its only in recent years that the concept of 'free' software updates became available and its now considered the norm !
Personally if I buy a Nexus device id hope it would be supported/updated for a couple of years. Do I expect it to be updated forever ? No.
If all phones were supported 'forever' then the software would have to be very restricted to allow it to run on older handsets and would be less innovative and forward facing.
Manufacturers have to build something into their model to encourage people to upgrade to a new unit after a reasonable amount of time.
Dont forget that your phone doesnt suddenly become worse than it was when you bought it. You simply dont get further updates.....
If you dont buy a Nexus then you factor in likliehood of updates into your purchase decision.
At least my Gnex will get one last software update next year and have ALL the features of the new OS (obviously hardware dependent) ....... Just in time for me to buy next years Nexus when my tariff is done
