I won't be watching, but I'm just curious at to how exactly Celebrity Apprentice works? I can't really imagine it somehow... I can see that it's celebs doing the tasks instead of ordinary people, but under what grounds does the boss do the hiring and firing? At the end of the tasks on the normal show, I can understand Sugar/Trump/whoever thinking, 'If they can't do that, how are they ever going to work with me/run their business?' and making the decision of who to get rid of like that. And how is the winner chosen? Presumably it's not a serious job offer/business investment, so it's not going to make any difference whatsoever to Trump who wins. Does he just choose a random person at the end?

This is why I'm thankful we've never had a celeb series in the UK (I know we've had a couple of charity ones, but they weren't full series.) I don't think a full celebrity series would work with Sugar really, and he's said as much in interviews.

It's all for charidee

The winning projecting has something like 20 grand for any proceeds from their task donated to their chosen charity

The winner of the final task gets a much larger sum for their charity

The "firing" process stays the same

Having seen CA3 when it first aired I would put the series last of the 5 celebrity series so far but it does still have a lot of entertainment going for it, Cyndi Lauper in particular is absolute gold in this one.

As verence says above, all proceeds go to charity... it's a decent format, but has a number of fundamental flaws.

There are 2 sorts of challenges; "prize money" tasks, where the winner gets (say) $20,000 for their charity, and the sponsor of the task (and this show has the most blatant product placement I've ever seen) invariably adds a similar amount. The other sort of task is open-ended "fund-raising", where (basically) the celebs call on their famous friends to chip in money for whatever their task is (paying $10,000 for a hot dog, for instance.) This is where the real money is made, some competitors pulling in hundreds of thousands of dollars for their charities, which is fine, but some contestants clearly hold back, waiting for their turn (which may never come, of course), as they know that even their richest pals will only get out their cheque book once! Also, the winning team gets ALL the prize money, which can really be a blow to the losing star who may have called in a lot of personal favours during the task, but whose charity ends up with nothing... it would be a lot fairer if all the prize money went into a "fund" which was divided up at the end of the series, the winner's charity getting (say) 50%, 2nd place getting 20%, 3rd place getting 10% and so on.

Also, the quality of the "celebrities" can be very variable - the new upcoming season is an "all star" one featuring previous contestants, amply demonstrating that the well of willing entrants has apparently already run dry

The current rumour is that NBC is going to can The Apprentice after the upcoming season, and that the only reason they're even bothering with a new one this year is that they commissioned two seasons after Celebrity Apprentice 4 was a surprise hit. That and I guess Trump is taking one last shot at getting Omarosa to be the winner.

Scary thing is, I believe that would leave the UK Apprentice as the last version still running...

The line up for this one doesn't look very good but Season 5 would be worth watching if they ever show that.

Rock solid as a team name??? In a reference it means dull.

Hi, just started watching, but can't remember who's who. Thought the Diabetic interesting as his food requirements would be different to the others.

That blonde didn't think much of rissoto, but it could work.

Poor ole Cyndi, tongue tied, but what she could have done was to give Donald Jr food, then hovered around his area, as she did her job.

Truffles and riso...very expensive...

Its all a bit silly when you can have the best product, happiest customers and fullest restaurant and lose because the other team got someone richer to turn up and throw money at them.

Yep, agree with Joan, as you wouldn't charge $100 for a burger. Why not charge normal prices so that the less wealthy get a look in, and be part of the scene.

However my impression re this charity show doesn't sit well, and it's not my idea of the Apprentice I've seen for years. Giving to Charity is good, but don't think it should be done via a show like the Apprentice.

Agree, and still feel show's name should be changed to something more fitting than it being associated with the Apprentice.

Its basically just a bit mean and very random. Trump could give the winner 100k himself and they could just work on normal apprentice terms with no phone or net contacts to pull buddies in with to determine who it was.The show must pay enough to bring in 100k. But they insist on seeing who has the richest friends, with nothing else to do, who haven't fallen out with Trump.

Just watched the us apprentice
Carol didnt seem to do much wrong to be honest.
She did what she was asked to do, that holly wasn't doing much apart from swiping cards.
Swiping cards a pretty easy job lol
Although carol didn't do much defending of herself did she? Pretty weak
The person who should have gone was Cyndi for those ridiculous prices too low for what the task was about.

Watched this tonight fully expecting to hate it, but I actually completely loved it! I kinda just thought of it as a different show to the UK Apprentice as it is completely different, UK Apprentice has a lot more credibility and is actually valid to the real business world, whereas this has neither but is a great entertainment show and it's really interesting to watch the celebrities, I especially love Cyndi Lauper and Sharon Osbourne! On another note I think Alan Sugar is a much better figure than a Donald Trump, Trump seems weaker and fawns too much over certain celebrities *cough* Cyndi *cough*

Much more difficult to enjoy this after watching the doco last year with Trump trying to ethnically cleanse an area of Scotland so his golf course didn’t overlook any poor folk who’d been there for decades. The Hair, his oily son and even uber-hot Ivanka came across very badly in the film but the most disgust had to be reserved for Trump’s fawning lackeys and the politicians and councillors eager to blindly suck at the Trump teat [insert vomit smilie here].

Shouldn't this thread be in the US reality shows section?

I'll say! So much ego stroking and tears, with everyone tripping over one another to apologise in case they've inadvertently offended! I can't imagine Lord Sugar saying - "it's okay to cry!" Anyway I'm so glad I watched last night - very entertaining. Michael Johnson, seems so easy going whenever he's on TV commentating, but he was a real hard task master! I wish the rocker guy, Brett was it? Could have stood up for himself in the boardroom!
