when LIVINGSTON were liquidated in 2009 and demoted to the third division, they started their scottish cup in the second round!

NO ONE is exempt from his rule

Liquidation was never completed, the proceedings stopped the following day - but they were relegated nonetheless.

Nearest example to a club going down the NewCo route is Airdrie United.

But who was the history bought from?

“Rangers can't compete in Europe because accounts weren't produced (this happened in Whyte's time, well before Green's company took on the running of the club).”

The accounts need to go back three years, this predates both Whyte, and the new club.

New world record no doubt.

1) Livingston weren't liquidated
2) They finished 7th in Division 1, so no rule exempted them from a certain round

Simple fact - if The Rangers were the same club as Rangers, they would not have needed to apply to join the SFL, nor would they have competed in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup.

At least if it goes ahead for the season after, next season can be interesting with a one off format for the restructing of the SPL and SFL.”

I have seen this argument a few times and I really don't get it. How would it be better to have a full season of meaningless games? Surely it's better that most of this season's games were played as if they were competitive rather than have a whole season of games where the teams and fans know there is nothing to play for.

But you would make the format for the reorganisation so that it wasn't meaningless.

You would involve the SFL3 champions to make sure the whole of SFL3 next season isn't pointless.

Its not Rangers fault there is no pyramid system in Scotland. Therefore they had to re enter the SFL3. Clubs such as Spartans could have also applied for the vacancy, but it would have ignored the fact that there isn't automatic promotion and relegation anyway. BTW lets say that Spartans did apply and entered SFL3 in place of Rangers, wouldn't that leave the problem of Rangers still applying next season and every season to get in SFL3.

No, because that isn't the way Scottish football works.

A team can only apply if the league was being extended or if a side went out of business and a replacement was needed. Last season when Rangers went they didn't offer to accept bids such was their haste to get the new club in their ranks.

But how is the existing system fair to Spartans in the first place then. Last time when Annan were accepted there were 4 other clubs that also applied for the place. Surely those 4 clubs (of which Spartans were one) have been frozen out of the Scottish League. That is a problem that existed long before Rangers applied to get into SFL3.

There was realistically no other option but for Rangers to enter SFL3. Thats the lowest level of the pyramid system.

Who said it was fair?

If the SFL had invited bids then The Rangers would have easily won, there is no doubt of that.

Yes, the SFL should have asked for bids for this season when Rangers were liquidated and two teams went from the SFL into the SPL.

I would have had no issues at all about Rangers then being chosen, they would have been the obvious choice. But partly no doubt because of timescales ( but also likely because it was Rangers ) proper procedure went out the window.

The Third Division title has already been won with all the games up to now being played as competitive matches. There is no need to mess with next season. Having a season where the team finishing in 33rd place is promoted above the team finishing 24th is ridiculous. The best way to get to 12,12,18 is to do it for the start of next season and avoid a season of friendlies or over-promoting the Div Three winners.

Exactly, if it was any other team than Rangers no one would be battering an eyelid, but some see this as a chance to fast track them back into the SPL.

I keep hearing everything is in place for 12/12/18, just needs voted in, but noone answered my query as to how the extra two teams will be found for the second tier if it was brought in for next season.

Is that clear in the proposals or are they going to decide it once the various finishing positions are known ?

eg. is the bottom first division team still relegated, saved or go into some play-off ?

My guess would be 3 promoted, then a play-off between 9th and 4th.

Assuming 10th is still relegated.

According to the proposals:
"If the SPL and SFL vote to approve new plans for the 2013-14 season, there will be no automatic relegation from the First Division this term and no relegation play-off involving the side that finishes ninth.

That, in turn, would require an extra team to be entered into the play-off for the second promotion spot from the Second Division."

St Johnstone and Ross County Top 6 spots are now secure following the Saints 1-1 draw with D'Utd.

Kilmarnock need to beat either St Mirren or Dundee to secure the final top 6 spot.

We're down anyway...an extra home derby would be nice for the coffers...

Inverness, Ross County and St Johnstone ( and possibly Kilmarnock ) in the top 6. Who'd have thought ?!
