Cex experience?
I've off to Cex on the high st but just wondered how it all works? I've never been to one before. I'm off to sell 2 iphones!
Whats the process, and whats the best way to get paid, does it even matter? |

You need to take some proof of ID, such as bank statement, drivers license etc, to set up your details with them.
They'll give you a CEX card or keyring fob card, to help with future deals, so you don't need to go through the above process with them. Sometimes they'll ask for proof of purchase on some items, particularly phones. They will test the phones, to make sure they work fine, and if they are unlocked etc, not reported lost/stolen. They will grade the phones from grade A to C, A being the best, you'll get more money for grade A, than you will for grade B or C. They either give you cash, or in store credit which is higher than the cash. I've dealt with them a lot, and they've always been great, the only downside is their prices are slightly lower than you'd get on ebay. Edit: Here's what the require, from their website http://uk.webuy.com/help/storehelp.p...p_requirements |

Beware.
I have returned 2 mobiles recently that had supposedly been tested by their resident expert, on both occasions I was treated like a fraudster for returning them, lots of huddling and pointing at my by staff etc. IMEI numbers don't lie ... Thankfully. I won't be returning |

About 3 years ago they refused to accept my Sony Ericsson V630i because it had too much cosmetic damage but it has no damage whatsoever. |

I sold my iPhone to CEX and although I had no issues they tried to tell me my phone was O2 locked when I knew it wasn't.
This want long ago and it wasnt in great condition but still got over 100 quid for it. |

I've changed my mind about CEX, considering they dont pay that well anyway. I've decided to use http://www.o2recycle.co.uk instead, but i'll walk into an O2 shop and do it in person.
Thanks for the advice. |

Have used O2Recycle before - they're quick to send out the envelope, and they pay into your back account directly within a few days. If you time it right you can request a bag, send it back and get money in your bank within a week!

Ive used 02recycle and Royal Mails Simply Drop as well as the usual suspects like Mazuma.
I dont like the idea of selling phones (or high value) on Ebay.... way to many scams and Paypal/ebay always seem to side with the buyer if they say the item was not delivered or not as described |

I usually use mazuma. I've had a situation where I've requested the bag on say a Monday, recieved it on the Tuesday, sent the phone to them on the Tuesday and they have recieved it on the Wednesday and the money has gone into my account on the Wednesday.

You'll likely get more money from the Mazuma type places. There are also price comparison sites for mobile phone recycling. Cex I think tell you on the website how much you'll get, I believe it's half of what they sell them for.
If you don't actually need a pawn broker I'd go elsewhere. |

With Cex you need to see if they even have money in the till to buy your stuff. I tried to sell a Samsung galazy s2 to them but they refused saying they just had to many samsung galaxy phones.
But they will snap your hand off for an iPhone though, the market for 2nd hand iPhones is hugeeeeeeeee |

So they were saying the S3 had lost over 50% of its value in 7 months? |

Mazuma are ok ish for iPhone prices, but I priced up a galaxy s3 with them and it was only worth the same as a iphone 4s that was a year older. Yet the S3 cost £529 sim free at launch and the iPhone was £499.
So they were saying the S3 had lost over 50% of its value in 7 months? |

My CEX is effectively a no questions asked fence. I have sold Xbox, PS3 and dozens of DVDs with no proof of purchase needed. They just check the goods and hand over the cash.
Its under the market rate but who cares when you get instant money. |

I was very surprised when they point blank refused to take a S2 though. My local has poster offering 15% extra on advertised prices for iPhones. |

Cex make money through the loans. If you actually want to sell it they are less interested. They want you to sell something you desperately need then buy it back when you get your giro.

Yep, that's why I said earlier in the post about making sure they had cash in the till. Search the net there is lots of cases were Cex had no cash in the till.

I took my N4 in today for a laugh while i was looking for a new camcorder. They graded it a B despite the fact it has not a single mark on it. I spoke to the manager who then upgraded it to an A after i hit the roof like another poster. Thing is, they couldn't buy it anyway as they again had zero cash. I wasn't looking to sell it, i was just curious as they are offering £330 for the N4! |

Yeah, i'm not sure why they do that to be honest.

The iPhone 5 is down to £305 for a 16gb it was £450 1 month ago. They like to get so e stock of all new phones and once they have a few the crash the price. |
