Douglas Rae has said he will not be funding full time football next season if SPL2 or other changes dont happen
I tend to take Douglas saying this with a pinch of salt as he has constantly said for the last 7-8 years that if crowds dont improve Morton will be a part time team but then never does it.

The elephant in the room for me is that the focus is on the league structure rather than the quality of what is on the park. I appreciate that the two are intertwined but the fact remains that if the football is shite no league structure however conveluted is going to cover that up.
I remember the days when it was said that we need a league with more (essentially meaningless) matches so that clubs wouldnt have the "fear factor" and could bring through youngsters and play better football.
Then it is said that we need a more competative league with matches that have something riding on them so that its more exciting and draws people in.
Now we have reached the stage where as daft as the current split is we are looking for even more conplicated ways of changing the set up to detract from the fact that the truth of the matter is that the football just isnt all that good.

How could the "middle 8" keep their points? Inevitably the teams from the top of the "Championship" would have more than the teams from the bottom of the "Premiership".
You could possibly keep points gained against the teams that have joined you from your own league, but I'm not convinced that's much fairer.
Maybe we should start awarding bonus points to teams who score x amount of goals in a single game.
Encourage attacking football and bring the crowds in.

But that happens at the moment, with the present split system. Teams in 7th or 8th often have more points than those in 5th or 6th.
For this reason, I actually think that the present arrangement is not ideal. It would be better if a top 6 team played two matches against other top 6 teams, and three matches against bottom 6 teams, with the important proviso that points earned would be meaningful for the whole league, ie a top 6 placing after 33 games might not end up in the top 6.
We've all seen matches at the end of a season (in proper leagues) where a team at the bottom of a league have beaten a team at the top in a desperate effort to avoid relegation.
We just don't get these games in the SPL because the top 6, and bottom 6 have been decided 5 games earlier.

The SFA have offered to mediate in the reconstruction talks, to act in the best interests of the game. not to force it through.

The top 8 have all been competing against the same clubs, i.e. the 12 members of the top tier.
And the bottom 8 have all been competing against the clubs in the second tier.
So, it makes perfectly good sense for them to carry forward their points and base their final position on the full 36 matches rather than just the last 14.
But the middle 8 has come from two separate tiers, one clearly stronger than the other ( essentially the top 4 Tier 2 teams will have many more points than the bottom 4 Tier 1 teams ) so it is totally impractical and unfair for them to carry forward their points hence they start again from scratch.
I very much dislike the 8/8/8 business, but it is perfectly logical why the middle 8's points are wiped and not the other two 8s.

That wouldd be a non starter for a few reasons smaller clubs would complain about only one trip to Celtic Park and ibrox when the Rangers are back in top flight action,also playing 2 old firm games away from home in a season wouldn't work as one set of fans would see it as an advantage. I'm for getting rid of the split though its a joke.

Why would you clean the slate "for competitiveness" when there is no need to do it ( for the top and bottom 8s ) and all have been playing the same teams ??
OK, let's just clean the slate of all leagues half way or over half way through the season. Man U, forget that lead you built up, that was just a sort of lead up, once everyone has played each other once, you are all going back to zero, will make it more "competitive"

they cant keep changing leauge format every few years...get a set up with no split...make a rule saying format can never be changed again , and try and get fans through the turnstiles to save the game...not changing structures to mask the fact

It's a good point - what if a match between 11th and 12th was postponed but it didn't need to be played before the split?
The outcome literally meant nothing. No points to gain, no goal difference to be effected...nothing.
what if the teams in 9th place and 8th place had a few games postponed.....it would cause the whole of scottish football to grind to a halt untill the 2 clubs played their games to decide where they are placed for split
also what if the team in 9th place was like 30 points clear of 10th place...
