Haim and Palma Violets must have amazing press agents.
I'm hearing so much hype about these two bands recently. They're all over BBC and NME. I don't get it? They sound pretty mediocre and samey to me I'm sorry. But I bet they must have the most wonderful publicists.

Both are actually quite good judging by what we've heard so far, they're just suffering from the insane desire from the music press to be ahead of the curve in terms of what's coming next. Both are relatively decent acts, just suffering from massive over-hyping (to the degree I've only seen Frank Ocean & the Arctic Monkeys come out of unscathed in recent years). As soon as we get full releases they'll be written off as disappointing (Little Boots, Michael Kiwanuka) or overly commercial (Emeli, Jessie J) I guess, so the bands may as well make the most of the good press while it's still happening.

I don't actually know who Frank Ocean is yet...
Speaking of up and coming artists, this guy Daley who did that song with Jessie J seems to have appeared out of nowhere, or did I miss a whole load of promo somewhere? I saw the song by chance on Youtube and I thought it was pretty good. Never heard of either Haim or Palma Violets myself either apart from that Haim just topped the sound of 2013 poll, I thought it wouldve been AlunaGeorge, haha |

I think with Haim it's as much to do with the image, been a while since an all female indie-ish pop band came along who play instruments etc so it's something a bit different, and music bloggers/journalists love that. Although I do think the music is pretty decent as well.
Palma Violets just sound like some C86 indie throwback to me, nothing really interesting at all. |

I agree. Haim are just a sixth-form B*witched, and don't get me started on Palma Violets. Dreadful Libertines worshipers (and they were appalling too).

Palma Violets are the latest act managed by Jeannette Lee.
Seeing how she has previously managed Public Image Ltd; The Smiths; The Sundays; The Cranberries; Pulp; The Libertines & Duffy then it is easy to see why the indie hipsters/music press have automatically taken note. Personally I rate "Best of Friends", "Last of the Summer Wine" and "Tom the Drum" highly. To me they remind me of The Horrors meets The Hives. |

Unfortunately you not liking something doesnt make it crap, in the same way that you liking it doesnt make it good

if this is the music is subjective bollocks again i can tell you its not its fairly easy to spot music that is trash in the same way its easy to spot films/ tv shows that are trash, steps were clearly trash, taylor swift while i admire her ability to write songs is one of the least interesting and innovative artists out there as she churns out generic country on every album

Being innovative doesn't mean your songs are good. Have you even listened to Taylor Swifts latest album? If not then you cant really comment on every album of hers. I sometimes get annoyed at people releasing generic crappy pop dance etc songs for the sake of a hit but you kind of have to respect other peoples taste.

Not if you dont like the songs -__- For example Cher Lloyds album is amazing and innovative, but that doesnt mean everyone will appreciate it.
