In case anyone is interested in a starter model to play around with, this was posted on Hot UK Deals

http://dx.com/p/u2-mini-android-4-0-...iii-1gb-145864

OS Android 4.0
Chipset Allwinner A10 / Cortex A8
Processor Frequency 1.5GHZ
RAM DDR III 1GB
Internal Memory 4GB
Memory Card Type Supports Micro SD / TF card up to 32GB
Expansion Slot USB 2.0
Audio Format MP3 / WMA / 3GP / WAV
Video Format AVI / RM / RMVB / MKV / WMV / MOV
Output Resolution 1080P
Picture Formats JPEG / BMP / PNG / GIF
It's apparently rooted out of the box so is flashable. With a single core, it's obviously going to be no good for any major gaming, but as a basic starter package to make your TV "smart", 13 quid can't really be beaten IMO.

I've seen them on ebay for this price over the last few weeks as I was tempted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4GB-Androi...item2ec4dc7015 ,
however i was bit dubious as the seller has W7 tablets for under 50. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-N450-W...item2ec4dc6efe
which just seems too cheap to be real to be honest, but has lots of stars and feedback etc however it seemed they were using same pictures as another seller who has sold fake items.

I was thinking about one of these but I was wondering about the whole flash and android thing again, as a lot of certain tv/video streaming sites still use flash. However I did see some people had rooted them to run ubuntu where they have not had the above problem. May just hang back and see where it all goes for a bit, i do have a HTPC under the telly which is faster and runs w7 but those android sticks are new tech and things to play with etc etc

You can flash Linux on to these - found a review that had a link to show you how. There's a specific custom rom for it as well that apparently improves the overall speed of it.

I'll dig out the links..

here we go .. here's the review

http://www.squidoo.com/uhost-android-mini-pc-review

You can put Lubuntu, Puppy and Fedora on it apparently. Still reading up on the finer points though, but I've still ordered one.

This is a video of it in action

Obviously being operated by Arnold Schwarzenegger

According to the Wiki, it should run ..

XBMC for Android should run on the Allwinner A10 devices (Android support is still evolving, so take this with a gain of salt). In addition to this, there is an effort to get XBMC for Linux to run on Allwinner A10 devices as well.
.. but then I guess if you can flash linux on to it, it might be a better solution.

I was thinking about reflashing with linux would be the best bet. If somebody actually did the linux and XBMC stuff together and put out a custom ROM that would be useful.
