Next up - Countryfile on the 16th of February came from Wiltshire where Matt visits a pig farm and then eats the produce Weather was a bit soggy for this show so Matt is in waterproofs a fair bit.

Nice pics KK. Thank you. I do love his grey woolly hat. I’d want one for myself. He has a round nicely shaped head and it perfectly fitted in that hat . I felt for Matt and the CF crew filming rain or shine when I was nice and warm at home enjoyed watching the program.

Last of the February Countryfile episodes was the 23rd of February which came from the Isle of Portland in Dorset. Matt spent his time at Portland Bill where there are 3 lighthouses and a very nice cafe (Seriously nice - everything from breakfasts to fresh baked scones and proper fish & chips…). Julia nearly ended her Countryfile career in an ambulance after standing too close to the spinning lighthouse lantern but luckily Matt got her out the way in time

Has anyone ever read/seen Matt’s charity page - Around the World in 80 Days 2009 in the aids of BBC CiN before? From his page, you would see donations from those he has closely worked with; starting from Jo Carlton, and then T4M; Ollie Williams, Christine Still and Craig Heap were among those who helped Matt fundraising. John C might have been John Craven, I reckon. Not too sure though.
My favourite on his page is Ollie W’s comments:
“Good luck Matt! (Was going to add a gymnastics pun but all I can come up with is you setting a 'high bar' for yourself....) “
Seemed Ollie has learned puns from the master of the puns…hah…hah… possibly ever since they have worked together on the BBC Sports.

Irresistibly having watched it back (thoroughly) and grabbed some screencaps halfway through, thanks to KK. According to Frank Skinner’s voiceover, Matt and Julia took on the most remote leg of all in Around the World in 80 Days. I now noted! And they did very well as it appealed to the viewing figures 4.2m (joint-highest of the entire program) as per statics on wiki:

I genuinely think an hour episode of their leg is marketable. 14 days of relay against the clock supposed to cover 3700 miles (Kazakhstan-Russia-Mongolia-China) squeezed into an hour episode was fascinating to watch. Shamed their leg was a day cut short due to Louise and Bill didn’t get the visa to China where the handover to be taken place. I don’t remember the other 5 pairs and their legs vividly but I still remember Bill got a tooth broken. He showed it to Louise on the train when they’ve done their bits.

The most nerve-wracking was Matt’s secret filming on his mobile in Russia while custom checking over every bit of equipment and stopped the crew filming. He was saying he would be in serious, serious trouble if they knew. Brave soul!

Souvenirs on auction (Mongolian hat, the Russian toy, Kashmir blanket and the 80 days journal)

It’s interesting who won the bidding and brought those souvenirs for fundraising - especially the hat he exchanged with his blood and sweat and the journal his topless photo at the Lake Baikal was on. No text or phone vote was available in 2009. Fundraising well and truly exceeded his target though. Not to check price index and present value of the money but a penny in 2009 would have been worth 5p of nowadays at least due to inflation rate getting higher.

Will the beep can produce interesting program again like this one, that’s a good question!

Countryfile on the 2nd of March came from Kent where Matt visited the Isle of Sheppey and headed to a nature reserve and a lost village. Looks like it was a pretty horrible day for filming - lots of rain and cold/windy enough to bring tears to Matt’s eyes!

Thank goodness Matt is back on Monday on TOS The Show has been a bit difficult to watch whilst he's been away, Matt A was fine but Richard M wasn't, and Vernon was tolerable. The weskits didn't sit so well on his frame sadly

Looks a great CF tomorrow coming the from the Isles of Scilly, at least Matt won't look absolutely frozen as in some of the recent CFs The perils of filming in the wide open spaces of the countryside..... Hoping for good weather from now on so Matt can break out the T-shirts again

Lots of lovely mattage tonight, nice checked shirt and stubble. The ducklings were so cute, looked like matt enjoyed the duck as he didn't leave much, quite a few thudded ladies opening the door to matt delivering the milk

I have visited the gardens at tresco a couple of years ago, it's lovely, saw one of the golden crest pheasants

It’s the 16th of March on Countryfile and Matt and the team are on the Somerset Levels. They were there to highlight the flooding and how people were coping. It must have been difficult and time consuming to get between places for filming and I suspect the team spent a lot of time just helping out rather than filming too…

I am not sure Matt has his own fire rescue / RNLI outfits but as we all knew he has already covered some stories related to RNLI/flood rescue. Learning lifesaving skills with RNLI in the Falls of Lora at Loch Etive and the hovercraft rescue at Morecambe were the episodes I clearly remember cos they have been repeated more than once. There was another CF episode Matt covering a story relating the flood defences but couldn’t recall where it was filmed. All I remember was Julia got the fireman lift twice and a lady asking Matt an autograph for her SIL while the crew filming them. Anyway he looked great in those outfits! Thanks for doing the picspam KK. Nice ones!

Thanks for the great round the world pics, don't think we'll see him in swimming shorts again any time soon, but you can always hope that he will surprise us tho.

It’s Sunday the 30th of March and Matt is once more back on the family farm in County Durham for lambing season. The alleged connection being Mother’s Day (even though it was film 2 weeks before that happened! )
