I read what they said as meaning, they wanted the best of both worlds, as in both.

Actually, I think a few more producers are going down that route. It makes a great deal of sense.

No reason to use wired networking unless you have very specific security concerns, but tablets and phones connect to wifi routers in the same way as laptops or PCs - so just buy yourself an iPad/Nexus7/any tablet you want (do not buy one on a contract), and connect it up with the wifi key from your home router, job done!”

I can think of one reason to still use wired. If you want to stream HD movies over your network? Even with wireless N, unless you have a solid connection (eg no solid walls in the way) it stutters. For that reason we bought some devices that use the mains sockets to deliver data. In the old days they were called Homeplugs, but there are newer and better devices now. They still have some headroom loss, but on a 100meg connection I would expect at least 80meg.

We use them to stream video content from the main PC (located upstairs) to the PS3, to watch via HDMI on the main TV. Watching a 1080p movie this way is very fluid. You can even search at 10x speed. Watching via wifi, it stutters, and if you get more thaN 1.5 search speed, you are doing very well.

As for iPad: terrific display, no connectivity. My Iconia A510 has HDMI and USB hub capability.
