemistry on CF though. He might miss his big sis J but he knows nothing is last forever. And I just wonder big hugs and fireman lifts from Matt would become vacant on CF now. Can I apply for this purpose only?

Thank your very much for linking the clip. I like the way Matt encouraged Beth, advising she can attack the ice in the way she can attack the bar. I think which was why Robin Cousin mentioned in his comments. She attacked it as Matt said and it was the first time ever I saw a celeb attempted the leapfrog on DOI. I noticed she and Lukasz did the little jumps that Matt and Aliona did in their QS. She was a trouper last week. I am so pleased Beth and Lukasz have gone through to the final. In my view, they were always undermarked every week. I am sure Matt would be pleased for them too. I do love Chris Dean and love him more last night when he stepped in for Beth. Hero!

Now I know why Alex said to Matt, ‘you are like the Spiderman, hanging on the edge’ on the OS last month if I remember correctly. I was puzzled when I heard from her cos’ how would she know he’s like spiderman, you see. She said that when he likes to have a go rock-climbing after a rock climbing VT. Best of luck to her… It’s tough…Hope she is fit and well enough to take the challenge. The weather is kind to her too. I am sure she’ll be well looked after by the SR team.

It was lovely when Matt touched Al's cheek to see if she was still cold...must have been very chilly up the wall of Broadcasting House I worry for Alex's safety, it's going to be horrendously difficult trying to scale that rockface in the US. An article I read about her Sports Relief Challenge sounded as if Alex and those around her were slightly anxious about the whole event.....it's not something that many people would ever attempt.

Not on here much but enjoying as always all the pics from KK and Emma. And thanks to Topaz for the delightful film about Beth and DOI with of course the brief glimpse of Matt encouraging Beth. He's such a positive person!

Sunday's CF was memorable for probably the wrong reasons....the relentless freezing rain which our lovely man had to content with Looked much happier in the warmth of the hide....

Great audience figures for CF which is fantastic. With the departure of Julia perhaps Helen and one of the other occasional female presenters will feature more heavily or the producers may bring in a 'new face'. Will be interesting to see how all of this develops......

Hello EMMAJC and everyone else here

I think Matt has always been very supportive of his friends and people he works with. I remember when Zoe Salmon was competing on DOI - he went to see her perform and was filmed cheering her from the audience - this was before he was on Strictly, I hadn't really watched Blue Peter in ages but I knew he'd been a colleague of hers on it - then about a year or so later he was competing on Strictly. That's one of the many things I liked about him - he always came across on the show as warm, friendly and good natured - even though he was competing against Kara he was still generous enough to help her out with her gymnastic moves.

I think Beth definitely benifitted from his advice - you could see it really boosted her confidence in her performance - it's one of my favourite routines of hers, and yes now you mention it, I can see similarities between it and M & A's QS a routine which I also loved and thought was very underrated. You're right she has been undermarked - it happened last year too but she's clearly popular with public because she won last series despite the judges efforts to undermine her on many occasions and thankfully she's got to the finals this series - I think that's something Matt can relate to as he wasn't always given the credit he deserved on Strictly, especially when he and Aliona tried something different. Whatever happens on Sunday - Beth can be proud of what she achieved on DOI.

I don't always watch 'Country File' and the 'One Show' but whenever I do get a chance Matt always comes across as his usual charming self and I always remember how I adored most of his amazing performances with Aliona on Strictly

I watched the year Zoe Salmon competed on DOI but I couldn’t remember Matt was supporting in that year. I recorded the series on VHS. Haven’t it watched back since. I might overwrite it though.

I remember Kara’s interview saying that Matt’s very lovely and they got on so well.
Yes, he’s always optimistic, very supportive and encouraging. He supported Aliona and Alex in SCD 2011. Louis and Beth, the year after. He has known Beth and Louis and interviewed them since he was on Blue Peter. They were very young,

He said gymnasts are not necessarily a good dancer but Louis is a good dancer, have a natural rhythm. At that time no one really knew Louis’s ability on the dancefloor.

I am looking forward to see DOI this Sunday. I still think Ray has a good chance to win but I’d love to see Beth win cos the judges’ faces in that moment would be one of the best I’d ever seen on DOI.

