Rats deserting a sinking ship?
At least I have the first two series well and truly archived.
I can see the third series being scrapped before it begins, I hope it does, I would prefer it to go out on a high.
Jumping the shark? Yes it looks like it ... But I cannot say I am surprised because the dynamic is so close. Especially after the second series. But you know, we'll see what happens... They may well bring in new faces (after all it is hard on Dwayne and Fidel to be ALWAYS on call - come on ... health and safety!!!!)

Slightly different though because regeneration is a vaguely plausible plot device in a sci-fi serialisation. Not so much in a real world scenario.
How about James Bond then?

(Yes, I just watched "Skyfall" )

Sara Martins (Camille) knows the end is near, she is to star in a series on French TV.
Proves nothing. I think she can make more than one TV show a year.

Rats deserting a sinking ship?
No. Just one person, as far as we know.

James Bond doesn't work as a comparison either ... Both Doctor Who and Bond remain the central character, with the actors portraying them changing.
Here we have the central character leaving and being replaced with. Humphrey! (Ha - showing my age - anyone remember those Humphrey ads???)
And you have reminded me that I need to order Skyfall as no-one bought it for me off my Birthday list in March!!! Hobbits and Spider-Man just were no match for a ruggedly gorgeous Daniel Craig!!!

Re: Martins - Granted - my French is conversational at best, but it honestly sounded more to me that this was a new longer term venture (I guess if it takes off as a series in France). This is something like her third or fourth casting as some kind of law enforcement officer! Typecasting, much

Re: Carr - unless Julian Fellowes has suddenly decided to be uber generous to others filming schedules (which I doubt, fro what I know of him) I suspect Fidel will need to be written out too - promotion to Guadeloupe maybe?
So I make that two, potentially three character changes - It may not be a bad thing though.

The Radio Times said that fans deserved better than a reboot of the original premise (English fish out of water, yada yada) so maybe this will give the writers a chance to establish Marshall and build a new ensemble around him. After all, they will hope to get more success out of the whole Midsomer-sur-la-Mer ideal, and the format will most likely stay the same in terms of murder of the week.

Fans' perspectives will be fairly binary as we know ... But the production company will purely regard this on a commercial basis.

Ahhh the fun of the speculation, at least until production starts and we pick up more snippets from various sites/news.

Just to go OT slightly for a sec. I just watched it this weekend and wasn't that impressed. Yes, the 'set pieces' were fantastic as usual but the rest was a bit of a let-down. Not really a patch on the older films.

Just my opinion

OT - I just found it intriguing to have such a camp baddie ... I thought it was one of the best I'd seen - especially if I compare it to something like Quantum of Solace - which ironically I thought the same as you for that!!!

Back on topic - found a snippet from when S2 aired from the Daily Fail

France (and presumably the DomToms) doesn't worry about health and safety. I think they view h&s precautions as interfering with natural, Darwinian, selection for the gene pool...

Far more importantly for Dwayne and Fidel - France is very fond of its 35-hour week...

The resurrection of this thread reminds me that Meurtres au Paradis is showing on French tele at the moment - 3 episodes back to back but it clashes with 3 b-to-b episodes of Engrenages on Canal+, series 3, I think. Cadfael and CSI Miami on other channels...... should anyone be interested...

Why not repeat series 1 in HD, who wants to see series 2 only 5 months after the original broadcast, pathetic.

A bit too early to be repeating Series 2, I think. Why don't they repeat some Series 1 episodes?

Yeah, I only got into the show this series so when I saw it in the listings I hoped it was series 1, no such luck.

I didn't watch this weeks's episode because I've seen series 2 but it seems from the listings that it isn't on next week. What are the schedulers playing at?

Yes, I love this show.

Lovely characters and I love the location. I've been to the Caribbean twice and that vibe you get when you are there, it stays with you forever.

I don't think they will do a good job with the story line.

I've packed my cattle prod, and I'm going to go and enjoy the sunshine, "vibes" and get myself a job as an extra!

I'm really looking forward to the next series. I'm looking forward to seeing Kris Marshall as the main character. I did like Ben Miller in the role as Richard, but I don't think he will leave too much of a gaping hole in the series. I think Kris Marshall is perfect to replace him - he's a good comic actor, suited to this type of role and I really enjoyed him in My Family. Looking forward to seeing how he bounces off Camille and the rest of the team.

What makes the series for me are the mysteries and the lovely backdrop.

I didn't know Ben was leaving, he makes the series for me.
