Very low-calorie snacks
Any ideas for relatively low-calorie filling snacks?
I've just made some vegetable soup. This had carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, parsnip, potato, corgette, two stock cubes (for two portions), tomato paste, garlic, herbs and spices. I find this filling and ' a meal'. I didn't eat bread or anything else with it. Occasionally I will make a vegetable stew with similar ingredients but less stock and processed differently. I like gherkins, and do eat crackers with gherkins and sliced tomatoes on them. Any other suggestions? |

Raw onion? Hmmm ... not for me. But i like steamed miniature onions, and perhaps a selection of steamed vegetables would be another relatively low calorie meal. Melon is low calorie, but I just don't like melons. Apples seem to be reasonably low calorie, e.g. they have half the calories of bananas and about a sixth of the calories of a similarly sized mars bar. |

Popcorn from a machine ( quite cheap in Argos).
Tesco's flavoured rice cakes - salt n vinegar ones are the lowest fat, some pretzels are ok, they vary so I read the labels. Pickles are wonderful as you know. Tesco's own light options have some biscuits ( like garibaldis) they're good, plus their version of Philadelphia is the lowest fat I've seen.

Hummus or guacamole with veg crudités make a healthy and filling snack. Both dips are relatively high in calories, but you'll feel full far sooner, so won't eat as much.

ryvita or crackerbread with philadelphia, onions, and peppers
quavers, french fries, skips, snack a jacks ... i like my crisps, wraps with chicken and lots of salad

I do want to try some ryvita. I'm not sure when I last ate some. Something lower calorie which is functionally similar to hummous would be good. Or perhaps very thinly spread hummous.

Thanks s-u-l and everyone.
I've got an unopened jar of olives that could be used for tapenade. And I'm thinking that thinly spread mustard may be a good way to ring the changes too. Thinking further, I think I've only eaten sauerkraut once, but I liked it. |

They do packs of melba toast in Morrisons and they are something like 12 calories a slice. They are actually quite nice.