It wasn't actually too bright Sky. He did wear once but due to the lightings in the studio it turned out on my telly as the colour I hate most! Plus CE type shirt inside! Goodness me, I was like have to thank to that jumper instead of getting disappointed. Didn't bother to capture pics cos storage capacity would be wasted! But anyway purple long-sleeved polo shirt compensated all disappointments from last night!

Just seen a very lovely photo of Matt and Nicola on top corner of page 5 in Countryfile mag March 2014 issue… I didn’t see when I read it first time last weekend! Oh well, I just flipped through at that time. Lovely gorgeous natural looking couple with cute little Bob! We should get to see their photos more often. Nice to see Nicola did her hair side-parting. She’s stunning naturally even she is a mother of 2! I like CF mag professional photographer Sean Malyon; he never massed up his photos with overdone airbrushes.

A great article of Matt inside and his tips are practicalcool (copytight Mr B, people!); however I wished his article was being edited to fit in 4 or 3 and a half pages instead of being tight squeezed in 3, somehow; just because my eyes really struggling to read v small white fonts on the dark green background. My reading glasses couldn’t help me that much. Anyway, I quite like one of his tips - clicking fingers! And I can’t stop smiling when I read the beginning of second paragraph on page 45. Matt wrote, ‘As I write this I’m being rudely interrupted, but with justification, by Bob, our eight months old collie – simply because my attention is not solely on him’. And I see from his article, Bob’s still keen to get his attention! Who could blame little Bob for interrupting Matt in such an attention seeking way – surly he would want his master’s not just full attention. He’d also want tickles on tummy, gentle strokes, kisses and cuddles. I do hope he and Annie get fair shares of attention from their master and Annie gets trained as a rescued dog, at least I hope; so we can get the chance to see, as other Labrador retrievers can do, her newly learned searching skills on CF at some point. It’d be v interesting and I think Mrs B and mini Bs can also help doggies in training.

I found articles about Matt and his dogs always fascinating to read. Back in March 2011, there was an article in CF mag; Dog Special - Matt Baker and his dog. And we got gorgeous pictures of one Matt and his cute dogs.

By the way, I am catching up SR Top Dog on iplayer. Is anyone watching? Think Matt would be. It’s funny and entertaining. I really enjoyed watching. There have been tough solo challenges completed by the celebs recently but it’s been a long time, I have not seen a celebs SR challenge program which is for both entertaining and fundraising purpose since ‘Only Fools on Horses in 2006.’ But to be fair, the like of sport challenge - Only Fools on Horses was riskier and special skills required doing show jumping cos none of the horses were theirs. They had not only to learn the skills of the sport but had to develop team bonding and work well as a team with the horse they got. Matt finished up as a runner-up with a dislocated shoulder and 2 fractured ribs wasn’t a bad result, wasn’t it.

As far as I remember it was just one show that Matt was filmed from the audience on DOI cheering Zoe on....I remember it quite vividly because he called out her name just as she was about to perform. I'm sure if he had time to spare he'd have gone to see Beth perform too but I guess he's a very busy man these days.

Thanks for the lovely clip of Matt talking just before the Olympics about Louis - he looks so excited on the clip at the anticipation of covering the Olympics. I always loved that enthusiasm which he brought with him to strictly.

I'm really looking forward to DOI tonight - if I'm honest I have a slight preference for Ray to win because I just think he's so enjoyable to watch and he's the consummate performer - in that respect I think he's very much like Matt was on strictly. However, I'd be delighted if Beth wins - especially as you say it would be sooooo funny to see the look on the faces of the judges......just as long is it's not Hayley because I really don't rate her skating much although she is a good performer....so I'd like Ray to win with Beth runner up.

I wish they'd do an all stars strictly - as nice as it is to see Matt presenting, interviewing and roaming the countryside, it would be great to see him on the dance floor again.

