Has anyone ever read/seen Matt’s charity page - Around the World in 80 Days 2009 in the aids of BBC CiN before? From his page, you would see donations from those he has closely worked with; starting from Jo Carlton, and then T4M; Ollie Williams, Christine Still and Craig Heap were among those who helped Matt fundraising. John C might have been John Craven, I reckon. Not too sure though.
My favourite on his page is Ollie W’s comments: “Good luck Matt! (Was going to add a gymnastics pun but all I can come up with is you setting a 'high bar' for yourself....) “ Seemed Ollie has learned puns from the master of the puns…hah…hah… possibly ever since they have worked together on the BBC Sports. ![]() Irresistibly having watched it back (thoroughly) and grabbed some screencaps halfway through, thanks to KK. According to Frank Skinner’s voiceover, Matt and Julia took on the most remote leg of all in Around the World in 80 Days. I now noted! And they did very well as it appealed to the viewing figures 4.2m (joint-highest of the entire program) as per statics on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_...009_TV_series) I genuinely think an hour episode of their leg is marketable. 14 days of relay against the clock supposed to cover 3700 miles (Kazakhstan-Russia-Mongolia-China) squeezed into an hour episode was fascinating to watch. Shamed their leg was a day cut short due to Louise and Bill didn’t get the visa to China where the handover to be taken place. I don’t remember the other 5 pairs and their legs vividly but I still remember Bill got a tooth broken. He showed it to Louise on the train when they’ve done their bits. The most nerve-wracking was Matt’s secret filming on his mobile in Russia while custom checking over every bit of equipment and stopped the crew filming. He was saying he would be in serious, serious trouble if they knew. Brave soul! Some screenshots here, credit to KK: At the discarded t0p secret site near S£m£y where the @tom1c b0mbs were tested during the c0ld w@r; was said to be highly radi0@ctive area. V optimistic Matt found it intriguing whereas Julia was v cautious! Having launch at the Trans-Siberian Express restaurant Matt made the waitress laugh with his animal impressions. Matt at the driving seat of the Trans-Siberian Express Frank Skinner: What I like about the trans-Siberian express is that there’s slightly devil may care attitude to who does the driving. Matt gave up the control but not a moment too soon... (They then saw a lady was on the track and a lucky escape!) ![]() Getting a dip in the deepest lake in the world - the Lake Baikal Enjoying freshwater fish (& chips?) the scarf too familiar to me ![]() Observing the local shaman’s meditation Crossing the Lake Baikal heading to Mongolia Secret filming again on the train plus chatting to one of the 17 Polish nationals they acquainted to. Reading Farmer Weekly On the horse back crossing the Mongolian plain Learning traditional Mongolian drink offer 1 Learning traditional Mongolian drink offer 2 First time ever milking the camel Funny lad! Listening to their guide singing a Mongolian song Singing ‘Take Me Home, Country Road’ 1 Singing ‘Take Me Home, Country Road’ 2 Enjoying the Mongolian long summer fare Never, ever ask a non-defeated Mongolian wrestling champion to show you a few moves! Mind you! Nose broken and bleeding! Still reassuring Julia that the guy hasn’t seen his moves yet! ![]() (Btw, I never noticed the camera zoomed in when he stripped off in front of Mongo audience and get ready to wrestle ) http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...7.jpg~original http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...8.jpg~original http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...9.jpg~original http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...0.jpg~original Julia: It was like watching Gangues Khan playing with his toddler. Matt: It felt like this. To be fair he was so solid. He just did move. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...1.jpg~original Phone call from Louise and Bill saying no visa got through to China http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...2.jpg~original http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...3.jpg~original Matt: I just sneezed. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...4.jpg~original Handover day http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...5.jpg~original Souvenirs on auction (Mongolian hat, the Russian toy, Kashmir blanket and the 80 days journal) http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...6.jpg~original http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...7.jpg~original It’s interesting who won the bidding and brought those souvenirs for fundraising - especially the hat he exchanged with his blood and sweat and the journal his topless photo at the Lake Baikal was on. No text or phone vote was available in 2009. Fundraising well and truly exceeded his target though. Not to check price index and present value of the money but a penny in 2009 would have been worth 5p of nowadays at least due to inflation rate getting higher. Will the beep can produce interesting program again like this one, that’s a good question! |

All gorgeous, thank you both very much ![]() Thank goodness Matt is back on Monday on TOS The Show has been a bit difficult to watch whilst he's been away, Matt A was fine but Richard M wasn't, and Vernon was tolerable. The weskits didn't sit so well on his frame sadly ![]() Looks a great CF tomorrow coming the from the Isles of Scilly, at least Matt won't look absolutely frozen as in some of the recent CFs The perils of filming in the wide open spaces of the countryside..... Hoping for good weather from now on so Matt can break out the T-shirts again He's a happy bunny here..... http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/512xn/p01xldv7.jpg Going to try and get on here a bit more....it's a good place to be

![]() A wonderful looking matt tonight, even if the razor has come out to play, nice bit of unbuttonage and rolled up sleeves, fabulous and a very bouncey matt, just gawgus. ![]() A good tos with brucie, bet they wish they hadn't asked him to show them his excise routine. He was in good form chatting away. bruce keeping quite on who he thinks might be the next host of strictly, funny that alex said that matt was free on Saturday, putting him up for the job, naughty bruce at the end, matt laughting and letting him go on and waving goodbye
