Band Aid II (1989)

Anybody remember this song?

First time I heard it I found it very bad, but it's grown on me and I am always playing it on a CD now...

Much better than Band Aid 20 but still not a touch on the original.

They've played it about 3/4 times whilst I've watched TMF this past week...........everybody says it was a crap version, but I've heard a lot worst Xmas songs in the past.

Well, it's better than the abomination that is Band Aid 20.

I heard Band Aid 2 for the first time in full since 1989 on Colin and Edith earlier. Didn't sound too bad, obviously you can tell it's a SAW hit.

The test of time will see Band Aid 2 and 3/20 regarded in the same esteem, it's just the artists on the latter are more credible *at the moment*.

However, nothing will ever beat the original.

I personally think Band Aid II Is worse than the latest one. It defeats the object of the original by having Kylie in it, who is not from the British Isles!

I hate most of Kylie's music.....but I hear she is actually half welsh/half aussie.

Apparently has a welsh grandmother, hardly makes her half Welsh!!

The 89 version is shite, hardly the point though is it? Starving people are hardly going to turn down food raised by the record on the grounds that it is shite are they?

Cliff Richard also sang on that record - he was born in India.

Katie Melua isn't English, where are the Beddingfields from and coming to think of it, where's Bono from??? Dublin - not in the british isles either.

I bought this single on 7" vinyl when it came out.
A cheesy pic of Kyle and Bros amongst others surrounded by a green border. Pete Waterman hey
Still at least no cr*p rap bit in it.

Neither is Bob Geldorf. The fact he is Irish was the reason he could not call himself 'Sir' Bob Geldof.

But not everyone from the original Band Aid was British. JT Taylor of Kool and the Gang was part of the ensemble.

Band Aid 2 was excellent. After hearing alot when it was released, I finally heard it more this year on TMF and other music channels, and it's way better than the new Band Aid 20 single.

I think there is too much music "snobbery" around, especially with SAW hits of the time. There were some really great pop songs released by SAW, and this was one of them.

Remember, music is meant to be enjoyed, it doesnt have to be deep and meaningful all the time!. And, at the end of the day Band Aid 2 was a great pure-pop song, and the money went to a good cause.

That's the only part of your post I agree with. SAW were and always will be terrible. Snobbery does not even enter the equation - they just were dire. The writing was kindergarton stuff. The only track I remotely liked of their's was Roadblock.

Remember the genius lines "Golden oldies, Rolling Stones, we don't want them back - I'd rather jack - than Fleetwood Mac", by the Reynolds Girls - they are probably working in their local Tesco's now....... Lindsay Buckingham is sunning it up in Bel Air and The Rolling Stones are still the highest grossing live act of all time.
