Orange Direct-Debit When Account Is In Credit?

Hey!

My brother has a £36 a month contract with Orange and he has made manual payments so the account is £190 in credit (as his wage changes so he didn't want a DD). However he is being charged about £3.50 as a non-DD charge...

So if he set up a direct debit that would remove the charge but would that then start charging his card or would it not charge the card anything as the account is in credit (so would it use the credit until there is none left?

Also would he still be able to make manual payments to put the account in credit with another debit card even if there is a DD set up?

Don't know anything about Orange hence why im asking. cheers.

If he signs up for DD then he wouldnt face the charge.
He wouldn't receive any charges to his back account if his Orange Account is in credit. After this it would automatically come out his bank statement.
