I have a ticket for the first show

I've never won a ticket in a ballot for anything - ever. Really excited

The production company runs a ballot for places in the studio audience. They then send a email ticket to those who have been successful although I will need to make sure I am there early as they issue more tickets than there are places to cover off the possibility of no shows.

Don't let the prospect of a bit of rain dampen your excitement, please give Jason an extra loud boo from me!

If you take a brolly make sure it's a small folding one as they don't allow the big brollies in studio, if its the same as it used to be there won't be any toilets until the portaloos turn about around 4pm.
Also no food or drink allowed in but they used to have a bottle of water under your seat once you get in sometimes you also get a doughnut at the break.
If you do get in its totally brilliant

Hope you come back and tell us all about it. I'm sure the wait will be worth seeing it all live.

Thank you. That's good to know as I was planning on taking my big umbrella since they didn't mention any restrictions in the e-ticket guidance.

Done...several times He comes across as even more of an idiot in the studio as he does on the TV

Well, by some miracle I managed to actually get in...by an even bigger miracle I was sat rinkside

The first thing I would say is how much smaller it is in the studio than it appears on the TV. The audience seating area is actually really small, just two banks of seats either side of Philip and Christine's stage.

The other side of the rink has no audience at all, the whole of that side is taken up by technicians, cameras, directors etc. When the skaters present themselves before starting their routine, they actually have their backs to the audience as they face the cameras.

The whole area is really compact with only some cloth separating the way into the seating to the back of the ice rink where the skaters come in. One of the skaters went the wrong way and had to be sent back. I didn't see who it was though - just the back of her as she went back the way she had come.

The spotlight operaters are based in each corner of the rink and have to climb up a rope ladder to get to a cradle hung from the rafters.

The standard of the skating seems much higher and much more even watching it live. You can appreciate the speed across the ice much more and it all seems to be over so quickly that it is impressive that the judges have time to come up with things to say, although I am sure most of Jason's stuff is prescripted. That 'bored to Beth' comment went down very badly with the studio audience.

We went into the studio around 4.30 and for about an hour before the show goes out on TV there are some bits that get pre-recorded like Jane Torvill being hoisted up in the gold dress and jumping into the arms of the pro skaters. This was actually done in 2 sections and pieced together.

We don't get the ad breaks in the studio. During the time the ads are on the next celeb is warming up on the ice so we get to see that instead.

I was also surprised to find that the bit where Phillip says "these 6 celebs earlier skated for your vote" is pre recorded at the end of the first segment of the show. It isn't done live at the start of the skate off part of the programme.

Overall I very much enjoyed the experience, even if it was a very cold day and I had quite a long wait.

I'm sure there are lots of other things I could say so if anyone has any questions, please ask

Glad you enjoyed - & lucky you getting rinkside seats. Did you meet/speak with any of the celebs or pros?

Good of you to impart detail especially since you are clearly not the first on here to attend.

Not on a one to one basis but Samia came over to the side of the rink at the end of the first part of the show to ask if we had all enjoyed it.

Being the first show, there were lots of friends and family of the celebs and the pro skaters in the audience yesterday so having chatted to us for a minute or two she then climbed up a few steps of the bank of seats to speak to her fan club. Then she called Beth over as her boyfriend (or least I hope that's who it was) was in the audience so Beth came over and climbed over into the seating area to have an embrace with him.

Pamela skated around a bit at the end after the show went off air and was given a good send off by the crowd. I think she was quite upset.

Yes, it was via SRO. I've been applying for years too and this is the first time I have got lucky so all I can say is keep trying

It was a close run thing between Beth and Matt. Matt made a fairly major mistake right in front of me so I would probably go with Beth on balance. Besides, Jason's 'Bored to Beth' comment really annoyed me (and most of the rest of audience for that matter) and, although I don't normally let such things cloud my judgement, in this case I might make an exception.

However, I thought they were all pretty good. Seeing them live is a great leveller as I think you can appreciate the skill in the performance a bit better than on the TV.

Thanks so much natalian (and all!) for your info on the live DOI experience

I'm so excited - my lovely husband has scored us tickets for this Sunday!

I'd be really grateful for any more you can fill me in about the waiting bit, such as what time you got there - is it advised to be much earlier than the time they say on the e-letter? And how much standing about is there once you're booked in? I'm asking because I had a rather nasty operation at Christmas and I'm still pretty wobbly ... But I really don't want to miss this!

If there's any other gen you can give me that you haven't already mentioned earlier in the thread, I'd be very grateful

Thanks so much!

I don't have any experience of going to see the show, but it is there any way you can contact them and tell them that because of your operation you aren't able to stand for long and see if they can fast track you inside? or if they can't do that at least provide you with something to sit on!

There is a space for entering other information on the application form so you could enter this information there. I don't know if they would do anything about it though - if you are lucky they might allocate you a priority ticket.

There is nothing to stop you taking something with you to sit on although it would either need to fold up pretty small if you were going to take it into the studio or if you went by car you could leave it in your car after you had been allocated your wristband.
