Peter Kay new sitcom - Car Share.

Debuting on iPlayer but will be on one of the BBc channels once all the series has aired.

Kay plays a supermarket worker forced to spend his commute with a colleague as part of a company car-share scheme.

The star has also directed the six half-hour episodes.

I shouldn't judge the programme before I've watched it but the title alone makes it sound dire!

This is really good for bbc comedy so pleased they have been getting the best comedians to write for them. Hopefully another big hit and really what the bbc should be investing the money in quality writing. Danny cohen has proved to be a good controller of bbc one and I like his fresh approach to comedy and drama. I would rather see them invest time and money into british writers and comedians even if some comedies do work better than others. Peter kay should be able to pull something out the bag

I think it will be very successful but am unsure whether it is risky to launch a new series on iPlayer which most people use only for catch up.

Mmm yeah think it would have been better left on the main channel to launch really. Hope they begin to ask more comedians and writers for their work after ben elton brendan o carroll and now peter kay have created new sitcoms for the screen at last. Sky has been nicking all the big names recently!

Great news. Who did they get to write for this?
Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice?

Ah I thought kay had written this himself but its been penned by newcomers. It also stars an unknown as his co star but hopefully will be funny!

The article make no sense, it says he has just signed up for the role yet later on it informs us he has directed all six episodes, YTS journo in action I bet.

I'll give it a go though.

I don't think that they have started to film it yet.

All the publicity will make out that Kay wrote it and he won't do anything to disavow people of this mistake

I think he said on an interview with Radio 2 some time ago that he hadn't written it but the concept was one that didn't make it to That Peter Kay Thing (which was fairly hit and miss)

I read about this in another thread. It seems strange that they're promoting and supporting new comedy and drama and not putting it on BBC2 or BBC3 for people to watch first.

By all means have it available on iPlayer but people usually want to watch the TV.

it is very odd. Sort of like announcing a new film release but saying it will be in the cinema only after it has been on DVD for 3 months.

He's alright as a stand-up comic....a few times, though he "can 'alf drag out a predictable joke." But I wouldn't bother with him in a comedy, certainly not with this scenario.

Not watched Phoenix Nights or That Peter Kay Thing? Doesn't sound like you have.

As someone who drives in 2 work colleagues I might find a few things / annoyances I can relate to, in fact, if you need any material Pete...?

I hate when sites like digital spy and other news sites post information about new tv series or when tv stations advertise new programs sand say Coming Soon or it will be on later this year.

Why not give us an exact date jeez. That does my head in.!!!!

Peter was very funny and fresh with Phoenix Nights and early stand up. But hes spread himself thinly dragging out all the arena shows with samey material too much and over doing it on chat shows etc. I hope Im wrong, but I think his break with Dave Spikey, a major collaborator script-wise, didnt do him any favours. As I say I hope Im wrong...we could all do with a bloody laugh.

You've given me two reasons why I wouldn't watch another.
It's all down to what individuals like in comedies.

Aye, but Mrs Brown's Boys deserves it.

I'll give this a go once it's on proper telly. My piddle-poor broadband connection renders i-player unwatchable.

While I'm here....why is Peter Kay so unpopular on the internet? Is he a git? Is he a talentless plageriser? Or is it because he's gone all mainstream and got so popular the tide inevitably turned against him?

For me it was because of him trotting out the same DVD about four times in a row. Lazy comedy.

Tbf thought apparently his last tour was all new material so if that's the case I will give him some slack.
