Wagner Sky Arts 2
Sky Arts 2 are dedicating a month to Wagner.
They are screening Robert Lepage's production of the Ring Cycle from the Met. Das Rheingold was shown yesterday but gets a repeat on Tuesday starting 8:15am. There is another repeat on Saturday at 2pm. The second part, Die Walkure, starts next Sunday at 8pm. Same pattern of repeats for this as well. Tuesday am and the following Saturday in the afternoon. Imagine it will be the same for the other parts as well. They are also showing Tony Palmer's Wagner. A drama from 1982-83 starring Richard Burton, John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier. This starts on Saturday 8pm - 11pm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagner_(film)) This will be shown in three parts. I don't know if this is the original version which was planned to be over 7hrs long. Or if it is the edited for TV version that runs for around 5hrs. They are showing a HD version so I'm thinking it will be the original 7hr version. NB Lepage's version at the Met has been panned mercilessly by the critics. So no idea how it transfers to the small screen. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blog...e-critics.html Really looking forward to the Richard Burton drama though. Haven't seen that before. |