Hi Topaz, I now kind of recollect Matt’s appearance in the audience on DOI, not so vividly though. Something back of my mind believing it was Gathan the audience in later week. Did Zoe appear in the series Ray won? I’ve checked all DOI series I got and found full Series 2, half of series 4 and a few weeks of series 5 but Ray’s year is missing. Typical! All I remember was Zoe and Matt Evers’s dancing to ABBA’s song, she was in a golden cat suit in prop week. They did well and if I am not wrong, they were voted out when they dance to Leona Lewis’s song. She was in a lovely lilac dress, I still remember.

As I expected Ray won last night. Worthy winner! I wouldn’t mind either Ray or Beth whoever won but I was disappointed when Hayley went through. I don’t get why Jason et al were always, always desperate about over-acting from the celebs, calling ‘sublime’ performance. IMO, she has been highly praised and over-rated throughout than the rest. Even at the world championships and the Olympics levels figure skating; we don’t get to see over-acting from the pair-skaters – some of them are siblings who won't act like that.

Anyway, I’d agree there are some similarities between Matt and Ray – talented, great at all-around, having equal strengths in the required skills. Matt has some more extra personalities, (I maybe a bit bias). He’s chrematistic, infectiously enthusiastic, very friendly and charming.... and brilliant with live audiences too.

Would strictly ever do all-stars like DOI? I’d love to see Matt dancing again with Aliona but if series winners are asked to appear on the show I doubt that I would ever see Mattiona's amazing dance partnership again on the strictly dance floor if Harry got also invited. And I think, during strictly season, Matt could be busy with the coverage of Gymnastics World Championships finals – used to held between last week of September and first week of October and then followed by the preparation of the One Show team rickshaw challenge for CiN. And I want to see Matt hosting strictly when Bruce retired/stepped down. In my eyes he’s the prefect showman but again Bruce seems to be a life-time host of SCD! Never mind!

By the way, have you seen Matt and Louis did strictly stretch and Beth being lifted by the boys to the balero before Matt presenting World Gymnastics Championships AA final live last year? If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth watching their intro bits. It’s hilarious!

If you can spare time, it’s worth catching up on iplayer. Really funny and some dogs are well trained. Matt’d love it. I haven’t spotted Monte though. He’s such a massive dog so I am wondering how he would tackle the obstacles. He does love Matt tho.

Yes Zoe appeared in the same series as Ray - I was fairly certain she did but double checked on wiki to make sure. She got to the quarter finals and was eliminated at that stage. I remember her as a very bubbly, effervescent and enthusiastic character - I'd say she was decent performer/dancer and had a lovely partnership with Matt Evers but technically she wasn't the greatest skater - I think I remember there was quite a bit of criticisms of her on the forums for being pushed/pulled and lifted around by Matt and I think I remember on the required elements week she had to do an unassisted jump and her feet barely left the ice lol. However, overall I'd say she was a fairly good contestant and she should have got to the semis ahead of Colleen Nolan who imo was a rubbish skater/performer. Although Ray was great in his series he was rather overshadowed for me in that series by Donal Macintyre - I know he wasn't anywhere near as good as Ray but I just found him so lovely and charming and enjoyed his 'journey' so much. I was hoping to find the bit where Matt cheered Zoe on in the audience on youtube but sadly not many of Zoe's performances on DOI have been uploaded.

I was delighted that Ray won the champion of champions too - such a worthy champion and what a lovely gesture to give Maria the trophy at the end I echo your disappointment at Beth not going through to the next round to perform the Bolero - I really wanted to see her perform it with Lukasz - I so enjoyed her partnership with him even more than the one with Dan - I guess that Hayley went through because she's got quite a big fanbase from appearing in two major ITV soaps and Dan being one of the most popular pros too.

I'm not sure SCD would do an all stars - I guess that DOI did one because it was the last series and they wanted to go out with a bang but DWTS in America have done one - I'm not sure the one in America was such a great success but they did imo spoil it with some ill conceived wacky themes. I guess it's just wishful thinking on my part in wanting an all stars Strictly because I'd love to see Matt and some of my other favourite contestants return to the dance floor. If they did one I think Matt would be the ideal representative of the BBC because out of all the presenters they've had on the show he's the best dancer - I know Chris Hollins won his series but even so I don't think anyone could say he's a great dancer and even though he was lucky enough to win his series I doubt he's anywhere near as popular as Matt.
