It's impossible to predict.

He gave a decent enough press conference today.

The guy is an arse but what he said about getting a system to fit the players was largely correct. If he picks the best players and puts them in a decent system then no one can ask for more than that. Whether that's good enough to get any sort of results is another matter.
Never before thought this but I hope he fails. I'd be embarrassed to have him represent Scotland at a world cup or European championship.

I can't stand the guy but we really can't afford to sink any lower than we have so I hope he manages to do something positive. However I know that I'm only one smart-arse interview away from wanting him to fall on his backside!

A shocking attitude. You hope Scotland fail because you don't like someone

It's not that unreasonable, international football is an increasing irrelevance anyway.

Why would you be embarrased watching your national team at a major championship?

I couldn't do it with United. I loathed McCall & Chisholm at United but I still cheered on the team.

He was just using a public urinal and it was on the big screen inside. Don't be so hard on him, Bhoy

It is fairly obvious that Cantona07 and jill1812 are a couple of bigots who are letting their club allegiances get in the way of things.

Seriously though, WGS can be quite a dislikeable character. Jill's comment about how she'd be embarrassed watching Scotland at a major tournament, they haven't qualified for one in 15 years, if WGS was in charge are pretty hysterical though.

But that isn't what she said! That's what someone misquoted her as saying. She didn't say she would be embarrassed watching Scotland at a major tournament, she said she would be embarrassed to have Strachan representing Scotland as coach at a major tourney , which is a totally different thing!

I don't think my opinion of him as a person will have a huge impact on him or his potential for success.

However, I have already posted saying I hope he does well but regardless I don't see why I should (or how I can) change my opinion of him simply because he has got the national job.

If Scotland qualify for a major championship with Strachan at the helm then any Scotland fan who is embarrassed to have him represent Scotland must be off their heads.

Of course, the reality is that Scotland won't qualify with Strachan at the helm anyway,

You wouldn't cringe a bit to have his "witty" remarks and small man syndrome representing us across the world if we somehow qualified? Some of the stuff he came out with at Celtic was pretty hellish.

That's said though you're right, there's more chance of me getting to spend my HMV vouchers than there is of Scotland reaching a major tourney any time soon!

Strachan will lead Scotland to a major finals, while annoying everyone along the way.

Odds on Hoof and Heid being reunited in the centre of defence?

I think he would get a free pass for those comments due to what he had done in getting Scotland through to a major championship.

Maybe it would help if Jill was to explain why she hopes that Strachan's reign is as succesful as that of Potter's? Surely she doesn't want his reign to be an abject failure because of a couple crappy retortes he has given to journalists?

Let's hope does qualify or we stuck with him for the full fortnight on tv being a pundit.

dont really know what to say about some of the posts wanting strachan to fail just because he might say something cringeworthy in an interview apart from it being a bit of a disgrace.

i didnt like burley or avril but i never wished they would fail just so they couldnt embarass us on the international stage(which they did on a regular basis)

Has anyone heard of a rumour about Kostas Mitroglou (Olympiakos striker) and a move to Celtic? It was all over the greek news on Monday but I haven't seen anything in the papers in the UK. Any links would be appreciated if they can find them.

ah ok, the news was that Celtic had made an offer of €3.5m and it had been rebuffed. I think it's the fevered imaginations of a greek journalist as I can't find any trace of it in either Daily Mail or the Daily Record, the two papers quoted for the report in Greece.
